1. I could be wrong but aren`t these things boat anchor heavy?
2. The Zoom B1on is a great bit of kit. Tuner, drum machine, lots of good effects and not a lot of cash: whats not to like? And later on, stick it in the front end of your amp. Fabby doo!!
3. The 250 runs at 4 ohms to the internal speaker so no additional speaker option. I owned one a while back and it went up in smoke (as did a few others) but that was an early one and they must have solved the issue. It was a decent amp with some useful features. Second hand, I would go for the Ashdown as they provide power at a decent price especially second hand. Or how about an old Trace combo? Loud but lots of people don`t like the weight so they can be found for a decent price second hand.
4.
Cheers for all the comments and opinions. As luck would have it an ABM version has popped up as well. One thing that puts me off a 1x15 is the fact that if I put an extension cab into the mix (say a 2 x 10) it just looks (and possibly sounds?) odd. I've never had the luxury of a two-cab setup, but I always think it should be small speakers above big speaker. Unless anyone else has different experience?
Trust me on this. If you are doing pub gigs, an ABM 1x15 will be more than ample for any gig. I gigged a 1x15 MAG 300 for years and it never went above half way.
5.
I've been using Alpine Music Safe Pro for many years now and I couldn't be more happy with them. Note that their price is much more reasonable (for such a simple item) than ones recommend above.
I use these ones myself. I bought 2 packs so I could have one set with the silver and one set with the gold plugs. Do the job fine.
6. I had a similar issue with a guitarist. Great player, decent guy but no mobile phone and getting hold of him was murder. In the end I gave him one of my older ones and told him to get a Tesco sim card for it. Fast forward 2 months and he still hadn`t got a sim card for it. Which was very annoying as his wife worked in....Tesco!! You just cant win with some people.
7. I recently played a club in Dundee and as we were headlining, we finished at 12.15 am. It took me 1.5 hours to get home to Paisley, just outside Glasgow in my car, sharing with the rhythm guitarist who chipped in for the cost of the fuel but using public transport? I wouldn`t even know where to start and it would have cost me more in travel costs than I got for the gig I imagine. In my view, to be a gigging musician, you need access to transport.
8. Bridge of sighs is superb. The singer / bass player on most of his early stuff is Jimmy Dewar. My wife worked in a local hospital in Paisley where Jimmy sadly ended his days. He was still a character but apparently had a strong dislike for Lulu who he played with in the 60`s!
9. The LH500 is a good amp. I got mine for £200 new and have gigged it a few times and I prefer the simple eq to the Trace it replaced. It`s not that heavy at 11kg and fits in a 2u Gator bag. Of course if you are used to small class d amps, it will seem large and heavy but I like it and it does what it says on the tin so to speak.
10. According to an interview on Ultimate Guitar, it`s all a lot of tosh. The interviewer asked Alex and he said that they were both working on their own projects and had no plan to do anything together at the moment.
11. I haven`t touched the set up on mine since I bought it. I have kept the stock strings on it as well which is unusual for me. Glad you are liking it.
12. I got the same deal and I love it. Did you get the very nice gig bag with it as well?
13. Yep really liking that.
14. Im not trying to cast aspersions on the op but he hasn`t returned to this topic and went offline just over an hour after posting. Meanwhile in the best tradition of BC, we have been giving out good advice. Was it something we said?
15. Hi anzoid. I have a SR750 and they are indeed licensed Nordstrand pickups but it is a cracking piece of kit. The eq is really good on these especially with the active passive option. The only thing I would say about it is that due to the natural wood finish, the body is very easily dinged. Or mojoed if you like!
16. The 1024 feels a bit heavier. It weighs in at 9lb on the dot.
17. The twat that ran the band I have just left did something similar. Asked us about a gig and when the drummer and rhythm guitarist couldn`t make it, got in his brother and another drummer, a fact that he forgot to tell me about until I pitched up at a rehearsal. I did the gig and the deps did a decent enough job but that was the final nail in the coffin for that version of the band. A few weeks later myself, drummer and rhythm guitarist walked and it feels real good. So take your good lady out and have a wonderful evening.
18. I got a 1024 from Guitarguitar for £500. Fantastic guitar. According to Paul in the bass dept, they bought the last of the available Yamaha stock. The 1024 is a good bit better than a 424x having owned both. Can`t comment on the 5 string models but they seem to be really good.
19. I bought a LH500 recently as part of PMT`s blow out for £200. I have played a few gigs with it through a Ashdown ABM 2x10 cab and am well pleased with it. Nice and simple eq and dead easy to get a good sound out of quickly. Easily loud enough for any pub gig.
20. When CH returned from their hiatus, I seem to remember him playing a Geddy Jazz quite a bit.
21.
A short scale Harley Benton P bass is available in combination with a starter amp: https://www.thomann....od_rel_172084_0 Can recommend the bass as I've got one.
I bought one of these a few weeks ago as a B stock, delivered for £70. I can`t find any reason why it is a B stock, no signs of use. But it is a great piece of kit. The tuners and bridge aren`t the best quality (I swapped out the bridge for one I had kicking about) but the tuners do the job. I stuck on a set of D`Addario short scale strings which cost £21 and the bass is now great fun to play. The body is like a 3/4 size P bass.
22. There was a story recently in one of the guitar mags about a guy in the UK that gigs a 59 Les Paul. He said that most people think it`s a reissue rather than a £200k ish guitar.
23. I put a Tonerider pickup in my Nate Mendel P to replace the SD that was in there. To my ears, it sounded a lot better and it wasn`t expensive if I remember right. Oh and I fitted a Kiogon loom at the same time so I don`t know if it was the pickup or John`s voodoo working that made it sound better
24. Something similar. Been getting fed up with the band Im in, so speaking to a drummer mate and suggest we get something together with a singer from his old band. Great idea says he, we can start up the old band. That was 9 weeks ago and after meeting up, phone calls and texts, what has happened? Nowt. These are experienced players who I have know for years not some bedroom players. No wonder people give up on the playing live thing.
25. I had one of the USA AH600 heads. I moved it on as I was always messing around with the graphic, pre shape etc trying to get a sound I was happy with. Went and got an Hartke LH500 and am much happier.
