1. Actually, now I've researched, I understand why it would be difficult to get a truly isolated power supply in a smaller box!
  2.
the harley benton Junior from thomann is the kiddy has five isolated outputs and is about thirty notes I have been using mine for about four years and it hasn't missed a beat

I use the HB Junior too, you need to use the current addition cable though to provide 240mA (the Smoothhound needs 250mA).
Thanks guys! I'd spotted HB J in the thread in previous pages and I think that will be ok in the absence of a smaller offering - What I am looking for is something like the Mooer as I am building a small board. A 'gig bag fly rig' type of thing. If I can't do it with a micro pedal size distro then this is ace, but if I can... I enjoy a challenge
  3. Hi folks! Any ideas for a micro sized power distribution for my pedal board to include supplies that are isolated for the SmoothHound? Mooer Micro Power comes up on Google - anyone tried one? Or something better?
  4. Yup, I've received a bass delivered to my house wrapped in nothing more than one sheet of bubble wrap. It wasn't even secured. "Wow, what a surprise!" you can imagine I said when I saw it resting against my front door for the whole world to see clearly what it was!
  5. Record time, sold!!
  6.
Love these not in a position to buy but Glwts should sell quickly
Hey Thunderbird! Yes, there's so much to like about these - I bought two! (The other there's no way I am selling!)
  7. You'll find full spec, sound samples and videos of this rather awesome pedal here: This is my all time favourite distortion pedal and this example is as new. http://ebssweden.com/content2/ebs-billy-sheehan-signature-deluxe/
You’re unlikely to find many distortion pedals on the market for bassists that have managed to shoe-horn this much in to one box and sound this good without going down the ‘custom build’ boutique route. Superb. Superb." - Guitar Interactive Magazine, UK

THE BILLY SHEEHAN SIGNATURE DRIVE DELUXE IS THE NEW EXTENDED VERSION OF THE PREVIOUS SIGNATURE MODEL, ALSO RELEASED BY AND AVAILABLE FROM EBS. IT IS A COMPLETE ANALOG DESIGN WITH EXCEPTIONAL FEATURES TO TURN IT INTO YOUR OWN 'SIGNATURE' PEDAL. IT IS DEVELOPED BY EBS IN CLOSE CO-OPERATION WITH BILLY HIMSELF. More gain. The Billy Sheehan Drive Deluxe offers significant more gain than the original purple version. A ‘Boost’ footswitch even push the gain on the Drive to the extreme when needed. The level of boost can be adjusted internally by a trim pot. Phase inverter switch. With the ‘Phase’ switch set to ‘Inv’ (affects the drive only) you will achieve a more growly kind of distortion compared to the Normal setting. Swappable op-amp. There are a lot of drive pedals that are considered to be ‘classics’. Many of them use some variation of a standard type of op-amp circuit design called an ‘8-pin dual inline op-amp’. The new EBS Billy Sheehan Signature Drive Deluxe offer the user the unique ability to change this ‘chip’ to one that offers different characteristics to the Drive effect. The chip is accessed easily by removing the bottom plate of the pedal. It’s attached to the board by an IC-standard socket, and does not require any soldering to be swapped. See the Demo & Samples Tab for a op-amp shootout video as a reference guide. Shared features with 'the Purple' version The super cool loops. Use the Clean Loop to send a clean signal to an octave pedal and obtain optimized tracking while the Drive channel is still in use. Or put an Equalizer in the Drive Loop to fine tune your distortion character. There are countless options to use these loops in creative ways; these are only two examples to get your mind spinning. The built-in compressor. This pedal comes with a built-in compressor that you can leave off, set in Mid or in High position. The compressor helps to maintain definition of tone while you’re using heavy distortion. It also helps to blend together the distortion and clean tone better. There are two internal trim pots' that let you change the Threshold value and adjust the level of compression in the MID position. The controls. DRIVE sets how hard the distortion ‘engine’ will work. TONE changes the character of the drive sound; LEVEL sets the level of the drive sound, and CLEAN sets the level of your clean tone. Billy's words about the EBS Billy Sheehan Signature Drive Deluxe: " My new Deluxe pedal has more gain! It really screams. Much more than the first version, but you can always tone it down if you like. Also, one very unique feature that I think will appeal to a lot of people is the “swappable” 8 pin dual inline op amp. You can basically make it your own signature drive by replacing the main drive chip with another of your choice! Also, there’s a phase reverse switch for the drive channel that gives tones a very different dimension. And a “boost” switch to kick the drive into a much higher gain. All exciting new features that will make it easier for players to fine tune this device to their own personal needs."
8. Latest version with IB Mod and latest firmware as standard out of the box. Can be used either as a stand alone floor unit, or the brain can be slid out and placed in a rack along with all of your favourite boutique pedals leaving the controller only at your feet. Can switch external amplifiers and place your own effects in the signal chain ready to be switched in and out remotely. Pretty amazing actually! Look at the details below and please watch the videos on the TC website which better demonstrates what this beast is all about. Very sad to see this and some of my favourite kit having to go! I would recommend collection for this but shipping maybe possible. 9. You know this one well by now, much discussed and loved on BassChat. Two little chips (less than 1mm) on the sides but other than that, looks new, £55 which includes £5 toward shipping.
  10.
Dood, Great idea! I tried it at rehearsal using my Sony PCM-M10 Linear Recorder last week and it is a revelation! Really clear reproduction. I have ordered some moulded in-ear monitors and bought a Rolls PM55P personal monitor amp. The PM55P has a mic (XLR) input and mic through output with mic/line switch, a monitor (6.35mm phone) input with option for stereo (TRS) or mono, both with adjustable level control and it can be powered by an onboard 9v battery or from a pedal board power source. I don't sing with my band so I intend to run from the DI out from my amp through the mic in/outs and the ambient from my Sony PCM into the monitor input. I hope that it works and that there isn't too much delay. I will report back. BTW, Rolls also make a PM351 which has an extra input/output for an instrument.
Hey GrahamT! That sounds lie a superb set up! Yes please, I'd love to hear how you get on with it. I played a gig with just normal ear plugs at the weekend and in comparison it was really awful! I missed the clarity and stereo field I get with this little 'active set up'. A Revelation!

