2. If they are the 'vintage type' that I think they are, then there's only really one awesome choice! http://g-gotoh.com/international/product/product-category/res-o-lite The GB640 is a brilliant tuning key and is the 'normal' version of the GBR640 that has the reverse winning action you speak of. They are super lightweight too which is a bonus and the action on them is unlike any tuning key I've owned previously. Slightly more expensive, but so worth it! There's a few outlets online and eBay often throws up a seller doing them for a good price. Dood
  3. I've no idea what to actually call them! Pedal Mounting Kit? I really don't want to use velcro and the pedals aren't likely to be swapped in and out much. Maybe 6 or 7 pedals.
  4.
Interested too see where you got that info from? Even the old fender Japan site said nitro.
I'll stand corrected
  5.
We avoid all of those like the plague, although we were asked to play Sex On Fire for a function we were booked for. We were going to play it at the end of the set, knowing full well the schedule would probably over-run and we'd be cut short before we played it. It was, and we didn't 😉
Phew!
  6. If I were a landlord I'd have the equivalent of a 'swear jar'. Any band coming to play at my venue would be fined for playing certain songs on the 'banned list' ha ha! Starting with Sweet Child O' Mine, Living On A Prayer and definitely Sex On Fire, which is a dreadful song
  7.
A crappy video sometimes is made by someone around 54 years old who has no connection with modern technology and records some random playing with a Zoom Q3
Sounded pretty great to me. Your two finger speed is bonkers Great instrument too!
  8.
I'm sick & tired of doing gigs with talented musicians in this case a drummer that don't even listen to the songs , They might be able to blag it in a blues type jam but not when you doing covers like , Killers , Stranglers & Yes for flip sake !! grrrr !!....& calm .
I feel your pain and I am so pleased to say that I have found a band who are even more fussy than me about getting things right. I don't like winging it at all!

    Compressor
I liked the Spectracomp, although I did not like 1 pretty key thing..... it was pretty noisy certainly compared to my Keeley. Do others find the same?
The only time I have found it noisy I have to say is when I have cranked the make up gain. Simply because the SC has way more gain on tap than pretty much any other compressor I have ever tried. I think the thing with triple band compression, due to the way it works, it's more transparent than other full-band compressors for example. Thus, if you want the multi band setting to sound squishy, you'd need 'more compression' overall, then maybe push the make-up gain more to get the volume back up again. So, to sum up, for squishy hard compression effects, go for a full band compressor, for invisible 'mastering' of your bass tone, go for subtle triple band compression.
  10.
My 62 RI from Fender Japan. Nitro finished. Fender Japan P Bass 62 RI VSP by kempy535, on Flickr
Is this a refinish then as the VSP's were poly finished. Either way, it's a beauty, congratulations!

    Compressor
What price range?
A 5 second google search suggests around £80-£85 which is an utter bargain for its capability.
  12.
Super excited for this now! Took them long enough to get John to play it!
Love a bit of Karnivool me! Great play through, especially interesting to hear without vocals on this track.
  13.
My much loved and well gigged AB I. Currently in the for sale forum in a probably misguided attempt to raise some cash. Every time I play it I think, no I won't sell it after all... https://www.dropbox.com/sc/us4v6rg78diq6e5/AAC2tvg85trpJBplyS22zb_ua
I find myself in the horrible position too. My Dingwall has just gone up for sale too. This time I won't have the choice of withdrawing it.
  14.
Such as these..? The word you were looking for is, I believe, 'segue'. A common enough mix-up, but always good for a quick chortle.
If I'm honest, I have no clue. I'm sat here, over tired with baby puke drying on my trousers. I'm not sure even what day it is; I've have been entertaining family and a very demanding youngster for the duration. Frankly, I am surprised I managed to get this far.
  15. Yeah, pretty much agree with everything said so far. It depends on the content of the song. Last year I had three dep gigs together for three different bands with only a few songs that were the same between them. I learned all three sets in a month totalling some 80 odd tunes. What made these songs more difficult to pick up is that one band strung the whole set together via medley versions and interesting musical segways, so not really learning straight from a known source. As a rule, I don't go in with 'nearly right' bass lines ever.
  16. Awwww! Shame it didn't work out for you personally, I know that you'd put a lot of effort in to going for the F#. I'd been following your thread with interest. Great bass and I am sure it will be snapped up quickly!
  17. I like that! It really is Sod's Law... and by coincidence I used to play in a relatively successful metal band called Sod's Law when I was on lead guitar duties!

    Compressor

The TC Electronic SpectraComp must be one of the most advanced compressor pedals on the market today for us bass players but with only one knob it has got to be the simplest to operate. I'd highly recommend this one if you want simple. With a very easy to use app later on, you can also mimic the operation of all the well known compressors with this pedal and still have only one knob to worry about on stage.
  19.
Nice looking bass and very very light for a 5 stringer glwts
Thank you! It is indeed very light - I should also add that this bass has zero neck dive. None, nada. I posted a video ages ago demonstrating but I can't find it. I'll do another mebbe. Speaking of videos, I've added two that feature this bass so everyone can see it in action. I am obviously looking for a quick sale and invite discussion via PM from anyone interested. Every time I edit my post above, the videos disappear, which is really frustrating. So I am putting them in this post instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkzxSWhPsHo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJeE0b2rKHo&t=501s

  22.
I haven't tried them specifically... because I went and got one of these - http://www.ebay.co.u...L0AAOSwhcJWHpSk and 8 eneloop rechargeables. A lot cheaper. Note - I did resolder the cables to change the polarity to be pedal friendly - but you could use an adapter to do the same. Last ages - it's great.
Exactly what I did. I've only charged it twice and I bought it last year ha ha!!
  23.
Just want to make a point about the Harris, it's got a rather Chunky neck, so if you're not a fan of that style of neck then I'd rule it out. It also depends on if you like West Ham or not
Point well made! Yes, it's thick front to back isn't it! Maybe not such a good choice... which would also rule out the Mike Dirnt too! Apologies, I wasn't thinking!
  24.
Fender Nate Mendel is thinner, not sure about the 60's bit.
Yes a great pick and the first I thought of. This, the Steve Harris and the Mike Dirnt current models all have the slimmer 40mm nut which would be the one I'd go for. Not quite as small as the Jazz 38mm nut but still wide enough to feel like a P. Nate's signature model is crafted on his own favourite 70's P bass. I forget the year, possibly '71.
  25. I've still not made it all the way from sunny Nawwwwfulk to Bass Direct yet, so my purchases have been over the 'phone. Now, of course, due to my job I am in a fairly good position to know what it is I am after, but even so, Mark always has time to discuss to make sure the purchase is right for me. On one occasion (or possibly more actually) we talked about kit that would be a suitable alternative and I appreciated the strong case for both choices from Mark which helped me further with my decision. Every single time the item has arrived exactly when they stated and that's pretty much next day delivery if it wasn't a Friday order. I've also received some great second hand deals too with the same attention to detail. Both of my Dingwall basses arrived new from Bass Direct as well as various Bergantino items, the B|Amp being a favourite.
