1. I dep for a band just now where everything is played a half step down - E is E flat, A is G sharp and so on. I have something on the go where I might have to play one song in standard tuning and the next a half step down, then back to standard. I could use 2 basses but that is a pain in the behind. Could I use a pitch shifter pedal that I could kick in to detune the sound half a step, then kick it out to go back to standard tuning? Is this what this pedal does? It may seem like a dumb question but pedals are not my strong point.
2. Yeah Lozz, great basses. I have owned most things - Stingrays, Status, P basses....and I really prefer this. Not too heavy, good range of sounds in active or passive, and the neck is perfect for me. All I have done is stick on a set of Chrome flats, Schaller strap locks and have gigged nothing else since.
3. The morning after my BG250 went up in a puff of smoke, I got a Ashdown Mag 300, 2x10 on gumtree for £100. Not the lightest of combos and slightly tatty but does the job. Unless you have pa support or quiet band mates, I can`t see a 80watt amp doing the biz. But you know the type of gigs you do better than me. Why not stick a wanted advert on your local Gumtree and see what pops up?
4. I recently got a BB1100s and I think it a cracking bass. Active/passive, P and J set up.
5. Withdrawn for now. Might just keep it. Up for sale, straight trade or trade plus cash my way. Fender Mustang, MIM, Short scale, 38mm nut, bought by me new in 2013. The bass is in excellent condition with no dents, dings or scratches that I can see. It has been gigged but looked after. It weighs in at 9-9.5 pounds or 4kg. The bass is fitted with D`darrio half rounds and I will include the original Fender strings. It does not come with a case or bag but if posting, it will be sent in a full size hard case which is meant for protection only. The pickup wiring has been modified as described below by my guitar chap as the pickup is hot. It can be easily modified back to stock if required. I have nicked the text below from Telebass`s description as this is where the mod came from, so I hope you don`t mind TB. "To get the bite, you do a simple electrical mod. The TEB101 humbucker is a 4-wire jobbie. Under the plate is a taped pair, red and white. Solder red to ground and the white to the green wire on the volume pot. This puts the pickup into parallel mode, halving the impedance from 22k (HOT!) to around 11k, not too far off a standard P-bass pickup". The only issue is with the position of the bridge. It has been factory fitted about 1mm out of line with the string through holes. It does not effect the string alignment on the neck or the sound of the bass and is only noticeable very close up. Most of the early ones I have seen, have this issue and I have only mentioned it as I like to be as honest as possible. There is a photo showing this. The ones that have sold on here previously seem to go for around £500. I am looking for £460 posted to you, UK mainland only. I will knock something off the price for collection of course. Trade wise, I will do a straight swap for a P or Jazz Classic Series A GL tribute or US MM sub plus some cash my way A Squier CV or similar plus cash my way Or something else 4 string and fretted. The only thing I`m not interested trade wise is a Ibby SR or a Thunderbird and I don`t want to trade up the way. If we can do the deal face to face, all the better and I don`t mind travelling within reason. I am located in Paisley just outside of Glasgow.
6. The last gig I played, the bass amp was around 6 inches behind my legs, just in front of the bench seats. So in the fine old tradition... "Sweet spot, my a#se!"
7. It`s not battered. It`s a road worn, relic, vintage bass If it had Fender on the headstock it would be worth about a grand but as it says Yamaha on it, not a great deal. But these Japanese basses from the 80`s are the dogs dangallies.
8. I am surprised to hear that the US and the MIM sound very similar considering the difference in price. For me, the 77 is a more pleasing sound. Good video.
9. From a peak of 9, am now down to 4 and am looking to get rid of one as I use my BB now for any gigs that pop up. It is the perfect bass for me.
10. The reason Andy McCluskey plays "upside down" is because the only bass he could afford when learning, was a left hander which he played like a right hander. After he could afford a right handed bass, he was so used to playing the left hander that he strung it upside down. I think I remember him saying that he felt that having the E string on the bottom (or top?) made it better to play. Ooops! Beaten to it by ET. That will teach me to read all the posts... 11. That colour combo is fantastic looking. Had I any cash, one of these would be on it`s way to Jezza Towers. I like the gloss finish that they put on the necks now, just sets it off.
12. Look on the bright side. When you leave after the last gig, you will be so happy, you will feel like your walking on the moon...
13. Essential things to buy along with your TC BG250 combo. Fire extinguisher for when the amp goes pop and pours smoke. Fireman Sam yellow helmet, just so you look the part. Other amp that you have had for almost 10 years, to use when the above happens. That`s all.
14. Got to agree with you Molan. Malcolm, Phil Rudd and Cliff, what a rhythm section. His playing will be sadly missed. And my heart goes out to his family if it is indeed dementia. A condition that has touched so many families including my own.
15. It is rather sad. Malcolm is one of the finest rhythm guitar players around and was also the leader of AC.DC from the very start. And to be honest, a lot of the fans that follow the band now won`t notice the difference as the star of the show has always been Angus backed up by Bon, then Brian. And that was the way that Malcolm decreed the band would be from the start and if you didn`t like it, you got the old elbow.
16. Original hard shell case? Something like that.
17. It may only be your first band but you have learned many things Grasshopper! They do seem untogether but there are lots of people playing in bands who are like this. But at least you are getting some playing time in a band situation and learning what being in a band is about. If you have nothing else lined up, stick it till you find something else or can`t take it anymore. At least you now have something to judge other band you audition for by.
18. If you own a 70`s Fender, please don`t look at the picture as you may die laughing It is a very, very minor "flaw" but if it does yer head in, get it sorted.
19. Bedroom guitarist`s. We have all met them at some point down the road. I would not feel humiliated but relieved that I was shot of the tw*t.
20.
I haven' t seen it but it sounds like it was Lee Pomeroy.
Yeah I think it was indeed that man. First time I have seen him without a Stingray.
21. Don`t know where to get them but you could try the site "guitars by leo" Hopefully you can get some info there.
22.
Get a pair of pliers on your singers nuts & you could do Rubettes "Sugar Baby Love".
This is a good idea, even if you don`t want to do that song
23.
I want to part on good terms, smooth the transition if they look for a replacement bassist and still be talking to them at the end of the process, since they've been friends since before this band existed.
The best option by far. As you have know them before the band was together, its good to keep things amicable. Re the driving thing. I will never join another band where people don`t have their own transport. It just becomes too much hassle.
