2.
Touch wood and all that guff but I have gigged mine a few times and had no problems with it. I use it every night in the house as well through the headphones but can understand the lack of confidence once it goes pop.
Well, this is the first time I have quoted myself in a topic. I was doing a gig last night with a local acdc tribute band and I was checking my gear yesterday, as you do. Turned on my BG 250, it goes pop a few times and smoke comes from the back of it. I will never buy a piece of kit from TC again. Even if it is still in warranty and could be repaired, I could not trust it on a gig. This morning, I paid £100 for a Ashdown Mag 2x10 combo and have swapped out the Chinese head for my old British Mag 300 head. Talk about tempting fate with the above December post
3. Can`t go wrong with The SR range, 300 and above. The only thing I find is the resale value sucks. But here I am going on about resale when you haven`t even got the thing!
4. I had the same problem trying to fit the notes in and keep it in time. I ended up playing something that sounded ok and got away with it. It goes to show how good a player Macca is to be able to sing and play at the same time. Thank god my next dep is with a local acdc band!
5. You, as the bass player, are never too loud. Learn how to sing/do backing vocals. This may be the difference in getting your dream gig. And no hats. Period.
6. Not like you to come away with a Larry Grayson moment Discreet Had to alter the post as I think that is Big Brown, which may be the same bass but wouldn`t want to give out bum info.
7. Look, all you need is one of these!! I give you Mr Phil Lesh and his Big Brown.
8.
I'm crap and I know it. But I LOVE IT!!
Same here. If this was Talkbass, we could start a club I`m competent, nothing more, can`t slap, pop or any of that guff but have always managed to play in a gigging band when I want to. Don`t get hung up on it, there is always someone better than you. I know a guy who is a brilliant player but his attitude stinks and he doesn`t last long in any band he joins.
9. There is an often told story about a Family man bass lesson. Can`t remember who it was but they turned up all excited at Astons door, ready to soak up all the knowledge that the great man would share. They knocked the door, Aston opened the door and said "Nothing above the 5th fret!" and closed the door. A true story allegedly
10. Got to agree with the comments above. I recently bought a 86 BB1100s from a good chap on here, and it has a lovely P bass tone. If you are looking for a 70`s P bass on a budget, look no further. The Jap Yamaha`s are the real deal and great bang for buck. I wish I had sussed this years ago and saved myself ££££.
11. Just bought Kenny`s BB1100 and a fine old girl it is too. Top man to deal with and he also threw in a nice case as well. Thanks
12. Lem is the man. End of conversation
13. If you want an Ibby, I would look for a SR500. They come in just under £500 but you can pick them up s/h on here for around £300. Damm good bass with Barts instead of Ibanez pickups. The thing with Ibanez is, you rarely get a bad one, their qc seems to be good.
14.
Jack White is imo the modern day guitar hero. The guy is unbelievably talented and is very passionate about what he does.
Still looks to me as if that young man needs a damm good wash. No matter of how good/bad a guitar player he is.
15. I used a green scourer pad and some colour restore, similar to T cut, and it took that horrible shiny look off of a Squier Jazz body. Only took about 20 mins and some elbow grease.
16. All the best for a speedy recovery Howard.
17. I won`t go near the stage until the fire jugiling monkey`s have left. Nearly burnt my eyebrows off last time.
18. I have owned a MM Stingray and a Sterling by MM Ray 34. They were both good in their own ways but I paid £50 more for an almost mint MM second hand Stingray, than I did for a new Ray 34. I would say if you want that sound, look out for a second hand MM Stingray or a MM Sub (the original US one) if you are on a budget. And yes, it is bloody confusing!!
19. As an owner of an original BG250 with the 15 inch speaker, I would go for the 112. I have gigged it loads and it is loud enough for any pub gigs. As it has the same output as the 15, although a smaller speaker, it should cope ok. The 15 weighs 16kg and is ultra portable, so the 12 won`t weigh any more. The speaker will be a 4ohm one so you are getting full power and that is why there is no speaker out option. It is also great for plugging in the phones and computer for silent practice. My advice, buy the 12 and sell the external cab.
20. Really cool and well done. Love the headstock detail.
21. You have to follow your feelings. If you have had enough of music, knock it on the head. Most of us will still be here for you when/if your desire to play music returns. Listening to and playing music is, I suppose my religion or the nearest thing to it but music will always be there for you if you decide to return.
22. A couple of years ago, my then guitarist, was wanting a Les Paul. He looked at a Gibson Studio LP. The black paint job was very poor is some areas and had some dodgy fret work. The 2nd hand Jap Tokia Les Paul copy he looked at had a flawless paint job, was very well made, sounded as good and was half the price. Guess which one the plonker bought? I think Gibson survive on their name alone, as do some others to be fair.
23. Buy the mag every month as its the best, even though it has lots of those nasty six string things inside. I thought that was mabye your collection Mr Flat and stunning is the only word. Thanks for sharing.