  12. I'll type more later but two tips. Keep the volume of you IEMs down. Don't wear just one ear plug or IEM on its own. You'll end up making things worse in both cases.
  13.
But I'm not asking that question.
I can only apologise for interrupting the direction of the current thread with possibilities of further discussion!
  14.
Ron Wood
Ronnie Wood's playing on Maggie May is so tasty.
  15. I guess my fellow D'Addario/Dingwall artist Nolly is known for his bass work in Periphery but he's a great Guitarist. Andy James usually plays all the bass on his solo albums (only cos he couldn't afford me lol)
  16. You could ask the same question of Bass Players on Guitar! John Deacon for example was a bit handy on the Guitar though you'd never have known on the face of it.
Thanks Iain, the sound is the most important for Me not sure I need the fancy stuff Squabble? Snapshot? -- So the sound quality is similar??? Dood what are FR800's??? Brendan

FR800 is the Barefaced FRFR powered cab. FRFR is Full Range Flat Response. It's the ideal amplification type if you want to use software simulations of cabinets. If you don't then you turn those simulations off and use any old amp (power section) and your existing cab. I use mine both ways depending on what I fancy. The sound quality is a massive hike over previous L6 kit. The software per model is over 4 times as large with far more information.
If it helps - now that it's got a bigger choice of compressors and drive pedals I haven't turned my regular board on. The only thing the Helix can't do very well at the moment is a synth sound like the BSW. Other than that, I don't need anything else. I have the full fat rack and floor controller, but I'm thinking of selling off my old pedal board and getting an LT as a back up / easy carry option.
I have all of my pedals out on the floor at the moment trying to decide what's going to be the best option. Do I really need the LT? - well, I would LOVE to get a pair of FR800's and the LT. That would be me done really I suppose (love that volume control on the top panel!!) - but that purchase is going to be a very, very distant dream!
  21. I think lots of people got their knickers in a twist because they believe that 500W (for example) is an absolute rating of 'volume', which of course it is not. The RH750 is still a very capable amp. If however you aren't swayed, then look at the BH800 which doesn't feature the 'tube amp emulation' of the APM circuitry and has a more 'hifi' tone which would suit your synth needs too I would guess. BH800 is a great little amp for the money.
  22. Yes! Interesting. I actually thought their Harley Benton (GLX, Red Sub etc) EQ pedal was good for the money so it'll be interesting to see how this fairs. Nice spec from what I can see so far.
  23.
That's a deal breaker if true. Surely those LaBella tapewounds made for the Kala basses would fit?
Information is a bit thin on the ground until people try it I guess. I don't have an answer I'm afraid!

On reflection, I think I see what you are saying. If the only way you can hear a cabinet is by placing it miles away then it isn't ideal for situations where you can't get the distance and thus one that works close up as well is a better option.

Yeah, I agree with your first point that some cabinets I have played with have a massive roll off of clarity as you move from their fronts round to the sides and some that are pretty woolly sounding (as an example) that seem to get lost in the mix the further you get way from them. I'm sure the resident 'experts' will be along to tell us why. Second point, I suppose that ultimately it's what works for one person may be completely different to another, for so many reasons. I were mainly referring to JL's 'nut sack' comment and possible ways that could help JL in hearing himself. I don't however think that placing a cabinet further away from you so that you aren't right on top of it is fighting it though? Maybe I am misunderstanding you, placing the cabinet away from you isn't a fault of the cabinet, nor is angling the cabinet upward so you can hear it more clearly. You may have to elaborate! Me personally, If anything, I don't want a cabinet that can't deliver across a stage (when required to). I'd ditch a cabinet that only offered me a very small aperture (if you want to call it that) where I can hear it clearly? I dunno, maybe I'm just not the 'standing still' type ha!
