1.
I thought the 1025X did a better P impersonation with its alnico pickups vs the duller sounding ceramic one in the 415!
The P pickup in 415 is alnico as well, with traditional polepieces though as opposed to bars is 1025. The J is ceramic in both.
2. I prefer the P pickup in the 424/425 and older 414/415 to the one in 102*/202* series. Less pillowy lows, more texture in the mids, and yeah, better P-bass approximation. All of them are lovely basses, if I were buying now I'd probably grab a 1025 based on built specs, but as I'm really happy with my 415, I don't feel the need.
3. Of course it is Silvia! I shall bring my Sadowsky-equipped Marcus and a Cali76 (both acquired via BC Marketplace).
4. I'm likely to show up, that would be a first for me (except for a few LBGSs).
5. I'll have a look if you still have it by my payday, love those old Yams.
6. there's my back on one of the pics as well, when I was trying out the Ibanez Portamento fretless (supercool bass btw, very uprighty sounding on a mix of neck pickup and piezo). Had brief chats with Silvia on both days, but didn't get my "BC'er portrait" taken
7. oh yes, I finally got to try a couple of ACG basses, including a fiver in Über specification. Didn't have much clue how the filters worked, but in some settings, accidentally, I was getting THAT tone, one I was hoping to hear. Also, super comfortable (although I prefer smaller fingerboard radius) and built quality second to none. Awesome stuff.
8. Also, I'll just leave my (public) fb album from LBGS here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10205850993892066.1073741830.1174473192&type=1&l=be77263407 don't expect Bluejay's quality or quantity of photos, still some of you may find some interesting. I had a good time, the loudness was indeed less obnoxious than last year.
9.
I was there yesterday and had a GREAT day. Yes, there was a lot of noise but I wasn't at all bothered by it. It might be because most of it was low end, but I could actually understand the person I was talking to. I also had the feeling that, apart from the Status stand maybe, there wasn't even that much slapping going on. Best experiences: -Having a chat with Roger Sadowsky. I think he might have been the nicest guy at the show. What a great man. -Checking out the TecAmp stand. I've said my Aguilar won't leave me for the next few years, but that might be changing... -Having coffee with Paul Turner. I've had the chance of meeting him twice so far, and already he knows who I am and invited me for a cup of coffee at the Maribelle's (just opposite of the Olympia). Great guy, great bass player. What also struck me was how nice everybody was to each other. There was no feeling of rivalry, nobody was walking around with a "I can play better than you" attitude... I think that would be different at a drums or guitar show. Oh and this happened. Photo by Paul Sips (the guy with the hat). I'm on the far left.
hey, it was actually me taking this photo, using Paul's phone though I totally agree with comments about Paul Turner too, I had courage to talk to him after a gig few years ago and we've been friends since, despite everyone being busy and meeting up only few times a year. Having guys like Steve Lawson, Mike Mondesir, Paul Sips etc recognise me on the first name basis is always supercool and heartwarming too.
10. 11. a bit of blu-tac worked on my BB415
12. there was a model with PJ configuration earlier. Around the time theyellowcar's bass was in production, I stumbled upon one of those PJs second hand in my local store, it had already been discontinued for a few years then. It had a super comfy jazz neck with almost black rosewood board, schaller style open gear lightweight tuners and a pickup selector blade switch. Being in high school, I couldn't quite afford it at the moment, and few weeks later it was gone. I've never seen another since, although a couple of pics came up when I tried to google some time ago, not knowing the model name. Hardware, finish, playability etc all felt like a very high quality instrument. edit: it was probably an Attitude Standard, and apparently there was a 5 string model too! I'm in trouble.
13. nice!
14. I remember them being sold in the mid- to late 90s. And I happen to have been at Wunjo's when the previous owner was leaving this bass behind! Nice and very young fella, just gave up playing. Good score man, nice alternative to a P bass.
15. So... after the London gig we (myself and a few friends) were chatting with Victor, and he said his plane to Spain is in about 4 or 5 hours and he wouldn't go to sleep anyway - we gave him a late night tour in a black cab including a brief visit to Ronnie Scott's and a walk in Soho. Couldn't believe it was happening!
16. You can have it in 34" as well. I haven't got an Anaconda bass, I do intend to though. Visited Andrew at his workshop several times, got him to do some minor work on my other basses, been to his launch event and to his booth at the LBGS - at those occasions I've tried most of the basses he's made so far and many that he's modified. Top man. To put it shortly, Anacondas are a well thought-of, functional and ergonomic package of quality woods, based on their tonal properties, with complementing it set of electronics, providing versatility and yet transparent reproduction of the organic "native" tone. Great hardware and killer B string. I'm getting one when I can, for sure.
17. these were indeed made by Mayones in Gdańsk.
18. Tone knob on the bass rolled off, then - red side button ON, gain all the way up, blend at noon, treble at 10 o'clock, mid shift in the middle position, mids at 2 o'clock, bass at 1 o'clock, volume to unity. Mind you, I'm not a great Muse fan, but that's what I use when playing Hysteria for fun, or noodle with similar tones.
19. I sent Mark an email with some questions today. I totally see myself getting a jazz and a precision from him, one of them rather soon (it should be the P, as I have a good Jazz, but Jazzes excite me more, and I have some exciting ideas regarding the built).

Alpher On Tour

I do hope so
21. beautiful, congratulations! Always liked the way they look, and one of those Aerodynes was also one of the best sounding basses I've heard in a live gig, and Paul Turner who stood there with me had the same sentiment, and he knows what a j-bass should sound like for sure. Good idea for the birthday present too. I treated myself to a lovely second-hand Marcus from classifieds here for my last year's 33rd. It was between that and a new Nate, which will hopefully happen sometime this year.
