  1. There is a Gotoh version of the BBOT that is a direct replacement. There is one about £30 ish, the 203B-4 and the TI 203B-4 that is the same style but has titanium saddles. A very nice bit of kit that keeps the same sort of look. JJ Burnel has one of these models on his sig bass.
  2. Hey Muzz. Sorry to burst your 5 count jazz theory but Whole lotta Rosie starts with a 5 count. Of course, we could be playing it wrong.... Got a similar one. Auditioned a guitarist a few years ago for your standard pub rock combo. Guy seemed nice enough, nice Strat, Vox amp but he had a army type kit bag with him. He opened the bag by turning it upside down and out fell about 20 pedals plus assorted cables and batteries. My Spidey sense was tingaling now. He proceeded to arrange them on the floor, moving them until they were in some exact position which took about 15 mins, then started to connect them and change batteries when he discovered some were gubbed. By now, the band are giving each other the WTF look. After what seemed like an age, he seemed ready but the sounds he was getting were unsuitable for the songs we were playing and after 20 mins or so, we knocked it on the head with the standard "we will be in touch."
  3. This is a common problem with many cover bands. Members seem to forget that it`s the entertainment game. I have left bands in the early rehearsal stages when members start wanting to play songs that very few people will have heard of. Playing popular songs that most people know is a pub covers band lifeblood. To the op. Your drummer would do my head in. I would either be looking to change him or would walk myself. Sounds like a right negative character, just what you don`t need in a band.
  4. The bass is now Sold. I thought I would keep a hold of this but needs must. I bought this last year from the last batch of these to come to the UK. Almost as new condition, just 2 very small, faint dings near the top horn. You might not even notice them but I like to be honest about things. There is lots of love for these basses on here and if you need a good quality P/J bass, look no further. No trades thanks. The strap locks will be swapped back prior to sale, it will come in a new Fender gig bag. It has a brand new set of D`addario NYXL strings and is strung through the body. The weight of the bass is 4.8 kg or 10.7 lb . At the moment the bass is collection only from Paisley which is just outside Glasgow or I don`t mind driving a bit for a meet up. 5. A sig JJ Burnel Shuker bass. The nicest non Fender P bass imo.
  6. I would be very sceptical of the 1000w rating, especially going through one 15 inch speaker. The Bugera head has some writes up in the Amp section of the site.
  7. I have went from combo to head and cab and have now went back to a combo, a Fender Rumble 500. It`s light and is loud enough for any pub gigs that come along and I could always chuck an extension cab under it for good measure.
  8. Can`t play guitar at all. I did try a couple of times but I reckon that there are 1 bass player to every 10 guitarists so I will always find some suckers who need me. I also have a dodgy pinky finger (ooeeerrr) that snapped in two 20 years ago and have very little strength in my left hand so making chord shapes aint gonna happen. Due to the injury, I mostly use just my first two fingers on my fretting hand.
  9. Yep the Wilkinson one for £20 is decent. Had one in a Sterling Sub, wired passive with tone and a series/parallel switch and it was dinky doo.
  10. Thanks for taking the time to reply guys. Mojoke: the LD set up you mentioned is the one she is going to get so no letting you down! She is going to get a set of Shure buds to go with it. Lets hope she is happy with it.
  11. Thanks for the replies . I believe that she is looking to spend around the £400 mark. I will mention the limiter function.
  12. Our singer has decided to get a wireless in ear monitor set up. This year we are mainly doing gigs with other bands, sort of min festival set ups. I know most of the stages will have decent wedge monitors (hopefully) so is there any problem with her using in ears at these gigs? Can she plug her set up into the desk? She doesn`t want to rely on the floor wedges. Excuse my ignorance in these matters, we have always used our own pa in the past.
  13. I have a set of Chromes that were on my Sr, now sold. If you want them, drop me a pm with your address and I will get them off to you next week sometime. Going to the studio tonight so won`t be back on till much later.
  14. I play in a loud rock band, cranked Marshall valve amps and the scary bit to me is you are running your LH500 at full pelt to be heard. I had one of these going through a 2 x 10 cab and never had the volume above 11 o`clock. We use backline and only the vocals and the kick drum goes through the pa. If you stay with this buffoon, you are going to damage your hearing and once it goes, it ain`t coming back. I have never heard of this kind of set up. Is it worth it, staying in this band and risking your hearing?
  15. Plus one on the Rumble 500. I was going to buy a nice cab to use with my LH500 but I played through a Rumble and had to buy it. Super light, powerful and a great sound. I was never impressed with class D amps before but for me, it`s been a revelation. Even the guitarist noticed how good it looked and sounded. It could replace your heavier amps as well and be a one combo solution.
  16. Conan. Is that one of the short scale mini Jazz`s or are you just a very tall chap!
  17. Ta for the replies. I think I`m going to order a J&D. But they don`t have the white one that I really like the look of until the 22nd of April Must resist!!
  18. That`s a bit more than I`m looking to spend Grangur but thank you very much for your kind offer re the postage and packaging.
  19. I`m looking to buy a cheap Jazz bass, just for playing in the house. The 3 candidates are: Harley Benton Jazz, J&D 75 Jazz and the Aria STB Jazz. I had a HB P bass and it was decent, the J&D gets a bit of love and I like the colour options but both of these brands have stories regarding rough frets and quality issues which makes me think they are one of those "lucky dip" basses. I know, at the price point, you can have some with issues. I can`t find much info on the Aria and I realise that they aren`t the Aria of old but I can play one in GG in Glasgow and see what it`s like. Fire away....
  20. The VM Jazz is a decent bass. I had a 77 one with the maple neck with white blocks, tasty! The neck is the opposite to the L2000 which is 44mm and well "chunky" whereas the Jazz is 38mm and slim.
  21. The crackle is usually caused by a dirty pot. Can be an easy fix or it may need replaced which might cost more than the amp is worth if you get a shop to repair. I owned one of these in the past but I wouldn`t buy one again. What is a good price? I sold mine for about £25 a couple of years ago. What kind of budget do you have? I think the Fender Rumble amps are a good bit better than the Marshall if you can stretch to one of them.
  22. Depending on your location, I`m sure someone local to you on here would be happy to help you out re a basic set up if you are unsure of doing this yourself.
  23. Gibson and Fender will survive in some form. The brand names will be worth money to somebody. As for the future of bass, I just bought a Fender Mexican 50`s P bass and it is perfect and looks stunning imo. Would I pay almost double the money for a bog standard US P bass? Not a chance. I have owned US models before but this Mexican is as good as them. Will the US just be a custom shop manufacturer, selling only top of the line models?
  24. As stated by Essential T, Bob Daisley does indeed own Ronnie`s old bass. Bob had 2 Zemaitis basses and Geddy Lee wanted to buy them from him. He kept the one above and sold Ged his other one. They were a great band.
