1. There might be a pic still on the Shuker site. I'll have a looksie!
  2.
dood. You're reviews are some of the best out there, they show how it should be done. One in particular got me to part with just shy of £700. I just wish there was a bit more Bass stuff in iguitar. One thing I would ask for tho' is if maybe you could try another Bass along with the Shuker......just for a different flavour like. I'll shall deliver your shiny red apple later sir
Thank you! You're very kind! A point well made and I will see if we can shoe horn a second bass in to amp reviews. Good idea! i really appreciate the feedback!

I laughed out loud when I saw your post asking as you'd already been selected - indeed, congratulations Sarah Thomas, a super book will be on it's way to you soon! Look out for more competitions on the BassChat Blog I will be posting in the future!!!!!!!!
  5. Hmmmm - it's a tough one this but what a great thread - I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts! I'm going to be a bit naughty by suggesting a 'live' album! Queen - Live At Wembley '86 - I used to pour over the rather worn out Betamax video I had of this concert learning songs and 'jamming with Queen'. I learned so much from this one, being a huge Queen fan too. I can't wait for the rerelease of the DVD due in March!! Karnivool - Sound Awake - My playing style has changed a lot recently. I'd have taken my prog' ties from the usual tech (and metal) bands but I'm loving returning back to my more melodic side! Really enjoying this band too!
  6.
Yeah- great cabs, just look a bit too modern for my old school self. Looks a bit naff in the photo but miles better in real life. Bit of vinyl covered wood frame and proper speaker cover.
Looks good to me! Hmmm, maybe a vintage looking Hartke model would be a cool edition to the Hartke line! - You should add a picture to Larry Hartke's facebook page!
  7. I'll hopefully have some news soon, apologies it has been crazy busy these last cuppla weeks. I'm definitely trying them out on my own basses anyway, so absolute least I'll be able to review for you.
  8.
4 X 10 Hartke Hydrive- honest!!
That looks cool, so you made a new front panel that sits on top of the original grill?
  9. I've selected three: 4x10 stand alone, Two 4x10 (I selected 8x10) as a 'big rig'. 2x12 neo for smaller gigs.

Ha ha ha! Sarah! You might want to check your inbox!! Apologies, it has been very busy at Dood Towers that I was unable to make the announcement earlier in the week. However, I've just come on BassChat to let all know who the lucky winner is and saw this thread bumped!
  11.
Yup...it bugs me too. Like Dood says, keep it simple so that you can hear the detail of the bass, amp, pedal etc... By all means, demonstrate the slap tone, but I don't want to hear 10mins of it. I saw a review of a Hagstrom semi-acoustic bass a while back that was slapped to death. Stop it! A - it sounded crap and B - most folks that would buy that bass would not use it for that!
Thank you! Yes, i demonstrate a few different styles and often play similar passages between different instruments in different issues in an attempt to make them comparable. Simple and clear is the way forward i think.
  12.
Personally I think most video reviews of gear are pointless since you are hearing what ever it is though a sound system completely unlike that which it will be actually be used. Not quite as pointless as online reviews of TVs with pictures of the screen however ...
I've certainly always used a real bass amp, mic'd and DI'd for the reviews I talked about earlier as it is important to me to convey the sounds I am hearing in our studio. I agree it's not perfect, but we do our best to make it as real as possible.
  13.
One effect per string?
Then it's def' not enough for my basses he he he he he he he!!!
  14. Oh - I forgot to say - I've blogged about the PF800 and have posted a competition link to win one too.
  15. I think a lot of the companies doing D Class heads are aiming for this new output power. I guess that it's the next step up in the evolution of the technology vs size war. Genz Benz and Gallien Krueger both have 800W-ish heads as well as TC Electronic's RH750 going for a similar output power. I think it's handy to have that headroom should you need it. With ref to the PF500 'breaking up' - it's the preamp section that is driving a bit. Sadly, D Class power amp distortion is actually pretty nasty - if it's breaking up, it doesn't do it nicely like a valve amp. I guess with the PF800, it will sound the same when the preamp starts getting dirty - you'll just be able to turn it up louder to hear the preamp doing it's biz!
  16.
There he is!
Sorry it took my time to see the batman/thundercats signal in the sky!!
  17.
dood is the man to ask re all things Hartke...
ha ha!! I'd just popped in to the thread too take a look! You beat me to it!
  18. I may come over a little biased here by posting my love for Hartke but truthfully I've been playing Hartke gear for well over 17 years now on countless gigs all over the place and it has been brilliant. I've tried and used most of the current range, my favourites still being the XL speakers and the Kilo head. I'd be happy to chat about any of the kit. I've got a lot of respect for Hartke UK who are an example of excellent customer service - and the fact that you can call up Mr Larry Hartke on his mobile anytime is just brilliant! If he has time, he'll have a chat! Dood

  20.
Oh, and there will be free lanyards for all the lovely BC folk who come to the stand and meet other BC folk. Don't worry, you don't have to stay long, or talk to Dood.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!! - Last year, honestly, I think I played about 3 basses tops all weekend as I spent most of the show nattering! Does my Lanyard have a health warning attached?

And in all that I forgot to post that I really wanna try out that compressor!

Doug is a super super nice chap! I've been very lucky to spend a weekend in his company, playing, jamming, working and found that he is a total gentleman. He really knows his gear too! He let me get my paws on that very bass for a play too, but for me, most excitingly was watching him pick up my Shuker and go to town on it with his inimitable style and chops! What a dude!
  23. Yes, I seem to recall someone on BC doing this, though maybe with a different power amp. I would assume that using this kind of 'channel strip' rig you'd be after something clean and relatively ehem 'flat' response for a cabinet?
