I've also just spotted the the X18 also uses Ultranet. When I am playing with my own band, I actually use the Behringer P16m for my stereo ear mix. In this case I wouldn't use my Fischer or any other cables - everything is connected via one single Ethernet cable. I love using the iPad app for my mixes, but I find for me personally the P16m gives me access to everything I need in the whole mix, so much so that I can adjust it mid-song, where as my little iPad screen is a bit fiddly when using the Behringer app.
2.
Get OBBM to build you a Y cable into which you can insert a standard XLR lead. The XLR lead going to you pack is the one that is going to take the abuse, so you may as well make that bit standard and leave the OBBM magic at the mixer side.
Which is the really obvious bit to mention! The cable that OBBM made for me is just that, a short run and of course yup, use a standard XLR lead to take you from backline up to you wherever you are on stage. Good point, I totally missed adding that to my reply.
3. D'Addario rounds, either Nickel or Steel. Sometimes I like to change things around a bit. The NYXL's are ace and despite being discontinued I have FlexSteels in my drawer which I also really like. Oh and the Balanced Tension Nickels. The only exception being for my unusual instruments that need strings that are outside of D'Addario's catalogue, in which case Newtone Strings here in the UK are amazing for custom work and are my go-to when it's time to order more. The customer service is superb too.
4. p.s. Once you've gone stereo, you'll never want a mono mix ever again! It makes so much sense to spread the instruments across the stereo field as if you were listening to a band normally. Nothing worse than hearing a congested sound where instruments (like synths and keys that are supposed to be stereo) mixed to mono sharing the same space as the drums, in mono, vocals, guitar nyargh!
5.
So... How would I configure my X18 to run stereo to a P2, or do I need a fancy lead?
I guess it depends on how Behringer configure their socket, but if they have done a direct copy of the Fischer Stick, then yes, its a special lead that takes a stereo signal and uses the three pins of the XLR plug/socket to deliver the separate channels. This is not the same as balanced line, thus the usual 'two XLR's to one XLR' merging cables will not work and shouldn't be used. Fischer actually make their own cables to go with the stick, but our favourite custom cable designer, Dave 'OBBM' built my cable for me and thus knows how to make them. - I would of course wholly recommend going to him, as you'll be able to specify exactly what lengths and connectors you need. For your Mixer, you will set up two aux XLR outputs, one for left and one for right. That will send out your stereo mix to your IEMs. Then it's just a case of hooking up the custom cable to the mixer and then the P2 (or Fischer Stick). I've not gone in to any detail about setting up your mixer for stereo, as that can vary from band to band depending on needs.
6. The Fischer Stick I have certainly has a lower noise floor, is lighter, doesn't require two XLR cables to weigh you down to go stereo /dual mono. My Fischer Stick also seems to run forever on two AAA batteries, yet my keyboard player has given up using her P1 as she's always reaching for fresh batteries (we gig a lot). Yes there are probably other offerings including Behringer's cheaper copy of the Stick coming out, the P2. That could be a good option, but I think I'd still be inclined to stump up for the Fischer. It's a great bit of kit. - I do run stereo IEMs and love that the stick can carry a stereo signal down a single XLR cable, which works well over long cables. I've had OBBM make me a splitter cable, which is AWESOME and I highly recommend his custom cable work.
7.
Cheers. In one of my bands a guitarist is considering a rolling case transport system! Pedal board and quilter amp set up. I've messaged him
Hi fella, I'm afraid it has been snapped up by the fine Osiris of the parish now.
8. Used once for a short period of time in one of my Jazz Bass Specials, this pickup has all of the cable still although the very ends have been clipped off. Uk shipping included.
9. Some of these, without screws. Have been on a bass so signs of use, which is nice if you are going for a 'played' look, but the gears are not worn. £25 delivered - might take a few days or so to get out to you.
10. An unused set of Dingwall Fan Fret spec Kalium strings for tuning down to F#, B, E, A, D with the gauges 182, 136, 102, 79, 59. To buy a standard set of Kalium strings it's around $36 +VAT +Shipping +Excise duty. Which makes them expensive. So I figure that this price is a steal for a new set. My basses are back to standard tuning thus I am unlikely to need these now. Will be sent recorded delivery.
