1. Bass. The wife should love you for who you are and not control you with ultimatums. Tell her to sling her hook! Control freak alert!
2. I'm intruiged as to how people know this is a scam? Not something I've come across before. Other than obviously credit card payment, how could it be a scam without them actually having anything physically from the OP?
3.
wassat, a quick panic? oops sorry.
I shouldn't admit this.. but I properly LOL'd at that
4. Do you use anything on your strings? Fastfret etc?
5. Could be a nickel allergy?
6.
25% is nothing. The Ibanez BTB I bought (new) early this year for £425 is now £599. That's a 41% jump.
jesus wept....
7.
The bass I've got is a Hohner Rockbass. It's got quite a bit of fretbuzz on a couple of the strings, the tone control doesn't work and fiddling with the volume control normally causes the signal to cut out completely - so it's fairly crappy, but playable and doing an OK job. My personal preference would be to get a new bass (maybe a Warwick Rockbass Streamer or Yamaha RBX 375) but I want to make sure I do what's best for the band's overall sound. If the band ever gets some gigs then I'll be able to justify shelling out for some more kit, so I think I'd rather spend the full budget I've allocated on one item than spread it across both a cheaper bass and amp which I'll want to replace later. Not much support for the DI to PA option so far though, which I guess points me towards focusing on the amp.
I'd get a luthier to set it up properly, adjust the action on the buzzing strings (if you're not able to do it yourself) and get the bits repaired, and then use the rest of the money towards a new amp. Just sounds like the action's set too low and/or the truss rod needs adjusting, plus some loose connections in need of soldering/rewiring to me.
8. It's a difficult one... it does matter if you have a crappy bass OR amp without a decent one or the other (and visa versa) you won't be able to get a truly decent sound. But, I've managed to get 'decent enough to get by' sounds out of cheapy basses with a decent amp, so I'd be putting the money towards an amp personally.
9. Muse hysteria Tool schism bon jovi living on a prayer metallica orion
10. If t were me I'd learn the original, but then on the day ask about whether there's any room for maneuvre. If so, great you can improv on the fly, if not, you know the tracks so it's not a problem anyway.
11. I find those Dean Razorbacks pretty naff although some are nice. Just a bit OTT for my liking.
12. Basses do seem to be quite expensive at the mo. I bought my Dean last year for £599 and was told that I was buying at a good time as prices were looking like they were going to jump anything up to 25% in 2009...
13. I've just started bass lessons and want to do my bass gradings. My tutor advised me to start on grade 4 and get the book, after which he'd go through it with me in addition to normal lessons. I had no knowledge of theory before my lessons and have only really just started. The next exam is in June/July and my tutor's advice was to just book either the summer or winter one and just go for it. I've never done any gradings before so just wondering how realistic going from nothing to a grade 4 in just under 6 months? I am fairly confident that the pressure would make me practice and make me do it.. but I'm just wondering what other people's experiences are?
14. My god. Condolences to the friends and family.
15. I'd just go with the collective text message method...
16. lol! Genius. All this talk of basses is making me want a new one though... :\
17. Thanks everyone, had my ears syringed this afternoon and can't believe the difference.. everything is so loud somethings are unbearable! lol Going to a gig tonight too so that should be interesting! Earplugs all the way from now on lol!
18.
What I'm asking is: Are we one of your 'local shops'? If we're not too far away, we'd be glad to help you out in future.
My 'local' shops are Stafford and Cannock really... none of which seem to stock 5 string strings except on the very VERY rare occasion and I literally snap up the last set in the shop lol
19.
Sarah, I may be wrong but do you live in Stoke-on-Trent? If so, have you used our shop?
No I live just south of Stafford in Penkridge. Although I am going to see Kittie at the sugarmill tonight.. lol
20. Was after some 5 string bass strings and seemingly in my local shops they haven't even heard of 5 strings.. so I ordered online. Checked string busters etc first but found that absolute-guitars.co.uk was cheaper for the strings I wanted inc delivery (ernie ball power slinky 5). Ordered them 3pm yesterday, and lo and behold they turn up recorded delivery this morning! Was really impressed Never used them before but will definitely be adding them to my favourites.
21. I've found in my previous bands the drummer has ALWAYS sped songs up. Without fail. We all had to try and keep up with him otherwise he'd accuse US of not keeping time. How does that work?
22. Managed to get an appointment to get my ears syringed at 3pm today thanks to my ever patient boyfriend having some time off work and watching my kids for me. 2nd day off sick in a row now because of the nature of my work there's no way I'd be able to interview my clients if I couldn't hear them!
23. anthing that has ever featured on a 'pop party' album.
24. Ordered some ER20's and have an appointment tomorrow afternoon to get my ears syringed. Still mostly deaf. So much so I had to call in sick and struggled through my prebooked bass lesson this afternoon. What a nightmare
25. Why not start your own band if there's no bands YOU want to join?
