1. Being on holiday and being bored is a bad thing.... I`ve been looking for a Jazz for a few weeks now and was looking on the Thomman site, as you do. Spotted a rather nice V7 Vintage in black and maple. Now, I wasn`t keen on the MM before as I din`t like the big chunky bridge design but this model has a meatier version of the BBOT design. 2 mins later it`s bought and hopefully mine before the end of the week. Now I just need to thin the heard down a bit to pay for it!
2. Oasis were a great band. Good songs, attitude and they knew how to be rock stars. I`m still a Noel fan and think that the NGHFB material is as good as any Oasis stuff. Even better now that Gem and Chris are back in his solo band. Sadly Liam hasn`t got the songs and if you ain`t got good songs, you ain`t got much.
3. I played the Beat Generator in Dundee last Saturday and the rig was an oldish Peavey head and a 15 inch cab. I left the settings of the previous guy and it was distorting a bit on stage but the di sound out front was pretty good according to the punters. I prefer to bring my own backline but if the sound guy has got his set up right, I will just go with it.
4. Ta for all the replies. Having read a few horror stories of people having had their laptops stolen at gigs, the midi controller idea is out. Myself and guitar boy are gonna hit the shops this weekend and get some ideas.
5.
When I set presets I mean sound wise, piano, organ types, synth types etc.
Cool man, I`m with you now.
6.
You're also going to need low latency ASIO audio interface otherwise you'll have around half a second delay between the keys on the keyboard being pressed and the note being played.
Cool. All good information
7. What sort of gear would I use to trigger the pre sets?
8. More than likely someone will be playing them and the computer is a Acer pc with 4gb memory and an Intel i5 processor.
9. I will be starting a new covers project soon and we need some synth/piano/keyboards sounds. Just basic stuff like the keyboard parts in the Killers songs etc. We`re not looking to be Gary Numan! None of us are piano players but some have dabbled. I went looking today for something that would do piano and synth sounds at a reasonable budget and there ain`t too big a selection. We can either get a keyboard that does all the usual piano, organ and a bit of synth or a Roland JD XI which does piano and synth tones and is a great piece of kit. And it has the bonus of being quite small, the size of a large pedalboard which is half the size of a keyboard. Before I splash £420 on one of these, could I get away with using a MIDI keyboard controller plugged into my laptop for live use? Does anyone use this set up? If so, what are the pros and cons. Thanks
10. Fender recently did a Gary Moore strat, it was around £13000 and they were all pre sold so somebody must love these creations. Good on you if you have the cash.
11. The hot output has been discussed on here and that Talkbass, with various solutions. Have a search and you shall find Nothing better than buying a bass for not a lot of cash and loving it.
12. Why didn`t they build it slightly larger and make it 500ish watts like most of these small class D amps seem to be? I certainly wouldn`t spend my hard earned on a 200 watt class D amp, made by Trace or anyone else.
13. I thought Morning glory was quite good but his own songs were dreadful.
14.
Or if you don't mind a slight deviation from the Fender norm - a Yamaha BB424.
This man speaks the truth. Got one s/h off here and I prefer it to my Nate Mendel P and highish end Ibanez.
15. Joe Bonamasa is the man for 59 Les Paul`s, he has owned 13 of them. I think he still owns 3 and gigs them.
16. Nice. I think the plaques are a nice way of paying respect to a person or place that meant something in music.
17. Dan. The E bay link looks like a genuine Tokia, one of the newer models that are made in China.
18. The Tokia copies that I have seen with the Fender shaped head stock have had the truss rod adjustment at the body end as per 60`s and early 70`s Fenders. The newer Tokia`s have a different style head stock design so as not to infringe Fender`s copyright. To be honest, I can`t see this being a early 80`s Tokia copy as they are highly regarded Japanese made instruments and were thought to be as good as, if not better, than what Fender was making at the time. Why someone would put a Fender badge on one of them? What you more than likely have is a bitsa and one you seem to be happy with which is all good.
19.
I think it's all a bit exaggerated, really. He's a typical introvert and he ran a tight ship but he's hardly Don Van Vliet. Let's not forget that for several years the band consisted of four chums from Blackpool grammar school + Martin Barre. And for what it's worth, I think I prefer to eat breakfast alone as well! Peggy is indeed a fantastic player. For my money the best living bassist. Incidentally, he was actually with Tull for a longer period than Cornick, Hammond-Hammond and Glascock combined.
I don`t know about it being exaggerated. I have a dvd with all the members of Tull talking about the history of the band and Pegg says that when he joined the band, Ian said to him "He doesn`t like me, nor him or him. And he was right!" But Ian is responsible for some of my favourite music over the years.
20.
I think Mr Anderson can be 'challenging' to work with...
I think that could be the understatement of the week Apparently, Tony Iommi sat down at the same table as Ian to have breakfast and the rest of the band looked on in horror, as Ian sat a one table and the band at another. Glen Cornick was a great player as was Pegg and Glascock.
21. Just read that Gregg died earlier today. The Allman Brothers meant a great deal to me growing up. I`m off to listen to Live at Filmore East. Rip Brother
22. I had a play with a new "band" last night. The drummer and singer didn`t show and the 2 guitarists who did were bloomin shocking. Anyway: People with a professional attitude: songs learned, turn up and be on time. Decent drummer Decent kit And a sense of humour. If any of the above is missing, go in the direction of away.
23. That second one "in fabulous condition" needs a "fabulous" new nut!!
24. As Lozz says, the die hard fans will notice but it is very difficult to get a bloke who can sing in the original key. The solution is to get a female vocalist but that doesn`t help yourselves. Good luck anyway.
25.
Definitely - do it! The LH500 is fecking superb.
Mine turned up today. Looks better in the flesh than the pics. Haven`t had a chance to plug it in but it looks and feels like a good bit of kit. And a steal at £200.
