1. Had our last practice last night and I feel better for it, it has to be said. Although not perfect it sounded good both times we ran through the set so feeling more positive.. Still bricking it though.... Also annoyed as the promoter for the venue never returns my texts and I text him earlier in the week to confirm time for soundcheck and have had nothing back... doesn't help with the nerves!!
 2.
and Sarah, I'm trying to rinse the sarcasm outta your post and turning it into positive gesture of goodwill...hope you don't mind!
Feel free
 3.
Only advice you need is this: don't get lost. Don't get lost on your way to the venue. Don't get lost on your way from the dressing room to the stage (a la Spinal Tap). Don't get lost in the middle of a song. Don't get lost before you've taken your money, mingled with your crowd and thanked the promoter/staff. Don't get lost on your way back home.
lol! Thanks Shall I take a map for all of the above?
 4. And you want to be able to pull this off... for this saturday...... uh.... good luck!
 5.
found an old photo of me with hair at uni about 12ish years ago and my now departed beloved stingray (the only shot i have i think) sniff
Are those sideburns or is it part of your haircut? lol
 6. The one's I've ordered are ER 20's so will see how I get on with those
 7.
I know i for one prefer to have each of my strings at an individually suited height as opposed to "following the radius", For example my G is a little higher than the rest because its lighter and requires less attack - If it followed the radius id get a horrible clack from it, however i want a bit of clank from my B, E and A so their all lower.
Same here. I'd rather have them at a height I find comfortable and gets no fret buzz than have them all lined up nice.. lol!
 8. Thanks guys. Have managed to get some of the etymotic ones off ebay for £9.28 inc postage. Fingers crossed they arrive in time for the gig on saturday but I'm not hopeful. Ah well at least I'll have them for future gigs. Thanks everyone
 9.
How about trying the tapered style plugs ( cheap from Boots) and not push them in so far? I use them on my 'bike and find I can change the amount of sound-damping they give me by how far in I shove 'em! FWIW - I suffer from intermittent tinnitus through biking. You don't want tinnitus. Pluck
Well my ears whistle the majority of the time already but most of the time it's drowned out by everything else going on around me, which is why I want to stop it before it gets any worse!
 10. I know I should wear earplugs.. and yes I know I'm damaging my hearing... but I've tried earplugs and find that I completely lose the feel of the music and have trouble playing well. Does anyone else had this problem? I've even tried wearing one ear plug on the side closest to the drummer but still I struggle.. Anyone know I can get around this??
 11.
Bit puzzled about why you have so much thread sticking up from the saddles on the 3rd and 5th stings in the top photo - cant really see on the other but it looks like those saddles are lower than the others. I would expect the saddles to follow the radius of the fingerboard (unless its flat).
Probably my crap adjustments. After it's rejig this afternoon they're now not that high. The A is flush and the G is slightly raised but not as much.
 12. Have raised the strings again and then realised that the 3rd adjustment bit was an intonation fine tuner... so i've redone the intonation using that and now it's sorted (touch wood)
 13.
Difficult to tell from that photo. How much distance is there between the last fret and the bottom of the string? There should be at least 2.5 mm. What's the relief like?
bolt straight and always has been, but never had a problem before so thinking it's more the string height. have lost my bloody ruler!
 14. Was fine last night but then again I was playing sitting down without a pick. Today I was stood up using a pick. Here's the bridge. There's no neck issue.. that was on my other bass.
 15. hmmmm... which bit would lock it down? Let me upload a pic of it
 16. Adjusted my intonation and action last night only to pick it up this morning and my A string is clacking like a b*tch. On closer inspection of the bridge (a BB-265) it's got 3 adjustable bits so I'm presuming as I only adjusted 2 of the 3 somethings ballsed up somewhere and I don't know how to correct it. HEeeeeeeeeeeelp!
 17.
NP But now you made me pick up my bass you've got me jamming along to bloody CBeebies (which my daughter's watching the noo) Arghhhh!
Some of those basslines rock! Don't dismiss them! Lol
 18.
He's not really making your life easy if that's the stuff he's giving you to play along to. It's pretty open ended - more like a compliment to a riff than a riff itself. IMO what ever bassline you put on that will become the riff. Maybe that a good thing? I'd be inclined to stick with what you've got there (maybe beef up that Bb-C bit with some 3rds, 4ths and 5ths) and get your head together with the drummer and work out some dynamics.
Makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
 19.
I don't have an easy way of getting a recording up here quickly but here's the kind of thing I might play over the first riff: (d=staccato 8th note, D=legato 8th note, _=sustain for another 8th note, -=rest) d D d D - D F C d D d D F F# G_ Does that make sense? Alex
Could you put it in tab form? lol I'm a thicket..
 20.
sounds great to me (timing aside) so is that what he is complaining about as to me it complements it well
Yea I know about the timing. Was just a mere brainstorming play along. Will obviously rerecord it better if I use it lol!!
 21. Oooooooh didn't know you could do this! Well here you go. Here's the example. Excuse the quality as I was literally just fiddling around with his riff (Fnar!) in audacity so it's not great quality/very accurate. But you get the idea.
 22.
Fortunately my band is composed entirely of machines - (except me, probably) - however what may help technique-wise is this: Stand your bass guitar on end with the neck pointing up. Hold the neck in both hands, bracing one hand slightly lower down the neck than the other. Swing the bass up and round your head, into the back of the guitarist's, ensuring that you follow through. Power down your swing and rest your bass firmly and squarely in the small of your guitarist's back, shouting: "How do you like them onions you poncey little oik!" A swift kick in the happy sack is optional, but satisfying at this juncture.
Like it
