Cheers Jimryan! - I'll probably go for the EQ too once I've sold both pedals I don't need. If yours arrives before I order then yes, I'd love to hear how you get on! These lil dudes are great eh!

I'd add the GK MB800 - the FET preamp of this model does drive a bit, but mainly, it's a very loud amp! My ole Markbass F1's couldn't keep up and I used the GK when it's not convenient to use the Hartke Kilo - which sadly, despite being a massive 1KW, is neither small or 2Kg! Lol -
Cool! Thanks Jaydentaku! Angel, yes I think as much as I would love the Cordoba, I think I might have to settle for the Yammy. The thought of seeing a £200 Uke hitting the deck at a workshop is a bit much to stomach verses a £50 one! One of each you say? oh dear! Need to sell stuff!

I've commented my thoughts about the three pedals I bought recently on the other Mooer thread currently running. I think for the money they are brilliant and I am in no doubt that I will end up with two or three on my gigging board. Right now I am using the Pure Boost actually as a preamp pedal, not so much a boost, just because it has such a lovely FAT low end! I'm thinking about getting the EQ and possibly the Rage distortion too. The higher gain distortions I will definitely blend though, as that's how I have been running my drives for many years now.

great bass players with terrible technique, are there any?
Dood replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I have shocking technique, but I'm not a great bass player or famous.... my fingers are all over my fretboard like tramp over a bag of chips...having fingers like fat bangers that I've broke more times than I can rememer doesn't help me I'm sure....I look at the great smooth players and they seem to have fingers like racing snakes, all thin, long and bendy. ....I used to be a real golf nut, there were some fantastic pro-golfers who had poor swings (golf technique), more than one have had golf coaching to try and improve their swings only to find it cost them a lot of games and a lot of money...even the great Jack Nicklaus never had the best of swings, but didn't hold him back... I was wondering if the same exists in the world of the great bassists...?
For a humorous response to your question, if all YouTube comments were to be believed, then all bass players on the planet seem to have something wrong with their playing! -
Hi! You can use either an active monitor (be that a P.A type or even studio monitors) or a bass amp, or a seperate power amp and speaker, or a combo (even a keyboard combo will suffice too) - You have quite a few options there. I think the manual details some options too. The one thing I would suggest though, is that depending on what you choose to plug in to, you take a look at the configuration menu on the Pod. You can tell the Pod what kind of amplification you have connected to and it will set up the sounds on board to suit. (Especially important if you are using amplifier sims). The XT Pro has 1/4" outputs that you can connect with standard guitar leads as well as a USB connection and Earphones.

Hi all! When I'm not thrashing the pants of my 7 stringer, I work with a youth music group project. We use a wide range of instruments on the project and I have to say, I have found myself spending more time messing around with a Ukelele for fun. I have to say though, I kinda wanted something with 6 strings but about the same size as a tenor Uke. Well, after a bit of a google search, it seems said beast already exists! - I'm pretty excited at the prospect of getting one at some point. It'd be great for carrying about as both a useful acoustic instrument for the workshops I run, or indeed for writing and just the enjoyment of something to mess about on which looks pretty cool to me! The Guitalele or Guilele is a bit like a small acoustic guitar, but tuned A to A - the equivalent of having a Capo on the 5th fret of a normal acoustic guitar, so really, very easy to play if you already know guitar. The two main contenders I have found via YouTube appear to be a model by Yamaha and a model by Cordoba. Kinda leaning toward the Cordoba to be honest! I like that cutaway on it. I just wanted to know if any of you play one and what your thoughts are? http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/miniguitars/gl1/?mode=model http://www.cordobaguitars.com/p/guilele-ce

