Oh, you can control Logic with an iPad now, which is cool. It's unnecessary, but it's cool.
You could already in 9 matey

I'm subscribing to this one too as I may be in the market for an upgrade. I'm using Roland RH-200 which are really good clarity but I think after many years of heavy use one of the cones has developed a rattle. Or.... it's my ear bones finally shredding! lol!

I for some reason rather like the idea of having question marks as a logo on my cabs!

How would you approach bass if you had only one finger on each hand?
Dood replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
If it were a change that were forced upon me, (through accident for example) then I'd probably start by taking a huge amount of psychological support from the likes of Rick Allen and the awesome Bill Clements who are just two who have rebuilt their playing and career after a loss of a limb. An incredible inspiration to all musicians. -
I cant see what the problem is when guys say they like the look of female bass players. I mean, the playing is all important, but Im a red blooded guy. I cant look at a female bass player and not check her out. You do it without thinking. Obviously a girl who is good looking and talented becomes even more attractive because she has looks AND ability. If Im being sexist, I apologise, but I really am not trying to be. I appreciate the music, but if the girl playing is attractive. All the better
The difference is the way that you have said it. Telling a female musician that you find her attractive and that she is talented is very different from toilet mouthed innuendo and sexist comments that aren't welcomed.
It is undeniable that, for a variety of reasons, girls only make up a small proportion of the people playing musical instruments in beat combos. Girls who do decide to follow this path, be they singers or bass players (and I know a few) or whatever, find themselves not only dealing with a rather masculine environment but also one that tends to attract a rather knockabout and not particularly politically correct sense of humour. IME the girls who prosper tend to be those who are happy to be ‘one of the boys’ and take all of this type of nonsense in their stride! One thing that does confuse me – I always assumed that this was a forum for musicians… or bass players at least! I imagine that most members either are, or aspire to be, gigging musicians. I don’t see how this makes BC a ‘family forum’? To be honest I never really thought that travelling 30 miles in a van to play rock music in some type of (often less than salubrious) licensed premises and getting back home at 3 o’clock in the morning was a particularly family orientated pursuit…
The Basschat audience is made up of people from all walks of life and ages. Therefore Basschat asks users to be mindful and respectful of their fellow users of this community. Whether or not they are at school and have picked up their first bass or a retired weekend warrior - the community spirit should still be respected right? That's what makes the forum family orientated. .
Then you reading me all wrong , dood . I am only drawing attention to the fact that other members - certainly not me - go gaga over any reasonably presentable woman who plays the bass . Why do they do that ? Does playing the bass make a woman more alluring to them ? It certainly doesn't to me , and I am perfectly entitled to feel that way . Humourous remarks aside , the bass guitar is a very male - dominated instrument , and has always been so , to the extent that there must be good reason for that state of affairs . Just like so many other roles on society , which musical instruments people learn to play is more often than not assigned along gender lines . Women are far more likely to be backing singers in a band than bass guitarists , or drummers for that matter . None of this is coincidence , nor is any of it of my making , so why people seem to want to hold me responsible because I have pointed it out , I am not entirely sure .
I'd say that it was your choice of delivery then. I was always taught to be 'aware of your audience' when despatching thoughts and opinions. I'm not suggesting for one minute that you aren't allowed said, but being as this is a family forum that relies on the written word for tone in the absence of facial expression (or other 'real life' clues) as to what you are trying to suggest, your posts have been misinterpreted. Emoticons are useful for example
I agree , too . Time and again on this site people ( males ) go daft over any half - decent looking woman who happens to play the bass . Have they never seen a woman before ? More's to the point , why would them having a bass in their hands make them so irresistable ? I would be seriously put off any girl who played the bass - it's just not very alluring. I like to see a woman with a hoover or a saucepan in her hands rather than a bass , then I know she is in her element and I feel happy for her .
I really hope you're joking. The message you are sending in your posts in this thread are pretty embarrassing - I mean, talk about making women feel unwelcome. Come on, the discussion is about bass tone.

The problem I usually find is that the wedding 'party' do not have the slightest clue what having wedding entertainment entails and why it costs the amount it does. (OK, so i have seen the odd band take the pee too) but, lets take an average 5 piece band as an example. Personally as a professional musician, I set a base-line hourly rate. This takes in to account industry rates and that I am self-employed. (I don't get holiday pay, have to pay NI, tax etc etc etc). Next up, there's the costs involved, be it PA, lights, fuel, sustenance and all the other stuff that needs covering like insurance and travel. The wedding party are expecting a quality experience, so lets not forget outfits too. It sounds silly, but it is still a cost. The really stickler for many a pro musician is when the wedding party ask you to arrive at 10am to set up, sound check and disappear until 8pm - ANd provide entertainment until the last drunkards leave at midnight. If I ask my plumber, electrician, gas man to set up his gear in the morning then come back later, i'd expect to get charged for it. It would stop them from doing any other work. Musicians apparently have nothing else to do with their life lol. Finally, once you have taken that in to account for each member, times the figure by 5 members and you have a rough cost. Any band doing a wedding gig for a few hundred quid is nuts - and to be honest, any wedding party expecting a band to play for 300 quid deserves the level of service that such a low price would deliver. There's more to it than that of course, but this should certainly be a starting point to costing out the entertainment for the couple's special day.

I'm not using flats, but for basses in Drop C or Drop C# I use Daddario's balanced medium set Nickels. The 120 gauge E string is perfect for the low strings with a tension similar to that of a standard tuned 105 I feel. Hope this helps!

I have a wonderful Ibanez EWB205WNE bass for sale that I have owned for a little while now. In all honesty, it has never gigged! I used it for one recording session last year and it rarely comes out for teaching as I usually teach with electric basses. I have my eye on something else so I'm letting this sweeeeeet bass leave the flock! It really is spotless and has new-ish strings on (Though you'll probably want to but your preferred ones on instead) I've included some stock pictures as mine would look exactly the same! - Well, ok so I'm not a pro-photographer though!! body shape EWB Body top Cordia Top back & sides Cordia Back & Sides neck Mahogany Neck pickup Fishman® Sonicore Pickup preamp Ibanez SRTc Preamp with Chorus & Onboard Tuner tuning machine Chrome Die-Cast Machineheads nut & saddles Ibanez Ivorex II™ Nut & Saddle bridge pins Black Plastic Bridge Pins strap button Ibanez Strap Button for Acoustic Guitars rosette Abalone Rosette bridge & fretboard Rosewood Bridge & Fretboard 34" Scale 5 strings Special Pearloid Fretboard Inlay Balanced XLR & 1/4" Outputs http://www.ibanez.co...d=3&series_id=9 - You'll want to try this bass out for sure! The lowest web prices I can find for this one is about £415 which is just nuts so I will see you happy at £360 for this superb bass!

I've had a chat with Scott at Gojira - he's really cool and I like his ideas. I've been meaning to drop a little design of my own over as he's up for taking a look at it.

"The only way, in my opinion, to get a great bass sound is to have a great-sounding bass player.... Oh and a great engineer who knows how to get a good bass sound in the mix. - Just a thought really. I can think of several occasions when I have listened to a track and thought the bass sound was nothing short of magical, but then been surprised at the sound when isolated. The bass player's execution didn't even sound that tight either, having been masked by the kick drum(s) for example. Beauty is in the eye of the be..umm.. cook who doesn't spoil the brew!
