Nick's work is just mind-blowing. I'm actually saving up to buy every single product he's sent me prototype pictures of!
-
I believe it is a solid plastic cover and it is held in place with miscro-suction tape.
-
Did anyone actually run RTA on the MS to see those HPF curves? (I could have but I don't have an MS anymore lol)
-
Yeah he's pretty good actually. Most of my poly happens up the dusty end (in comparison to most) as I am predominantly a 6 player, but that said, there's good stuff happening in tracking midway in the direction of north of the border. Actually, tracking (in the right mode) is impressive across the board. I spoke at length with Morten who used to work for TC and I found out that within the toneprints, the parameters that govern poly tracking are also tweaked. So there's definitely some factors you can't get your hands on in the TonePrint editor. This appears to be how the get SnU to act like an analogue at times even though its definitely DSP. *I should also add that 'mini board' still hasn't been completed as I've been gigging the Helix to death right now.
-
I'm afraid I haven't! But I feel sure I read that someone suggested it's tracking wasn't as good as the TC or Pog.. don't quote me on that!

By all accounts according to this I am a genius.....

I’ve scanned through the article which reads like someone who listened to a couple of Satriani YouTube videos before spouting some uninformed bile.. and then backtracked just a little.. -
A sad day - Scarbee closing its doors - EDIT - They’re back!
Dood replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Other Instruments
No way!! One of my favourite artists is known for using the Scarbee VSTs and the sound he gets is just superb! I always meant to grab a download, so I thank you for the heads-up but sorry to read the circumstances. -
Oh that's a shame! I haven't used PC's for a while now so haven't used MIDI over USB on such devices. I agree though, MIDI for Apple devices, OSX or IOS is bang on and so far I've had no problems with that side of things at all.

I really recommend the Novation controllers! I have a Launchkey 49 that I picked up in an online dealing I love it! Lots and lots of assignable controls including drum pads for programming grooves but also knobs that can control say a mixer in a DAW or filters in synth VSTs etc. One thing I really love is the action of the keyboard itself. It knocked spots off a 'pro' synthesiser I had years ago! Finally, it will plug in to my iPad without the need for external power, meaning it and iPad become a very powerful standalone workstation! (Novation also have free apps specifically designed to work with Launchkey which are just superb to play with.) There are also 25 and 61 key models too depending on how much space you have!

I have to say, I really love FlexSteels and I think I also just have one pack left in my drawer. Depending on which bass, I either use D'Addario NYXL or ProSteels. I also really like the balanced tension D'Addario string too especially as the E string on a 4 string set comes in at 107 gauge. it's a small difference but the extra tension and mass works well on my basses.

Hi! There are literally so many options! Here's just a few of my set ups: 1. Basic Board: I run my bass directly in to Helix then direct to my amp. I wear ear plugs. This is a very simple set up where the Helix has the job of just being a super cool morphing pedal board. Helix runs in two 'play' modes basically. The first is that each numbered button selects a patch that could be a program encompassing a whole signal chain with different settings, amplifier sims and pedals. The second mode, once you have selected your patch or program enables you to assign each of the numbered buttons to specific tasks in that patch. For the most part in this configuration it is to activate or bypass individual or multiples of pedals. e.g. one of my buttons will engage both reverb and delay effects whereas another enables a chorus effect. Another button switches on two drive pedals whilst altering the level of a wet/dry mix. This set up doesn't use any amp simulations on Helix as the amp behind me is doing that job already.. but I do have a cabinet sim that I can switch on should I take a DI out to the PA via a separate output that I have configured. 2. No backline: A slightly more complex signal path per patch where I have assigned the different outputs on the Helix to do different jobs when needed. Most of the time I have found that I just run the XLR outputs direct to our digital mixer. The master mix of all instruments fed in to the PA of course goes out to FOH with an array of sound sculpting to makes us sound all lovely. I then have a sub-mix that I can either control by iPad or an external device. I connect to auxiliary outputs on our desk and the audio is fed back to me and my IEMs. I use 64 Audio A8 models. This allows me to have complete control over what I hear verses FOH. I either use a Fischer Stick headphone amplifier to take the signal from the desk to my IEMs or my external 'mixer' has it's own outputs for driving an active wedge or headphones/IEMs. 2.b No Backline, Helix controls IEM and aux mix: Not mine but this is ace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIWlCNhA96E - This is great as you can get away with not needing all the headphone amplifier /mixer stuff, just let Helix do it for you. 3. Hybrid: Like above, but a bit of tweaking allows me to send speaker simulated outputs to the PA and direct outputs to an onstage amplifier. 3b. Hybrid b: I thought I'd just note that you can set up external pedals in your programs too using the onboard loops. 4. At home: You can feed audio (MP3 player, youtube whatever) direct in to Helix in stereo and listen to it via headphones plugged ins to Helix then mix in the sound or your bass, effects and amplifier simulations. 5. At home 2: I haven't tried this one yet but Helix will also work as an audio interface plugged directly in to your computer via USB, so everything you play on the computer can be fed to the outputs on Helix, but also everything you play on your bass could be fed to a recording DAW on your computer etc! Lots of fun. 6. At Home 3: I never seem to find time to mess with it, but it's possible to set up Helix as a crazy loopers board! Layering sounds, beats, rhythms. 7. Tech Corner: I haven't had time to play with this one either, but I did start looking in to Helix controlling Mainstage on my Mac. I've watched 'Worship' players on Youtube demonstrating Helix not only being an effects unit but using key presses to initiate loops, the starting and stopping of backing tracks and even accessing synthesiser sounds / patches by accessing extensive MIDI control. 8. Tech Corner: Can't seem to get it to do the washing up or make coffee. I should probably log on to the Facebook group and start shouting about the next firmware update needing it - The Facebook Helix groups are brilliant and highly recommend as Line 6 staff are active on there and will reach out to you if you are stuck. Absolutely brilliant.

Again thank you and yeah, the red looks really good 'in person'.

My red set of KZ's have just arrived now. I've plugged them in for a quick ten minutes before my next student arrives and I am already surprised! I may tweak the EQ a little but they are rather impressive for the money!

Interestingly, the Shure SM58 came out in 1966 and it's design 'elements' can be tracked back to 1937 (though the 'final' design I suppose was perfected in the late 1950's. As far as I know, the SM58 hasn't changed since then. There's also no difference in element between the SM57 and SM58. It's just the ball grill on the end.

Ahhh you bought it! Lovely bass Tim. -
Possibly a long shot colour question #firstworldproblems

It has to be the right red though! My Power Jazz Bass Special is supposed to be CAR but it's so much nicer than other CAR Fenders. My Ibanez guitar also is just a gorgeous rich red. I'm fussy! -

If it made the sound I was looking for, I'd use a dustbin lid

Oooops, just bought a set. Thank you folks!

Good review here, especially mentioning ‘port blocking’ to increase bass end of the KZ’s http://www.thephonograph.net/kz-zs10-review/

I wanna red set lol. Can only find blue or black..
-
Right, well then I might give them a go then! How's the sound over all? Does it have a peaky top end or say more smoother?

Definitely intrigued, even for just listening to music through when I don't want to take my IEMs out. As an IEM spare set, for this money it's almost a no brainer to get me out of a pickle, even if I'd prefer a nice set of 64 Audio as a spare. (zero budget = not going to happen) .
