Fender Deacon-ification MkII. Late 70's - Mid 80's era.
That looks really nice - Am I right in thinking there is no finish of any sort on the body??

Lovely, I've though about doing the same thing in the past; I love the 'stripped' look on Fenders, and I'm very fond of Deacon's sound and playing, along with Geezer Butler, who I think had a similar looking bass. I have the same question- what is the bass finished with, if anything? I has a nice colour and satin look to it!
Thank you! It looks naked doesn't it? Mr Shuker is a bit good isn't he? That's a very hard wearing yet thin satin finish! I've just been playing it this morning through my amp in my studio space and it was all about the smiles! Just a rich resonant sound, yet backing off the tone control gives me a tasty vintage thump! -

Unfortunately, I don't have a couple of the original Martin blue 'H' hard plectrums that John used to use to stick in to my pickguard, but I have a super nice couple of D'addario plectrums that are kinda the same colour! I'm very pleased with the sound of the bass and that's got to be to do with the Dimarzio Will Power P pickup, although I would have preferred to have a pickup with the pole pieces on view maybe? - I *may* go for a vintage bridge at some point too, but I really like the Gotoh one on board at the moment. Finally, I must add a huge thank you to Jon Shuker over at ShukerGuitars.co.uk for helping me as he sourced the premium Alder and expertly sculpted in to a classic P body to match the Fender neck I had already. I've been tweaking the set up over the last week or so and it's sounding every bit like a great Precision Bass should. Great mids, a nice heft in the sound and it resonates like a beast! Hope you like the pics! Dooood -

I've just uploaded some pictures to my Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/danveallbassist/ If I can insert them here too I will! -
The pupil / tutor relationship can work both ways. I've just heard from my Skype tutor, and I'm in trouble. When I first met her, she was into jazz and funk mainly; she informs me she's just joined a Ska Punk band and blames me entirely for leading her astray and introducing her to The Sex Pistols (music of, not the band members). This makes me feel goooood. :-)
Yes!!! For my own selfish pleasures, I get students to bring me songs they want to learn, so I get new music on a regular basis!
Do not use a TV for this, get a 4k monitor. TV and monitors have quite different design priorities. You might think oh its just x number of dots but ... no this is far from the case, the screen panels and the processing electronics are often quite different and generally one of them will do at best an OK job of what the other one does. Use a TV as a monitor an you will often have to contend with pixel bleed, picture cropping, out of what colour balance and various other things (because TV/movies settings for colour look rubbish for general computer use and vice versa). I mean you wouldnt buy a guitar amp to use for bass would you . I have one of these http://www.ebuyer.co...rxDEaAiOP8P8HAQ its absolutely awesome. Not need to wall mount it, just slap it on your desk, the pixel density is about the same as a high speck 27" - its just way bigger.
Thank you, I'll take a look at the link. My current screens are a pair of 27"ers.
well if you don't get any hum issues it's easily worth it, bigger screen means less eye strain when you're getting into details
You are SO right!! - I'm running dual screens already here which is brilliant, especially for magazine review writing, composing etc, so I won't be at all upset about having to upgrade to MORE screen ha! *When my bank account allows.

Don't expect a reply from the UK distributor Selectron! They've never answered a single email I've sent. Depending on what cable you need, you might find something similar on eBay as the connectors are often used in computing and control systems.

