I looked into this very thing a year or so ago. It was going to be about £70 for the routing and new pick gaurd plus the cost of the P pickup. Get a s/hand post 2009 MIM Jazz or a Classic Vibe and the whole thing would be in your budget. I think there is/was a MIM Tony Franklin Jazz (edit: it`s a Reggie Hamilton) with a P pickup in it but I haven`t seen many around. Or a Stuart Ham P which is a Jazz body with a P pickup. Add a Jazz pickup and your sorted.

I love that in the advert from Thomann, it says "Extremly light class D poweramp" and further on it says 33kg!

[/quote] According to Michael Kenney, they use the DBX for a balanced signal before the sound goes into the CA Audio pa amps, putting out about 500 watts that he uses. This goes into into 4 custom Marshall 4x12`s. He doesn`t use a bass amp as such and seemingly no effects.

If you bought the bass 2 weeks ago and your not happy with it, take it back and get them to fix it. Easy peasy!

Sounds like a bad earth or a dodgy bit of wiring? Take it back to the shop, more than likely an easy fix.

Looking through this thread has made me realise how my listening habits have changed. In the late 80`s to early 90`s, I was a tape junkie with a vast collection and my Sanyo Midi system with it`s double tape decks, one of which never seem to run at the correct speed. All through the 90`s, although I had a Marantz cd player, my main bag was a Rega Planer 3 turntable with a glass platter (lovely piece of kit) and various amp`s and speakers. During this time, the quality of the pressings seemed vitally important, virgin vinyl, 180 gramm etc. In the late 90`s and early 2000`s, it was all about high end Marantz cd players, NAD amps and KEF speakers. Now it is all on a small hard drive, the size of two fag packets. I still have a Yamaha AV amp and a small set of speakers that I run the computer output through but the obsession with quality that at one point seemed so important, has been left aside. The quality of mp3 and downloads is good enough for me.

That is a good looking bass. I`ve got gas for the 304 with the 5 position switch.

A Geddy Lee Wal and a Yamaha trbx 304. Totally opposite ends of the price spectrum but at the moment can`t afford either of them!

I used to have lots of vinyl but it took up too much space and after using cd`s, I got lazy. Now everything is on the computer hard drive and I can`t be bothered with cd`s now. I still have the cd`s but the vinyl is long gone except for a couple of Led Zep`s, Moving Pictures and On Stage by Rainbow.

I would say that 550-600 is round about the going rate. If you have played the Jazz and liked it, then get it. Any mass produced guitar maker can have the odd duff one.

Just bought a TC BG250 combo. Light, small and loud enough for the pub gigs I do. I don`t know if I am totally sold on the sound yet after playing with a 2x10 set up for the last couple of years but hey ho.

When the guitarist starts playing "All day and all the night" by the Kinks, don`t start playing "You really got me" also by the Kinks. Not that I have ever done this you understand.....

[/quote] The Classic 50`s P bass is a 57ish replica made in Mexico and a very fine bass by all accounts. Really, there are lots of nice Fender models at various price points. If you are looking for vintage models, use the search function or contact someone like Ricks fine 52 who knows his stuff. (As do others)

If you get one then get Medium scale strings due to the string thru bridge.

Buy a post 2008 P or J from here s/h for around 650 to 750. As for J or P, only you will be able to choose. Also, if you get a P and don`t like it, someone on here will swap you for a Jazz or the other way round.

Never heard of him/her/it.
