1. I had a black VM and it was a really nice bass but it was £240 new and that was only a couple of years ago! Never played an Affinity but the old adage runs true. Get into a shop that stocks both and try them. Squiers can vary so much that I think you have to play them and decide for yourself. Bit of a bugger if you are in the middle of nowhere but the likes of Andertons, Thomman etc give you 30 days to return it if you don`t like it. The Jag is supposed to be a good bit of kit but see above.
2. That looks like a steal! Well done that man.
3. Strung out guitars in Glasgow have one of these for £229!! It looks in good nick and has had a set up but it`s a bit pricey? Still it "has a cool relic look."
4. I have a black scratchplate that the Bass Doc made for my Pawn Shop Mustang. It is an exact fit for this bass. Being black, it has some swirly marks on it but as with all black plates, you can only see them when the light hits them. Like when you are photographing it There is a very small mark on the bottom of the plate, between the 2 screw holes. Price is £23 delivered. Paypal by gift is fine. 5. For me, a bass has to look good. The bridge looks like something from a cheap knock off bass and those control knobs, I would not be able to live with them. Not very keen on the look of the headstock either. Lots of good tones available and the neck is a great shape for me but I just don`t like the look of the bass, so back it must go.
6. Well the bass turned up this morning, ordered 1pm on Monday, delivered 10am this morning. Great service. But this bass isn`t for me, I just don`t like it. It looked really nice in the pictures but in the flesh, it just ain`t for me. The bass has a small mark on the bottom edge close to the jack which I have told them about so I will see how it pans out. Feeling a bit deflated as I was really looking forward to getting this and gigging it on Saturday night
7.
Excellent work! Let us know how you get on with it. A Sire may be on the horizon for me at some point too...
I have never though of buying one before as I don`t like the look of the control knobs or the original bridge but the if the bass looks as good as it does in the pictures, I can live with the knobs or maybe I will change them. It`s been shipped and I am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.
8. Being on holiday and being bored is a bad thing.... I`ve been looking for a Jazz for a few weeks now and was looking on the Thomman site, as you do. Spotted a rather nice V7 Vintage in black and maple. Now, I wasn`t keen on the MM before as I din`t like the big chunky bridge design but this model has a meatier version of the BBOT design. 2 mins later it`s bought and hopefully mine before the end of the week. Now I just need to thin the heard down a bit to pay for it!
9. Oasis were a great band. Good songs, attitude and they knew how to be rock stars. I`m still a Noel fan and think that the NGHFB material is as good as any Oasis stuff. Even better now that Gem and Chris are back in his solo band. Sadly Liam hasn`t got the songs and if you ain`t got good songs, you ain`t got much.
10. I played the Beat Generator in Dundee last Saturday and the rig was an oldish Peavey head and a 15 inch cab. I left the settings of the previous guy and it was distorting a bit on stage but the di sound out front was pretty good according to the punters. I prefer to bring my own backline but if the sound guy has got his set up right, I will just go with it.
11. Ta for all the replies. Having read a few horror stories of people having had their laptops stolen at gigs, the midi controller idea is out. Myself and guitar boy are gonna hit the shops this weekend and get some ideas.
12.
When I set presets I mean sound wise, piano, organ types, synth types etc.
Cool man, I`m with you now.
13.
You're also going to need low latency ASIO audio interface otherwise you'll have around half a second delay between the keys on the keyboard being pressed and the note being played.
Cool. All good information
14. What sort of gear would I use to trigger the pre sets?
15. More than likely someone will be playing them and the computer is a Acer pc with 4gb memory and an Intel i5 processor.
16. I will be starting a new covers project soon and we need some synth/piano/keyboards sounds. Just basic stuff like the keyboard parts in the Killers songs etc. We`re not looking to be Gary Numan! None of us are piano players but some have dabbled. I went looking today for something that would do piano and synth sounds at a reasonable budget and there ain`t too big a selection. We can either get a keyboard that does all the usual piano, organ and a bit of synth or a Roland JD XI which does piano and synth tones and is a great piece of kit. And it has the bonus of being quite small, the size of a large pedalboard which is half the size of a keyboard. Before I splash £420 on one of these, could I get away with using a MIDI keyboard controller plugged into my laptop for live use? Does anyone use this set up? If so, what are the pros and cons. Thanks
17. Fender recently did a Gary Moore strat, it was around £13000 and they were all pre sold so somebody must love these creations. Good on you if you have the cash.
18. The hot output has been discussed on here and that Talkbass, with various solutions. Have a search and you shall find Nothing better than buying a bass for not a lot of cash and loving it.
19. Why didn`t they build it slightly larger and make it 500ish watts like most of these small class D amps seem to be? I certainly wouldn`t spend my hard earned on a 200 watt class D amp, made by Trace or anyone else.
20. I thought Morning glory was quite good but his own songs were dreadful.
21.
Or if you don't mind a slight deviation from the Fender norm - a Yamaha BB424.
This man speaks the truth. Got one s/h off here and I prefer it to my Nate Mendel P and highish end Ibanez.
22. Joe Bonamasa is the man for 59 Les Paul`s, he has owned 13 of them. I think he still owns 3 and gigs them.
23. Nice. I think the plaques are a nice way of paying respect to a person or place that meant something in music.
24. Dan. The E bay link looks like a genuine Tokia, one of the newer models that are made in China.
25. The Tokia copies that I have seen with the Fender shaped head stock have had the truss rod adjustment at the body end as per 60`s and early 70`s Fenders. The newer Tokia`s have a different style head stock design so as not to infringe Fender`s copyright. To be honest, I can`t see this being a early 80`s Tokia copy as they are highly regarded Japanese made instruments and were thought to be as good as, if not better, than what Fender was making at the time. Why someone would put a Fender badge on one of them? What you more than likely have is a bitsa and one you seem to be happy with which is all good.
