1. I have a Ashdown Mag 300 2x10 for sale. I picked it up last year for £100 which seemed like a bargain. Got it home and found that there is a "static" sort of noise coming through the speakers. It`s not a loud noise but is there all the time. It didn`t bother me as I hooked my old Mag head up to the cab and have used it on quite a few gigs. The cab is a bit tatty and some of the carpet covering is torn on the bottom of the cab but the grill looks okay apart from a few scratches and the cab has performed well. If you are handy with amps or just want to use the cab, it is ideal. It is not perfect and the price reflects this. I will get some photos up asap. It is collection only from Paisley or my workplace in the Kingston Bridge area of Glasgow. On getting this out, I remembered I had put my nick name on it at the back Very rock n roll!! ****ACTUAL PHOTOS BELOW****
2. I had a Squier, bought about 2003, that was a midnight wine sort of colour but it looked like a kind of metallic finish.
3.
Damn you guys really are super sleuths...who needs Scooby Doo?
Damm Too late!
4. I think that part of the problem is in the 50`s, 60`s and 70`s, there wasnt the abundance of good quality, well priced basses available like we have now and Fender had most of the market. And there wasnt the internet for players to bitch to each other how bad some of those Fenders were. Now most of us have heard stories of how bad Fender qc can be, although I have never owned a "bad" one. Compare this to the recent Squier models which, on the whole, seem to be very good value compared to their US cousins at around a third of the price. I have a VM77 Jazz bass: it`s great to play and have gigged it several times and will do in the future. If it sounds and feels good, I don`t give a baboons backside which name is on the headstcok.
5. My 3 decent basses all have black Schaller straplocks. I have 2 straps, one black and long, the other brown and big and wide.
6. Thats what I meant Discreet but you said it so much better
7. There is nothing worse than doing a gig with band members that you are not confident can do the biz. Been there and baled out sharpish. There is nowhere to hide when you are playing for the public.
8.
If you know where to find B then AC/DC’s Livewire is more or less sorted. Cliff Williams deliberately keeps his bass lines simple so virtually any AC/DC is a good starting place.
Agreed, plus they are loads of fun! The live version of let there be rock is good for the right hand stamina. Of course, you could be a Boyzone fan
9. Pawn Shop Mustang. Kicks the butt of a P bass as well
10. Sorry Dave, looking for a local collection only, which is now sorted. And thanks for the kind bump Ray.
11. This was in the recycle pages but no one wanted it for no money I don`t actually want any money for it but had to put in a value. It is in okay nick, all the catches work, it is a bit rough in places, has a nice furry interior, a few stickers from previous escapades put on by a former owner. I don`t use cases and it has been sitting neglected and doing the missus head in, so it has to go. You can collect it from my home in Paisley or at my work during the day in Kingston bridge estate. Please don`t make me Gumtree it!!
12. A local Glasgow store owner told me a few years ago he sold 10 guitars to 1 bass. Easy economics. Having said that, Glasgow, being the major city in Scotland , is well served.
13. I had a TRBX 304 and whilst it is a good bass, I fell out of love with the sound of it rather quickly and moved it on. I have bought a few of the cheaper Ibby SR models and moved them on as well. I would not buy another "cheap" active bass again. If you aren`t happy with the bass, return it now and get something else.
14.
So...Mark King's now playing a 'Behringer'. Who'd have thought...?
Im just waiting on him pulling out his new Harley Benton bass sig model
15. Got one of those plywood covered with pvc style cases. Bit tatty but all catches work and the inside is fur lined Pickup only from Paisley or you could collect it from my work place in Kingston est, next to the old Harry Ramsdens. If you want it give me a shout.
16. I have a 86 Jap model and they are indeed cracking basses. I haven`t played a Taiwanese one but I would image it would be a very decent bass also.
17.
Well that's done it! Thanks for that... It's quite heavy though! I wonder what the Ashdown clone is like... I suppose if it bursts into flames it'll prove it's an authentic copy...
You best be careful, youll rip your tights....
18. Geddy has got to be the nicest man in rock. But he did mention the R word at least twice
19. I play in an ACDC tribute band. It`s not an exact tribute act though: we have a girl singer who does the job well and our Angus doesn`t dress up in the school uniform anymore as "I want to let the music do the talking" So the singer dresses up in the school outfit! He is good though, the best Angus I have heard. Its great fun to play, just hard driving rock n roll!
20. Yamaha BB any day. Either a 70/80s Jap model or one of the newer ones. Both are excellent.
21. Bloomin heck!! The price hike on those Squier basses is shocking. A VM 77 jazz has gone up £35! Sod exchange rates, that is just taking the preverbial. I will never buy a new bass again. Second hand from now on.
22. Yamaha BB1100s, active on, into a Zoom B2 (used as tuner and a bit of a boost), into a Behringher BDi21, into the effects return of my Ashdown Mag 300 2x10. Just started using this set up and I prefer the tone shaping of the BDi rather than the amp eq.
23.
I have a P bass incoming and I'm pretty sure that's going to disperse my Stingray GAS. At least for a bit, anyway.
So, back to where you started? Any more info?
24. Nice colour combo but it needs a black pickgaurd (Runs for cover!)
25. I ran a Behringer Europower powered mixer for 5 years in the covers band I was in and it never let us down once. I didn`t even keep it in a case and dropped it on a few occasions and still it worked. We bought it second hand and was still going when I buggered off. I had a TC BG250, just out of warranty, that went up in a puff of smoke and I paid £350 for it if I remember. I may get one of the Ampeg clones or the BX4500 Ashdown clone. Just have to sneak it past the mrs if I get one
