1. Paul (glasses and small beard) is a nice guy and will try and get you to try everything out. It has worked out really well for them giving the bass their own space.
2. Just bought some tuners from Tobie. A very smooth deal and good communication. Would buy from him again. Ta Gerry
3. Just watched the Stereophonics at Kendal Calling and Richard Jones is playing a new BB. It looks like a passive one, a high end model I would guess.

DI Box

Behringher BDi21. Cheap as chips, £28 ish, does the job. So cheap I bought 2.
5. In the last 3 weeks I sold 2 basses and 1 amp on Gumtree. The only reason for selling on there was it was to local people who can come to my place and try the gear out, make sure they are happy with it and pay cash. Saves me any hassle with couriers and any associated problems. Having said that, there is some "interesting" characters on Gumtree.
6. Got a question for you Faker experts. My neighbour who plays guitar, has shown me a copy that he got as part of a deal. At first I thought it was a diy build but the body shape, binding, fret markers and the neck in general makes me think its factory made. The neck is a 3 piece job with a scarf joint. According to the other owner, the head stock was a squarish shape but he had it modified to look like the real thing. It looks like a medium scale as well. The bass is very light and made of maple I think. But it has a Jazz pickup in the bridge position that looks original and a poor copy of the real thing in the neck. It has one of those cheap MM style bridges that I think was put on by someone and isn`t original to the bass but the scratch plate and controls are all in the correct place and look like the real thing. He says it plays well but knows no more about it. There are no serial numbers or names on it bar a dodgy R truss rod cover. Any ideas?
7. Very nice. The higher end Sr`s are really good basses.
8.
Well you should shop around as the 1024 is discontinued and heavily discounted in lots of places - £499 here! https://www.guitargu...-brown-sunburst That's not too far off last year's typical used price. This means it's a great time to buy one as you won't lose so much if/when you sell!
And I have just bought one of these babies and it`s a step above the 424x it has replaced. It is just a great playing bass and the gig bag is plush.
9. A very small market for this bit of gear type bump!
10. A bit different from the above selections but in the 200-300 range, I would go for an Ibanez SR300 with the powerspan pickups. Great build quality, a good selection of tones are available and the neck is nice and narrow like a Jazz. Check them out.
11. Hi Blue. The VM is made in Indonesia more than likely by Cort.
12. I had a black VM and it was a really nice bass but it was £240 new and that was only a couple of years ago! Never played an Affinity but the old adage runs true. Get into a shop that stocks both and try them. Squiers can vary so much that I think you have to play them and decide for yourself. Bit of a bugger if you are in the middle of nowhere but the likes of Andertons, Thomman etc give you 30 days to return it if you don`t like it. The Jag is supposed to be a good bit of kit but see above.
13. That looks like a steal! Well done that man.
14. Strung out guitars in Glasgow have one of these for £229!! It looks in good nick and has had a set up but it`s a bit pricey? Still it "has a cool relic look."
15. I have a black scratchplate that the Bass Doc made for my Pawn Shop Mustang. It is an exact fit for this bass. Being black, it has some swirly marks on it but as with all black plates, you can only see them when the light hits them. Like when you are photographing it There is a very small mark on the bottom of the plate, between the 2 screw holes. Price is £23 delivered. Paypal by gift is fine. 16. For me, a bass has to look good. The bridge looks like something from a cheap knock off bass and those control knobs, I would not be able to live with them. Not very keen on the look of the headstock either. Lots of good tones available and the neck is a great shape for me but I just don`t like the look of the bass, so back it must go.
17. Well the bass turned up this morning, ordered 1pm on Monday, delivered 10am this morning. Great service. But this bass isn`t for me, I just don`t like it. It looked really nice in the pictures but in the flesh, it just ain`t for me. The bass has a small mark on the bottom edge close to the jack which I have told them about so I will see how it pans out. Feeling a bit deflated as I was really looking forward to getting this and gigging it on Saturday night
18.
Excellent work! Let us know how you get on with it. A Sire may be on the horizon for me at some point too...
I have never though of buying one before as I don`t like the look of the control knobs or the original bridge but the if the bass looks as good as it does in the pictures, I can live with the knobs or maybe I will change them. It`s been shipped and I am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.
19. Being on holiday and being bored is a bad thing.... I`ve been looking for a Jazz for a few weeks now and was looking on the Thomman site, as you do. Spotted a rather nice V7 Vintage in black and maple. Now, I wasn`t keen on the MM before as I din`t like the big chunky bridge design but this model has a meatier version of the BBOT design. 2 mins later it`s bought and hopefully mine before the end of the week. Now I just need to thin the heard down a bit to pay for it!
20. Oasis were a great band. Good songs, attitude and they knew how to be rock stars. I`m still a Noel fan and think that the NGHFB material is as good as any Oasis stuff. Even better now that Gem and Chris are back in his solo band. Sadly Liam hasn`t got the songs and if you ain`t got good songs, you ain`t got much.
21. I played the Beat Generator in Dundee last Saturday and the rig was an oldish Peavey head and a 15 inch cab. I left the settings of the previous guy and it was distorting a bit on stage but the di sound out front was pretty good according to the punters. I prefer to bring my own backline but if the sound guy has got his set up right, I will just go with it.
22. Ta for all the replies. Having read a few horror stories of people having had their laptops stolen at gigs, the midi controller idea is out. Myself and guitar boy are gonna hit the shops this weekend and get some ideas.
23.
When I set presets I mean sound wise, piano, organ types, synth types etc.
Cool man, I`m with you now.
24.
You're also going to need low latency ASIO audio interface otherwise you'll have around half a second delay between the keys on the keyboard being pressed and the note being played.
Cool. All good information
