Here's a big thank you for sending me some patch cables - very kindly for free. A thoughtful gesture very much appreciated!
Does anybody know if the Source Audio Hot Hand works on this? Thanks
I'm not sure, but i'd expect it to - and it'd be pretty amazing if it does!
How come everyone here loves the B3 and think its really good while the demo vids on youtube of this multifx (including the official zoom vid) all sound like crap?
because YouTube videos don't account for the person's ability to actually know how to make a decent video - and thus, make the pedal sound rubbish lol! The official video leaves a lot to be desired too. If I had the spare time I'd do a decent video myself. I even floated the idea with Guitar Interactive Magazine.
What you want to avoid doing is showing up to a lesson without having even looked at the stuff you were given the week / fortnight before because of other commitments. Your teacher will have two choices in that situation, make you practice the previous lessons stuff (while charging you £25+) or move on to another aspect of playing knowing that you'll then have two lessons worth of practising to do. You'll either get fed up because you're paying top money but just struggling through the same stuff each lesson and not really progressing, or you'll soon end up with a daunting amount of stuff to work through and it'll get you down. I'd say aim for weekly or fortnightly. Leave it 3 weeks or a month and you might find you're not practising at all until a few days before the lesson.

The important thing is to make sure you've done sufficient practice before your lesson. 15 minutes every day is better than a 4 hour session once a week!

As a tutor, these quotes ring true. As much as you don't want it to, life generally 'gets in the way' and you decide to practice tomorrow, but maybe the day after.. And so on. I'd rather teach 30mins a week instead of a 2 hour session once a month. It's actually waaay more work for me, but the results for younger students is easy to see! I want my students to enjoy coming to my lessons and that means helping them as best as possible to see results. Example, you wouldn't go to the gym every week and feel or look no different. Regular practice I feel works and once a week for an hour is a minimum for beginner to intermediate, but I teach 30 minute sessions for my very young ones or absolute beginners.

That's sounds mighty interesting! - If I had the cash I'd love to test the theory, just to have something a bit different!

This afternoon, I roughed out the signal chain for my new 'mini rig' pedal board. I'd been looking for a solution so that I can leave my usual rack gear at home and this compact set up is looking like it'll cover most of my needs. The Ampeg BSP distortion preamp is staying home* and my MXR M80 is being retired, though to be honest I hadn't used it for ages anyway! I've still got my TC Electronic Nova System. I like that alot - but with the B3 here now, I'm going to see if I really need the Nova too! - I'd be tempted to try out an iPad driven pedal, such as iStomp for extra flexibility but not required yet! So, the mess in the picture above is before I have dropped some custom foam in to the pedal board. I've ordered up a Planet Waves pedal board kit so I can do custom cable lengths. If I was to ever be a bit OCD (heh, aren't well all) then tidy rack systems and pedal boards is where I'm at! Finally, I will probably install a stereo DI to feed to PA FOH / recording devices and put in a two button foot switch for amp channel switching should I need it. Oh, you may be wondering why I've got a tuner in there too, despite the B3 having a perfectly good one.. well, my geeky side loves flashing lights lol - but actually it makes for a great mute button for changing basses too. This will unbelievably after over 20 years of playing bass, my first 'proper' pedal board as I have always used rack mount effects and MIDI foot controllers. edit: *The LS-2, graphic and MT-2 are taking the place of the BSP. Not perfect but actually a close match to the type of distortion produced if you keep an eye on EQ settings.
So if rigidity of the cabinet is the goal, why is nobody using ultra lightweight aluminium honeycomb panels? I can vouch for the rigidity of this stuff and you can get it foam filled so no nasty voids to excite.
Hmm, I don't know JPJ - I'd hazard a guess at cost and difficulty to machine? Wood is easier to throw in to a CNC and cheaper. Wow, that'd be a pretty ultimate Hartke cabinet! Aluminium cones and aluminium cabinet! but that's one too many 'alooominums' for my liking! heh, ey Larry!!

Reaper! Actually love this DAW more than any other.

Sonuus also do the I2m 'instrument to midi' USB interface. It even works with the iPad. Mono in, MIDI oit via USB and also acts as a high quality audio recording interface and is physically very small!

I'm not sure the project will go ahead after all. I'd really hoped to make much more of a weight saving than the suggested figures in this thread. If i coud have saved 10Kg or more then the cost would have made it worth it for my poor back. Next option would be 2x 2.5XL cabs, but they aren't made any more.

It's worth mentioning that the MB800 has a completely different preamp section. An all FET design for a more valve-like character - for example soft break up. Here's my review, http://www.iguitarmag.com/magazine-editions/iguitar-magazine-issue-10/reviews/gallien-krueger-mb800/ If you click on the magazine link, there's a video too.

Pleasant transaction sending my TC compressor off to a new home! No problem
- certainly not from being nicked from the car or stage - now heres the killer bit - unless supervised
I think there is an amount of reasonability here. No-one can sit and nanny gear - but if you put your gear in the car in view and then naff off for a couple of hours for a pint, then to be honest, I think you are asking for trouble anyway, unless you live in the quaint village of honestville! As for gear being left on stage - a stage manager, bar staff or venue security appointed to look after - 'keep an eye on gear' I understand is enough. This varies from insurer to insurer, but check before you take out a policy. Dropping your gear off in an empty venue and no one knowing the gear is likely to mean that your insurance won't cover either. - I was with Pavillion for a while and they stated that if gear was in a parked, secured vehicle with items out of sight and unrecognisable then they would cover in the case of a break in. This was lucky for me as I have an estate car with a pull over boot cover and some heavy blankets that could disguise the same of any guitar shaped bags. They were happy with this and therefore I was covered. If you have a van with blacked out windows and no markings to suggest it is a band wagon, then , again you are covered. Advertising 'Bob's Disco' down the side of the van is probably akin to just writing 'free lucky dip' on the doors. The insurance company probably won't pay out, I'd guess.
A bit of thread resurrection here... To those of you who are long time members can you answer the following? I'm particularly interested in the legal support side of stuff that the MU can offer, particularly where they say that they will check contracts etc for you. So If I were to receive and complete a recording/distribution contract etc, the MU would double check over the contract before I send it to ensure I haven't missed something and that someone isn't trying to shaft me - Thats my understanding. What I want to know is, that if the contract includes multiple people, for example a band which I am a part of, would the MU still offer this service to me if I was the only person named on the contract that was a member, or would every member of the band named on the contract need to be an MU member before they would help out? Cheers folks! Shep
I'm not sure Shep, but give 'em a bell - they really are a friendly bunch! I renewed the other day and had a great chat for waaaay longer than necessary to sort my subscription out!

Presumably you'd plugged in the output of one straight in to the other in a series chain? Just to mix it up a bit try this if you have a mixer or way of mixing two signals together. This will give you the distortion and fuzz in parallel with each other AND a clean signal throughout. It should, with a bit of tweaking sound pretty rich! Bass > M80 input M80 output > mixer channel input 1 M80 parallel output > input of fuzz Output of fuzz > mixer channel input 2 mixer output > bass amp. You can use a boss ls-2 pedal as a mixer too. Set both input levels flat as well as any EQ to start with. The blend on the m80 to 50% when using the drive channel. Have fun!

Yup, horses for courses! - There are times when I want to do ridiculous Jerry Donahue string bending, other times I want a rock solid string for fast pick work. It depends on what music I am playing.
