More than likely the neck was re finished? As far as I know, he always plays his original P on gigs unless it has a problem.

I`ve gigged the 1x15 with no pa support quite a few times and have never had any problem being loud enough. I don`t think I have had the master above 6 and I played with a loud drummer miked up through the pa.

Eric Clapton could afford any vintage guitar out there but mostly plays custom built new strats. Granted, they are most likely the best quality guitars that Fender make but if vintage guitars sounded "better" I`m sure Eric would be playing them. Vintage guitars = snake oil. Ducks for cover....

Nah I don`t miss any band I have left. I shot the craw as I didn`t like what was going on and or the people involved. I do miss playing with the drummer who I played with for 6 years or so but I am meeting him for an informal jam on friday with some other guys, so I`m looking forward to that.

The post 2012 SR 300`s are really good. I had a black one, nice and light and a good range of tones could be had with the 3 band eq. All the SR models have slim necks. Another great bass with a slim neck is the new Yam TRBX 304. Two band eq and 5 position switch gives you plenty of options and Yamaha build quality is superb. So good, I bought one.

I would keep the L2000 and the P bass. The L2000 cause it is possibly the most versatile bass around. The P bass I would keep as every bass player should have one. Or mabye 2..... I have found out over the years that there is times when only a P bass will do.

If you are after a retro sound for less than 300 quid, you could go for one of the VM series, either the Jazz or the P with the Jazz and P pickup. The only thing with Squiers is sometimes the quality can be a bit dodgy (I haven`t tried any of the new models though) so mabye it would be better trying them out in the shop. Or better still, look out for a s/h Yamaha BB414 which has the P/J pickups. The Yamaha basses really are some of the best buys in any price range (as are Ibanez but you are looking for a retro sound) and one of these can be had for less than your budget.

The ESP seems grossly overpriced for a back up bass. Did the Wal ever sell?

Cracking deal. A US P bass for £350. Used to have a black one a few years back and sold it to Johnny frog on here.

It is a bass body, routed out for P (precision) and J (jazz) pickups. Looks like a BC Rich body or a copy of one? Looking at the size of the pickup routs, it is more than likely a 4 string but hard to say for sure due to the angle of the photo`s. I don`t know how easy it would be to find a pointy type replacement neck for it but measure up the neck pocket and have a search for one. Hey Stinky, don`t fret about it. Years ago I had a compound fracture and dislocation on my left pinky and thanks to the wonders of modern medicine, it is now almost completely useless. I don`t use it for fretting the neck at all and have always managed to get by. I think most of us have had these herberts and most of them seem to be bedroom players or people who aren`t in a band as they are useless or lack the social skills required to be in a band [size=4] [/size] [size=4]They are jealous as you are the one playing the gig and not them.[/size]

If you are playing in a beatles band, I guess it must be a Hofner or similar type bass. If your shoulder is giving you problems, I reckon you would need to get out and try some basses. Regarding other types of SS, the Squier Mustang isn`t light but the Jag SS gets a good write up. Or mabye you could follow Macca`s example below and get a Jazz....
