I have my suspicions , I'm going mount a camera above his amp
Know any farmers? An electric fence will be of use round the amp controls too

Has anybody tried bronze strings on an electric bass?
Thanks :-)
Pleasure! Sorry for rail-roading the topic a bit! -
it is odd isn't it - I wonder how influenced we are by American forums and press that the US versions of our luthiers are revered but ours less so. Some of it is the size of marked I guess - but if I compared Sei to Fodera, or overwater to sadowsky would I find a massive difference in the end product?
Having compared, the answer is no. We have some ASTOUNDING talent over here in the UK. That said, like the US, I am sure we have plenty who are also over-hyped too.
Do you know if they work well with the pickups on electro acoustics? I have been after some decent strings for mine.
Yes, mine is an electro with a Fishman system. I'd expect it to anyway as piezo pickups work on vibration rather than the material that the string is made from. -
Nah, but they're not 18,000 good old British Valve or Trace watts
Ha ha ha!!! Ahhh yes, those heady aromas of smoke filled venues where sweat condensation dripped back down on to our heads under hot lights and people went home with mild tinnitus after a night out. Those British Valve Watts... Now, where are my IEMs?

Slightly related to the topic, 'the other way round', has anyone tried the Nickel Bronze Acoustic Guitar strings from D'Addario? These: http://daddario.com/DADProductFamily.Page?ActiveID=3768&familyid=150 I've got them on my Faith acoustic here. They are (of course) Nickel outer wrap rather than the all familiar Bronze acoustic strings. I gotta say, I *really* like them. -

GK MB series, Markbass F1 or F500 and Demeter also do a 1u amp. Then of course there's a multitude of power amplifiers in the same format. Powersoft being one of the very best with truly astonishing output levels (real RMS not silly over Inflated marketing figures).
Same as always, getting people to list their own preferences probably isn't going to help (although experiences of the process might). Basically, here is a (not necessarily exhaustive) list of popular luthiers in the UK, talk to them all! Yup, ALL of them (unless you totally hate the look of them). [snip] Si
I know Luthiers are not cat-walk models (mostly) but that's a bit harsh dude!
Who else is in Audioplastik? I remember seeing it advertised as a side project of someone I liked, but can't remember who, and had completely forgotten about it until now.
The very talented Dec Burke from *Frost, Darwin's Radio and his own solo band and also Simon Andersson from Pain Of Salvation who is a bonkers good composer and producer. He wrote and played 90% of the keys on the album I think. -

There's a couple of albums, well, an album and an EP that I played on that I really like, but the group isn't known over on these shores. The album, The Book Of Gates is by the band EON and there's an EP bonus disc which is really cool too especially as it has some truly incredible musicians on board. Gavin Harrison, John Macaluso, (me lol) Russell Allen, Amanda Somerville, Kevin Moore, the amazing talents of Elia Monsef and Danny Bou-Maron. Amadeus Awad heads up the project and demonstrates some world class guitar playing. -
.....prog-metallers Threshold (tho Rich did give them a fantasy band shout out just now...). I'll add a video by each in the next post in case anyone's interested in checking them out.
Richard the keyboard player from Threshold added some piano to one of my favourite albums written by two dear friends of mine: In The Head Of A Maniac by Audioplastik. I highly recommend purchasing that one. The second album is going to be awesome! -
On a related topic, I recorded video footage for the Retro One 10 yesterday, there's a picture on my Facebook page and Instagram - @DanVeallBassist
Remind me, when it's upright. . . . which one is the full range speaker?
The one at the opposite end to the port. So stood up, the top speaker is full range.
I always found that it's other people that suck the soul from you.
You aren't wrong there. -
you are most kind my friend
I've had a (very good) spare neck for a bit and as much as I would love to have Jon do me something like a JJB CL bass, my budget doesn't exist, so I asked him about a month ago to do a natural body to go with the bass neck. I'll do a proper thread for it anyway as it's something a bit special for me!
I know this topic has probably been done on numerous occasions but I could do with some advice please. I have a bass that is approx 10lb overall weight and it feels heavy on the shoulder using my usual wide leather strap of almost 4" wide (not much in the way of padding though). My normal strap is fine with my other basses. My question is, what strap do you use or would recommend?.I have heard Comfort Strapp are good? Does anyone use those? Many thanks in advance guys and much appreciated.
Depending on what bass you have, I would most definitely suggest, if you haven't done so already, getting some super light weight tuning keys fitted too. For example, I changed the tuning keys on a precision bass a while back to Gotoh Res-O-Lite machine heads. The bass no longer suffered from any neck dive and on a strap felt many pounds lighter as you don't have a weight at the end of a 'long arm' bearing down on your shoulder.

Is the Barefaced big baby 2 the best small cab?
Dood replied to Prince_phil's topic in Amps and Cabs
I am, perhaps I am just lucky with venues But then again, I am not one of those bassist that does rely on monitors, so perhaps I would notice if I went ampless If you play a distorted tone, you don't really want or need cabs that are crystal clear, toppy or however else you want to refer to it With the Barefaced, I used a cab simulator to 'colour' up the sound somewhat and smoothen things out. I haven't gigged the Bergantino that replaced it yet and wont for a few weeks, from rehearsals I am undecided if I will still use the cab sim or go without. The cab sim will still be used to send signal to FOH though.
I see what you are saying and I agree, if you aren't using some sort of shaping on a driven signal, a tweetered cabinet can possibly sound harsh. I do use 'shaping' only on the drive portion of my bass signal too, that is true however, any effects/direct bass tone I use gets the full range treatment and thus I need the tweeter to be alive and well. I either use a cab sim or DSP EQ. - Like you, the idea being that the tone, where ever it is sent, IEMs, FRFR, FOH, Foldback, whatever, is always the same. The tone is set without the need for a cabinet to be part of the overall sound. -
Competition to promote and encourage aspiring bass players?

Lovely bloke that bends over backwards for young and upcoming drummers. I'm not aware of a bass specific event, but I see no problem with recognising and encouraging new musicians in any form. I was a beginner once and I am proud to say that I spend every day nurturing and supporting new bassists and guitarists. -

Dood replied to Prince_phil's topic in Amps and Cabs
Id love to try one, but all this talk of them being crystal clear puts me off. If players want a PA monitor sound, why bother with a power amp and cab at all?
You are gigging right? He he! So many venues have monitors that just aren't up to the job of handling bass guitar, especially for those bassists who tune anything below Eb lol. So, for me, being able to bring along a 'monitor' that can more than handle the job and that i have some control over takes the pressure off the rattley vocal monitors held together with gaffer tape! I think it's easy to get 'crystal clear' confused with 'toppy'. The BF BB cabinets (for example) only reproduce what you put in to them, like a top quality PA. (Quite the opposite from coloured bass cabinets I suppose, not that there is ANYTHING wrong with that, if that is what is wanted I hasten to add.) So if it sounds toppy, it's not the fault of the cabinet, it's what is being put in to it -