11. Pictures to come, but a very well made flightcase for housing anything from IEM systems to D Class amplifiers etc etc. Absolutely will fit a GK MB800 / Fusion 800 but plenty of height available for other kit too. Collection or buyer pays shipping. There is no cardboard box so item will be shipped as is. It's a flight case after all

Line 6 Helix.

I've just posted for sale a flight case that will happily house the Helix or Helix LT. It's going cheap..
13. I'll get pictures up soon, But essentially this is a used flight case that has been built (edited) in to a very strong yet light pedal board carry case. I've realised I actually need something just a snip larger, thus this will go towards funding the larger box. It's not pretty and you might want to snazzy it up a bit, but I think this is a good price considering how much it costs to get a custom case made these days. Even Thomann's offering for a basic Helix case is £120 Collection or buyer pays shipping. There is no box to put this in so it will be sent as is. It is a flightcase after all!
14. I may include the foam yet, but I am waiting to find out if I will need it elsewhere. I guess any standard foam would fit - it's easy to buy stuff cut to size these days thankfully.
15. Look at Supro's Huntington models I,II & III. There's also Italia. The Imola and Maranello Cavo basses are two that spring to mind. How about a Hofner Verythin. Spector's shortscale semi is lovely but expensive. Can't think of anything else obvious. Gretsch Electromatic? I've no idea what the price of these are off the top of my head.
16.
Thanks Dood, I take it the DAW is what I'm using to edit the tracks after recording, is that also what I need to record in the first place? Sucks that Linux support isn't great, I'm not doing Windows ever again, I wonder if any of the rest of the band have decent pcs.....
That is indeed correct. A good DAW will allow you to easily record and then manipulate your recorded audio including editing and mixing. You will also hear people talk of applets called audio 'plug ins' too. Some DAW applications come with quite an array of plug ins, others not so. These plug ins are very useful and you can buy and install third party offerings to do a whole host of things! A few examples would include effects such as adding echo, reverb or effects to each track individually- you might like some effects on your bass sound. There are plenty of plug ins that can do that including amplifier modelling. Wanna sound like you are plugged in to an SVT? Plug ins also come in the form of Virtual Instruments too that can either be programmed to play sounds for you, such as drums, piano, synth etc, or you can plug in a MIDI controller such as a keyboard and play/record those sounds manually in to your DAW. The list goes on and I've tried to give you a few thoughts in laymans terms.
17. P.s. - Reaper is available as a free download to try out, but I bought the license within hours as I liked it so much. Many years later, still going strong.
18.
Secondlly, what kind software do I use to capture the recording live and then process it later?
Sorry, yes DAW: Digital Audio Workstation. (Cubase, Reaper, Pro Tools, Logic Pro and many others are DAWS)
19. Hey Jack, as far as I am aware - and I am happy to be corrected, Linux isn't so good for DAW capabilities, certainly in comparison to Windows or Mac machines. So, my first suggestion for recording software that will run on both Windows and Mac is Cockos REAPER Which is a blinding application for the money. I have used it for years including some pro-release material. It's a great application that doesn't suck all of your machine resources so will be good for lower power machines - I would however at least suggest a minimum of 8Gb RAM and say an i5 processor (quad core for a Mac). That's pretty much all you'll need, but you will have to install the drivers for the XR18 of course, plug in VIA USB and set up the inputs in the application so that each channel records on to a separate track. Funnily enough that's exactly what we were doing last week with our own XR18, but our laptop this time was running Logic Pro instead. Had I have had the XR here, I would have created you a template to mail over to play with but it's at a different location.
20. As Dan says, it is indeed the attenuator for setting the level of the tweeter output. I'm not sure where the 50/50 setting is on the SL, I can't remember, but half way round seems logical.
21.
Look what I found!
On the subject of Sheehan, this is the very crossover he's used for years to carve the lows off his 'high signal path' driven from the P pickup on his basses.
22. WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!! There's so many reasons to like that. Jon's work is flawless, a real leader, craftsman and luthier with an incredible attention to detail. Walshy, that's a great idea and I can see lots of people drooling over it Congrats!
