1. There wasn`t any "reliced" basses but there was a few "stripped" P basses. I believe that in the late 60`s early 70`s, this was the fashion, relicing is the fashion at the moment.
2. Nah, it just the paint job on the body. That P would be ideal. Now, off to your local motorcycle custom shop and get one of the painters to do the pinstripes for you and get your `Toon sticker!
3. Dingus is correct, it isn`t a slab bass, it is just painted on binding. I`m sure that someone on talkbass made one of these. Get a MIM white one with a maple neck and get a fancy paint job. And new pickgaurd, pickup, baddass... Steve`s is 74 P bass made of Western big leaf maple instead of alder which was in short supply at the time.
4. Steve. If you want it as cheap as possible but still half decent parts, as Bassbus says, try CH Guitars.
5. Just seen this. I know Wal`s are pricey but this is bloomin expensive! Having said that, I know almost sod all about them, so it may be worth it. Does the Foxton connection make it worth the price? He isn`t exactly know for playing Wal`s.
6.
Yes, it's a fake. Those eBay ads have appeared a number of times. I forwarded them to Jens awhile back. He replied quickly that he was already aware the companies were producing fakes. If you've not already viewed it, there's a YouTube video from a recent NAMM show where Jens Ritter posed as a reporter and tried to ask questions of one of the fake-builders. He was quite classy. (I would not have reacted so reserved.)
A fake from the Govan area of Glasgow??? Never been known
7. It looks like the headstock is gloss finished? If so, is the neck board gloss as well? The old one I had was matt finished. Nice looking bass.
8. For £200 you should be able to pick up a s/h CV.
9. Cancel the flying monkeys!!! And for that matter, the dancing horses!! I`m not cleaning up after that lot! These are now on hold for Fionn.
10. More than likely it has been a black one which has been re sprayed. Whatever it is, it`s really nice and a good price as well. These are a step above the normal MIM`s. GLWTS.
11. I looked into this very thing a year or so ago. It was going to be about £70 for the routing and new pick gaurd plus the cost of the P pickup. Get a s/hand post 2009 MIM Jazz or a Classic Vibe and the whole thing would be in your budget. I think there is/was a MIM Tony Franklin Jazz (edit: it`s a Reggie Hamilton) with a P pickup in it but I haven`t seen many around. Or a Stuart Ham P which is a Jazz body with a P pickup. Add a Jazz pickup and your sorted.
12. I love that in the advert from Thomann, it says "Extremly light class D poweramp" and further on it says 33kg!
13.
It's the old story. People like the idea of being in a band. They like telling their friends and family that they are 'in a band'. But an awful lot of people just don't want to put in the necessary amount of hard work, perseverance and total commitment that is needed. It's hard to find a band of people who can play their instruments to a high standard, who are on the same wavelength stylistically and musically, who are talented and intelligent, want the same things out of the band and are prepared to put in the effort and time and make sacrifices over an extended period to make it work. It's like everything else - any idiot can do easy things, but anything worthwhile is always difficult.
I think this is the most sensible thing that you have ever said Discreet. Don`t let it happen again!!
14.
It's all from his fingers..... ....and the 2 flightcases full of rack equipment he has. Someone had a decent pic of it a couple of years ago and managed to identify almost everything in there but don't ask me where the thread is now.
Here`s a not very good pic of his rig. 15.
I remember reading a while back that that the only effect he has is the venerable dbx160(?)
According to Michael Kenney, they use the DBX for a balanced signal before the sound goes into the CA Audio pa amps, putting out about 500 watts that he uses. This goes into into 4 custom Marshall 4x12`s. He doesn`t use a bass amp as such and seemingly no effects.
16. If you bought the bass 2 weeks ago and your not happy with it, take it back and get them to fix it. Easy peasy!
17. Sounds like a bad earth or a dodgy bit of wiring? Take it back to the shop, more than likely an easy fix.
18. Looking through this thread has made me realise how my listening habits have changed. In the late 80`s to early 90`s, I was a tape junkie with a vast collection and my Sanyo Midi system with it`s double tape decks, one of which never seem to run at the correct speed. All through the 90`s, although I had a Marantz cd player, my main bag was a Rega Planer 3 turntable with a glass platter (lovely piece of kit) and various amp`s and speakers. During this time, the quality of the pressings seemed vitally important, virgin vinyl, 180 gramm etc. In the late 90`s and early 2000`s, it was all about high end Marantz cd players, NAD amps and KEF speakers. Now it is all on a small hard drive, the size of two fag packets. I still have a Yamaha AV amp and a small set of speakers that I run the computer output through but the obsession with quality that at one point seemed so important, has been left aside. The quality of mp3 and downloads is good enough for me.
19. That is a good looking bass. I`ve got gas for the 304 with the 5 position switch.
20. A Geddy Lee Wal and a Yamaha trbx 304. Totally opposite ends of the price spectrum but at the moment can`t afford either of them!
21. I used to have lots of vinyl but it took up too much space and after using cd`s, I got lazy. Now everything is on the computer hard drive and I can`t be bothered with cd`s now. I still have the cd`s but the vinyl is long gone except for a couple of Led Zep`s, Moving Pictures and On Stage by Rainbow.
22. I would say that 550-600 is round about the going rate. If you have played the Jazz and liked it, then get it. Any mass produced guitar maker can have the odd duff one.
23.
Absolutely love my Pawn shop edition, it's definitely got that p bass vibe but I love the super thumpy nature of a shortscale bass with flats.
I had flats on mine but found it way too thumpy. I now have a set of GHS rounds on it and this has improved the sound for me. They are one of the coolest looking basses around imo.
24. Just bought a TC BG250 combo. Light, small and loud enough for the pub gigs I do. I don`t know if I am totally sold on the sound yet after playing with a 2x10 set up for the last couple of years but hey ho.
