  1. The way I look at these things is if there is doubt about the provenance of a vintage instrument, it`s better to walk away. Especially if the seller is reluctant to do what most folk would consider reasonable (taking the neck off, showing the pot dates etc) to obtain a sale. There is always another vintage Fender round the corner.
  2. The Johnny Cash version of "I`ve been everywhere" is a pretty wordy song. Get him to sing that!
  3. Spot on. Thankfully I don`t make my living from the entertainment industry but hopefully this will provide some help to those who depend on it to live.
  4. The body on the newer ones is smaller than the old BB`s and usually a bit lighter. They are cracking basses and not just for the money, just good basses.
  5. But Dave that`s allowed as the Dead have the coolest looking stickers..... in the world! I have white Jazz bass GAS at the moment and that picture you posted is not helping.
  6. Over the last 13 weeks of furlough I have spent far too much on gear, basses and effect pedals. I have had some right decent kit and moved it on fast losing some cash in the process. I`m beginning to think that all the wheeling and dealing is the only thing that has kept me on the right side of sanity as I have never had as much time off before. But I reckon I`m done bass wise. Now amps, that`s a different kettle of haddock.....
  7. That cab looks interesting.
  8. Bas bought a Zoom pedal from me. Good comms, quick payment and easy peasy all round!
  9. His original black strat belonged to Paul Kossof and he bought it, stuck in some humbuckers and played the crap out of it but it has been retired for a few years now.
  10. Snowy White played his Gold top Les Paul on nearly everything he did for 40 odd years until he sold it in late 2014.
  11. I sold a bass amp to a guy from Cumbernauld (what`s it called?) who played in a Free tribute band, I think they were called Tons of slobs but maybe I made that bit up! He played a five string fretless Stingray. Andy Frazer and his Gibson must be turning in his grave
  12. The point regarding the case takes me back say 10 years or so. When you bought a Mexican Standard you got a gig bag with it, it might not have been the best gig bag but all the same for £350 all in you still had something to carry it home in. Fast forward to today, you pay £650 and get sod all bag. If they stopped offering a case with the US models, it wouldn`t be long before you were paying the same price if not more with sod all case. And we would be sitting here saying "remember the days when you used to get a case with a US P bass."
  13. They are from a 1100s but I`m pretty sure they came fitted to other models. You can still buy this style today for £20 each.
  14. A set of Yamaha tuners from a 90`s made in Tiawan BB bass. They work fine but have some signs of 20 + years use. Comes with bushes and screws. £30 posted to mainland UK (they are quite heavy) or if you can collect I will knock off the postage cost. Bank transfer or paypal friends and family.
  15. Here we have a 2019 Squier Affinity P/J in torino red. I picked this up just before the lock down started. The previous owner was a bit of a brand snob and he put on a Fender logo, it looks ok but you can tell it`s a transfer. Personally I would have left on the Squier logo. I have fitted a hi mass bridge, put in a Mexican P bass pickup, stuck in one of Kiogon`s excellent wiring looms and I have dressed the fret edges so everything is nice and smooth. The bass plays really nice and especially the P pickup on it`s own. The bass weighs 4.3 kg or 9.5 lb`s. it is in great condition and the only things worthy of note is there are 2 very small paint cracks on the front of the bass. One is from the pickgaurd screw between the A and D string to the edge of the Jazz pickup and the other is from the pickgaurd screw below this and it runs for 20 mm. These are very minor and I can`t even get a photo of them but the last 2 pictures are of the area they are in. You can only spot them if you tilt the bass into the light.
  16. Just bought this recently for home practice plugged into my headphones but am going to buy a small practice amp with headphone and mp3 input so this won`t be needed. It`s a cracking piece of kit but wasted on me. It`s only about 6 weeks old and is in as new condition with the original box and paperwork. The cheapest I can see is Thomman at £68 posted so £45 posted seems fair. 17. The best "cheap" P bass pickup for me is a Tonerider. They are British but make the pickups in China, supposedly they were the pickups used in the original Classic vibe basses? Anyway, I have them in a NMendel P bass with one of John`s wiring kit and it sounds great. £35 delivered.
  18. The mains power is a bit of a pain and if you buy one from Thomman it comes with a Euro plug and an adapter for UK use. It works fine though. It`s not a problem for me as I use a 9V mains lead, one for my Zoom pedal and one for the Art. I just run a 3 way gang socket with a long lead and just try and tuck it out of the way.
  19. I have an Art Mic Preamp that I stick at the end before going into a RCF 715 powered speaker. It has a valve in it but how much difference that makes I`m not sure. It`s one of these. https://www.thomann.de/gb/art_tube_mp.htm
  20. Just sold another Tribute to Keir. I`m starting to make a habit of this! Top bloke and great guy to deal with!
  21. To be fair I think that clip is from Live at Abbey rd from 7 or 8 years ago. The live stuff from The book of souls tour from 2016 ish was superb.
  22. I bought a set of his sig strings a few years back. Not only did the E string break at the tuning peg when I removed them to oil the board but they are by far and above the most expensive crap strings I have ever bought.
  23. The HB is showing available in 2 - 5 days. I was going to get one a while back and it vanished. Whats your opinion on the HB Cetera?