Thank you for the reply!
I used to have a big HD TV running in my studio as the large editing screen. It was really useful, but did seem to interfere with guitars somewhat in terms of hum
Hmmmm, good point, I hadn't thought of that!
Since I moved studios I've gone back to my small computer monitors. To be honest the fact that people could see what I was doing to manipulate their performances and "tones" turned out to be a significant hindrance for some sessions IE people wouldn't let me fix their mistakes or replace their crap line-6 combo distortion with one of my amp sims, etc.
I think I'll be safe as I tend to remote record from here so only my own wrong notes to fix ha ha!!
-
Just a quick question really: (I believe that) my MacBook Pro supports connecting to a 4K TV. Does anyone else use a standard TV as a 'large' monitor, especially with regard to music software? Even 1080P - Just planning on what to do with my studio space and quite like the idea of mounting a large monitor to the wall later in the year. I think it might be quite a cool inclusion with my big ole studio monitors either side!
She's playing an actual violin at the time, so no! ....
Ah ha ha ha! Sorry! I assumed it were a violin part on the keyboard! - Ooops, more coffee needed here!
-
Can your keyboard player do 'splits' on his deck? Most modern keyboards are capable of setting up to do a note hold on one split whilst soloing elsewhere. Could be a possibility?
-
Been investigating this possibility but I think the bits the heads hang from on my current stand are plastic not metal...
Ah yes!! I can see that being a problem!
I'll double what Andy said Dan . I've got a pair of Epifani 210 UL's if you want them on a borrow until your new cabs arrive
I'm genuinely touched by all the kind offers! Thanks Paul! Ok, so the BT2 is definitely for sale then! With official Barefaced cover and hopefully I can get enough funds together for the FR love! Collect it this weekend if you like, right now even ha ha!! This is one hell of a cabinet!

I'm listening for a second time now and am really enjoying picking through all the sounds! - Loving that P Bass sound - That's the Roland?? Really? I also have massive GAS for a fretless .. and the fretless synth too. And a Vigier And the Roland Dammit!

Did I miss the post where we were told that Helix can drive a power amp directly?

The harsh realities of wanting one item means that the opportunity cost is that another thing I love has to go to reach the desired financial threshold to purchase. I am hoping that I can get a pair of Barefaced FR800 cabinets (essentially splitting my BT2 in two halves) which would be ideal for my new band. Of course there is often a catch that I am trying to work around. I need the BT2 for gigs, but I can't receive the FR's until I've paid for them. No cabs, Dood looks silly not being able to gig. So, at this point, I am trying to figure out what to do, but the BT2 is up for sale as long as I can work something out with the FR's. I'd say it is immaculate and it comes with the official Barefaced protective cover. I would absolutely not sell the BT2 if I could afford to keep it. I am however a professional musician and that translates to being a pauper most of the time ha! Shipping could prove difficult owing to the size of the cabinet, but I'd favour collection anyway with a view to travel for fuel money within a reasonable distance. All the details here: http://barefacedbass.../Big-Twin-2.htm And a great big picture to boot: P.S. The minute I sniff a chance of keeping this, I'll withdraw.
Dood - you have a reliable little birdy! I got an email last night from Gear4Music saying that delivery of the B3n had been delayed! So I called them this morning to explain I had only paid them a £25 premium over Thomann as they said they had it in stock. They were really good about it and have price matched Thomann and will chase up their supplier for me.
I've not heard that the UK distributor even has them yet, but that said, I've not asked recently..lol... I do know, as JimFist has rightly pointed out, the US do have theirs shipping.

You may remember my previous Deacon Bass incarnation HERE . Apologies for the missing pictures. I seem to have deleted them by mistake. I will see what I can do about reinstating those. Sadly the Bass in question found a new home. I would dearly love to buy it back, but alas being a Dad again means that I am mainly selling things these days. Still, an opportunity arose to do another version for a reasonable price so I thought I'd make a thread about it. The first version as you will have seen was the 1986 onward era where John Deacon appeared with his nice shiny P Bass with a black finish and gold hardware. Very tasty indeed! Deaconification Mk1 was a close replication of the bass (yeah, I know I should have fitted the Schaller 3D bridge in the end!) in question. So, here goes. In the latter part of the 70's and I don't have an exact date, John Deacon removed the sunburst finish from his two main Precision basses. His 'main instrument' had a 70's TV logo (I believe it was called) and that is the one (and the look) I am copying. A bit of a Wetton thing going on too! Here's a few pictures of the man himself: And shortly I will be posting some pictures of my own MkII all complete!
Or one of these...
Ah yes! ha ha! I forgot about the Hamm bass!
