1.
I don't think a flatter radius makes any difference to how low you can get the action.
A flatter radius with a very low action will make string bends less likely to choke off. (If string bending is your thing of course. It is mine. I like a tone up and sometimes if it will go, a minor 3rd, certainly a major 3rd on the low strings)
  2.
I find they get a bit boring, there's a Gary Grainger PRS bass review by Premier Guitars on YouTube that I tried to watch this morning and I felt that watching the already dry paint on the wall was more interesting!!
Thank you, I'm interested in what everyone has to say, so keep the replies coming.
  3. Are short videos that demonstrate the essentials better than long ones that can contain more detail? Discuss..
  4.
Probably should have explained the thread better. It occurred to me that by the time my tone gets to the business end I've used the controls on my bass, an mxr at my feet and the controls on my amp. It all seems daft.
Yup, it occurred to me that I spent more time using the EQ to get the cabinet in the room to sound nice. If only someone had taken care of that so less EQ'ing was required for the actual bass sound.... hmmmmm, now let me see...

    Feedback for Embra

A flawless transaction with super fast shipping updates and probably the most impressive packing skills I have ever seen - and I thought I was thorough! I think this parcel could have been swam from China and thrown from an aircraft, it'd still have been safe. A++++
  6. I've used Power Amps in my bass rigs for years and years! I love the idea of having a modular rig in much the same way as people do HiFi separates! Ok for sure, these days I like to travel light and technology is such that I've been able to get about with a few pedals etc but once upon a time a 10U rack was almost mandatory for everything I'd gig with ha ha!!! I've had many amps from Yamaha, Peavey, QSC and Powersoft (Arguably one of the Daddies!!) There's loads to choose from out there depending on your needs.
  7.
Most gear demos are bad, and that's being kind. I tend to only rate Ed Friedland and Dan's reviews. Unfortunately Ed seems to have stopped doing reviews.
Being rated side by side with The Bass Whisperer himself! That's really cool
  8.
Often I think this is down to ego, some 'reviewers' like to show off their 'chops' and slap (while a valid form of playing), is an easier vehicle to do this; easier than, say entertaining someone for the duration of the review using more core techniques - e.g. playing solo Jamerson lines with any degree of accuracy Not all reviews feature slap solos as a statement of tone - See Dan Veal's (Aka Dood) reviews - there is another way.
Thank you! I am touched, I really appreciate the kind words. If I had to have a tag line, a mantra if you will, it'd be "No Shred, No Ego." Plenty of people complain about my reviews but I've always endeavoured to get the voice of the bass or equipment over and explain the limitations of the medium we are working with as well. I've recorded over 250 HD videos and written a magazine article for all of them too. I don't think a 2 minute slap-fest is a useful video and if it needs to be 15 minutes long to demonstrate, well, so be it!
  9. I've sometimes used a Fender Micro DI that has a cab simulator built in. Nothing fancy, it's just a sharp EQ that mimics a guitar 4x12. Always sounds good with a passive P bass!
  10. D'Addario and often Balanced Tension sets, but it does depend on the bass: My Shuker has a low F# and I have been testing out a .182 on that but can go as far as .190 should I drop another tone (though these two strings come from another manufacturer, D'Addario DO do a .170). For my 4 stringers, something around .105 for the E feels familiar. Thing is though, it also depends on the design of the string which also affects tension. I really like D'Addario for offering such a wide range of great strings. The NYXL's are superb and I love the FlexSteels on my 80's Fender PJ. There's something nice about the Nickel Balanced Tension strings on my '76 P bass and not forgetting Pro Steels which have that aggressive zing to them for the my 7 string
  11. p.s. - I took this picture up the right way. I see it is upside down now that I have attached it to this post!
  12. Here they are - I've tried to capture an angle that makes the marks clear as possible using a high resolution. I also have not wiped or cleaned the pickups either. Nice Dingwall bolts also included. Interestingly, when in a bass, the strings hide these marks - but here they are for all to see
  13.
Any photos?
Of course! I'll get them uploaded as soon as. It's really not much, but I'd prefer to be as open and honest as possible!
  14. Bump here. Amazing pickups! I'd keep them but I do need to a: Make space b: pay a few bills! offers.
  15. Here's a top notch fixed bridge for electric guitar. It's a spare, never installed and as new. US price is $95 = £75 Not including VAT, Customs and Shipping - so this is a bargain! https://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=166 Price includes delivery (mainland Uk)
  16. I have a set of locking tuning keys that have been on a guitar for not a particularly long time. The guitar is soon to be up for sale, but these tuning keys were taken off a while back and have been stored in their original box. My new guitar has locking keys already so these are surplus to requirements. £50 including delivery (that's mainland Uk, will be more for shipping overseas)
  17.
Just to expand on the above, Ive got a pair of Dingwall pups (including a P-Tone) in my Shukerbird, and they're fantastic pickups in any bass, not just angled/fan fret designs...
Thank you for the kind words! Boxed and ready to go folks!
  18.
Thanks for your concern Dood, it's much appreciated. I'm sure another interesting project will come along eventually.
I feel your pain as it seems I've endured similar over the last year and am chomping at the bit to get creating this year. Yup, I expect it won't be long until you are back on your feet!