Hi all! Ok! I lept on the super deal advertised recently on BassChat to buy discounted Mooer pedals. I chose to try out (before hearing them on Bass) the Pure Boost, Green Mile and Blade Metal Distortion. I've ran them through my normal rig and pedal board to see which I like best and have decided (as per my review thread) that one can stay and two are up for sale. Both are brilliant pedals, absolutely brand new. I took them out of their boxes and tried them with my studio speakers and also my bass rig to select which I want to keep. They are in perfect condition and I am giving you exactly the same deal I got mine for, which of course is a bargain!!!! - You'll see they are about £50 on eBay. I will let you have both together delivered for £50! Ok, so my 'not so technical' testing has had the following results! Brief: Attempt to use small form factor pedals in place of 'Boss size' to make room on my pedal board for more stuff! I have tested: The Pure Boost in place of my normal EQ pedal. The Green Mile as an 'always on' option for adding mild dirt to my signal. The Blade Distortion pedal to replace my Boss Metal Zone for 'all out distortion'. The results are as follows: The Pure Boost is really good. I'm not sure what the centre for the bass control is, but for adding depth, a small adjustment goes a long way. I've also seen a way of attenuating my Zoom B3 signal slightly using the PB too. So this one stays. The Green Mile is actually brilliant and I am very tempted to keep it, but I kinda wanna try out the 'Rage' pedal now, for just a touch more drive. So, this lil puppy is going up for sale now. The Blade Distortion is brutal, but I bought the wrong pedal. I should have gotten the 'Rage' pedal I think. As I use a loop pedal, I need to pull all the highs down whilst not affecting the lows. Gnarly noises in a small box, but this one is going up for sale with a view to getting the Rage instead. Overall review: Metal cases, built very well indeed I am sure they'll have a long life on any pedal board. I think the foot switches feel positive with a good solid clunk when you push them. The controls have a quality feel to them with no rubbing or need for undue force to turn. Yeah! Really like them! - I might still get that little bass EQ as well. - If I get a micro-looper *and* the Mooer EQ, I will sell my Boss LS-2 and Bass EQ pedal. So, off to advertise the pedals in the MarketPlace now. EDIT: Here! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192019-mooer-micro-pedals-green-mile-and-blade-metal-distortion-l28-each/page__pid__1869562#entry1869562
Cheers for that Dood. Possibly adding that to the list of incoming Mooer's as soon as sanity disappears for the evening.
See above, lol!
Thanks Dood. In all the clips, the Green Mile sounds very tame and soft to me, although that's not necessarily bad if you want gentle dirt.
Just about to run it on my pedal board this eve!
Ages ago a bcer drew me this to explain making a reversible adapter for running EMGs at 18v. Can't remember who for credit:
I've seen 'homemade' adaptors for sale on ebay too and indeed, they are the same as your diagram. A really easy way to boost to an 18v circuit - and as you say, reversible too!
Thanks Dood. I'm tempted by the green mile for guitar use - it seems to be a nice soft grainy overdrive, rather than a sharp-edged and crunchy one - and I'd also like the black secret Rat clone. I took the chorus along to a music practice tonight (come back to find it has finally sold this evening) and it actually sounded pretty good in a big environment with more volume. I'll shortly order an elec lady & trelicopter and am debating a compressor and one of the above drive pedals. I also want a couple of Joyo Tech 21-style preamp pedals for recording direct, probably the American and California. There aren't many pedals that will do the early Boogie style tone like *some* clips of the california have managed. The American can do a nice clean Fenderesque amp tone. There's quite a few clips of these pedals but many of them sound muddy and messy because they're being used as simpe, dirt pedals instead of preamps.
I have to say, I was hoping for a wee bit more gain out of the Green Mile. It's really nice and I think that it's intended use of driving the front end of a guitar amp (especially with valves) it will do a great job. Standalone for me on bass, it *could* be a little tame for my needs, but as I say, that will depend on further testing! - Tonally though, It's nice
-
Gareth, I've found that the 12 o'clock setting for the tone controls doesn't appear to be exactly flat. But a small turn clockwise adds boost very quickly! I set mine with the gain control at zero then used the volume control as my boost. I have been able to clip the pedal with my active EMG pups (which are already very hot) in this setting. Winding the gain control up and the volume down, I was able to distort the pedal gently, but I have to say, it wasn't a nice crunch, more of a 'bass valve drive'. Headroom, there appears to be a softening, a bit like a sovtek preamp valve when you get close to the pedal limits, but actually that's quite nice. I like the frequency centres for the two tone controls, though I'm not sure what they are. I'd take a punt on a shelving bass control of around 100Hz and maybe around 4Khz for the treble. A guess mind!!! I'd happily use this pedal as an outboard preamp for a passive bass. Yeah, I like it. Possibly keeping this one. Less sure about the Blade though. I think I should have thried the Rage pedal. The green Mile *will* need running with my rig to make a decision on that too. The Boss Metal Zone is still a keeper at the moment.
-
I did it on one of the Spectors. There is a difference but it is not massive. Perhaps there was a little more headroom but nothing substantial. IMO of course.
I'll go with that - Certainly I noticed more headroom and iirc, I had more punch from my slapped bass low end- again, probably due to having the extra headroom. Oh and if nothing else, you'll have waaaay more time before your batteries run down low enough for the preamp to stop working completely. i.e. if the preamp can no longer function below 6v (for example) then it'll take longer to get down there from 18v than it would from 9v.
-
I've had a massive 30mins so far to try them out. I bought the Pure Boost, Green Mile and Blade distortion. I haven't ran them in the loop of my LS-2 yet, but i initial testing suggests that the Pure Boost will stay and the Green Mile for subtle drive. The jury is out on the Blade at the moment unitl I have put it in to my pedal board signal path. It's difficult buying pedals having not been able to test them first - certainly a leap of faith really. Any pedal that isn't specifically 'my thing', i will offer up on BC for sale with the same huge discount I got. If neither distortion works out, then I will get a micro blender for my current distortion then sell my LS-2 as well.
