BTW, the entire reason why drivers were placed horizontally in the first place was to accomodate a wide amp, first in combos, then in separates. No consideration was ever given to the dispersion issue because the amp designers weren't aware of it.
I think that's the answer everyone was actually wanting. Ya know, 'if 4x10s aren't so good, why have them.' I also appreciate that speakers of yore were also not very efficient nor powerful, so multiples of speakers were required to produce the volume. That therefore meant placing them horizontally as well as vertically in to nice neat stackable square boxes.
Will slide-rules & measuring tapes be provided alongside the gaffer tape and sticky buns?
Going wildly off topic, on the way home from rehearsal this evening I stopped off to do some shopping and spotted these really tasty sticky iced buns. I've not bought one for years and years. Childhood even. Then I read this! It's a sign!!! Ermmm.. Of something... Or other,...

I would love to see this discussion put in to action. I mean, maybe we should arrange a bass day type meeting with a set of cabinets of different configurations in a room with say a couple of amps and some source material - say, recordings of a Bass guitar that can be repeated for each test. THEN have some techie guinea pigs up front to describe and demonstrate these 'issues' accurately. We'd all be able to have a clear understanding of what these polar problems and phasing problems sound like. Right?
Ring the shop, ask to speak to the manager tell him your wife bought you the wrong guitar and could he order the correct one for you. Id be amazed if he wouldn't exchange it under those conditions. If your wife bought it online then you are entitled to a full refund. It seems crazy taking a hit on it.
+1 I believe consumer law also states you have a minimum of 7 days to return an item - some shops even state 14 days for a no quibble return. It was an honest mistake and the bass is pristine as new. Name and shame the shop if they give you any trouble chap!
The scroll-patch buttons, I guess would be fairly easy to mod. I did this to an old Zoom pedal, just opened it up and soldered wires to the bottom of the switch contacts, then routed these to a couple of momentary footswitches.
Thanks chap! Yup, that appears to be exactly what the YouTube guy had done with the G3 - fitted a socket to the casing and ran a box with a couple of momentary push buttons in. I won't be doing that yet, my pedal only arrived yesterday brand new!

Will upload pictures in a bit, I guess I'm probably going to regret selling this as it's easily the best compressor pedal on the market for features. I'll paste in all the tech details in a bit, but for now - excellent condition, very well looked after. £70 + £5 towards insured mainland shipping http://www.tcelectro...ovadynamics.asp NDY-1 Nova Dynamics Features FOUR compressor pedals and TWO Noisegate pedals in one unit, infinitely configureable!

2 compressor modes: studio (multi-band 3 way) & stomp (full range)
Noise gate (frequency dependent)
Dual engine design
Dry blend – parallel compression (Perfect for bass players)
Flexible routing
Auto input gain adjustment
Precise gain reduction meter

High quality dual engine compression and noise gate made stompbox simple. Packed with never before seen functionalities Nova Dynamics sets new standards to floor-based dynamics control. Its dual engine design offers a variety of setup and control options that allow you to tailor Nova Dynamics to fit your rig. Use the two engines for different compression settings or switch between stomp compression for that classic "squash" and TC's advanced multiband compression for subtle, studio-style dynamics control. You can even split the two engines in Nova Dynamics and have a compressor in front of your amp and noise gate in your amp effects loop for true noise reduction of high gain signals. The Dry Blend feature lets you blend your dry signal in with the compressed signal for optimized attack with no eating into the dynamics while the automatic input gain adjustment on both engines brings perfect settings for e.g. both a Strat and a Les Paul at the flick of a switch. Brings control to any guitar rig..

One reason that these discussions return regularly is that listening to a bunch of 4x10's or 1x15's together and comparing them is relatively easy. You just go to a local practice room and fiddle with the battered old behringer / trace elliot / peavey / Hartke they have in there. Take you own cab and profess that your own cab is better. However, when a thread starts about Polar patterns, dispersion and frequency response of various cabinets, people are being led to believe what they are reading but not actually being able to test the theory in reality - because you can't just pop down to your local studio / shop to compare your little 4x10 to the latest '10 way, flat response, phasio-intollerator with turbo bass ports' a cabinet that improves your manhood as well as making you irresistible to the opposite sex. (Or same sex if that's how you roll). [edit] Not suggesting that anyone's gear is cr@p mind..
His one has been artificially increased, I really have no life.
It's true. A bit of a joke by my wonderful admins who helped me through a particularly difficult part of my life whilst I was suffering from 'TooMuchTimeSpentOnBasschatiosis'. They helped me back on my feet and out to get a life! - Interestingly, I was REALLY bored in my previous career and spent long hours on BC instead of doing work (around the time of the post count incident)... well, actually, I'd finished all the work I was expected to do and was sitting around waiting for the next thing to arrive on my desk. Things are very different now!!

Don't suppose you'd consider another brief loan of your B3, would you..? Looks like it may be an idea for me to get one after all!
Where are you based? If you were nearby, you'd be welcome popping over for a gander.
I think some people don't understand the point of endorsements because they've not found gear that they're happy to settle with and thus assume that people that want/have endorsements are being greedy/wanting free stuff.
That's one possibility, yes. Certainly I have heard plenty of 'musicians' talking about gear and "wanting to blag free stuff from" a particular company. Yes they might like the gear, but maybe they think that you get free stuff and have to do nothing in return. It doesn't work like that. It's a bit like saying 'oh I got a free iPhone with this new contract!' - ahhhh, no, no you didn't you're still paying for it....
-
Why do endorsed artists have to be well known?
I guess it depends on what 'well known' means to the company. A guitar teacher may only be known in the city he teaches, yet has proven that by the work he does, he connects to hundreds of possible customers regularly. e.g. advertising his business in the local press / at gigs / online / social networks etc. A guitar teacher is expected to be someone who knows gear and if they are using a particular product then students looking up to them are likely to go with their advice. And there are guitar teachers I know who are way better known round here than a lot of bands! - Yet they aren't 'famous' or in the limelight'.

If it's any help, the pots on an EMG harness are 25K. I'm putting in a big thumbs up for the EMG DCs! Awesome pickups!!

Hi, That's kinda my motivation for getting it too. I've just put together a new band that will require some very specific sounds - so I thought I'd grab one of these as it will allow me to scroll through and set up the 'stomp boxes' I will need for each song. However, now that I have it and seen what else it can do, it's going to be a handy practice tool too. I love that it runs on batteries, the USB audio ability will be great. It appears that in the manual, you can power the pedal via the USB port too. I can use the looper and drum machine when I teach too without having to load my laptop and run loops on that. All in all, this box of tricks may well be very useful. The amp sims that I have played with straight in to my studio monitors sounds good and minimal tweaking will get a very useable sound that I can drop in a mix. That's going to be handy for turning up, plugging and and recording demos without any fuss. I like that idea too. It seems to be very well built and those foot switches seem waaay more substantial that the ones on my ole Line 6 X3. The only thing that I would have liked (and I see someone on YouTube has already modded a G3) is the ability to scroll through patches with a one touch foot switch, instead of leaning down and pressing the finger buttons, or going through the mini dance to put the unit in to patch mode. Not a biggy, but a nice to have. Even an external two button controller would be fine. I'll be very happy if the B3 gets the G3 update that allows 6 effects at once.
baws to all this endorsement stuff.... that's more interesting. Loan one to one of the mods to make a video blog review of it or something - you can get it back and we'll all get to hear it/ hear all about it. Find someone small to distribute it, even just mail order only- see what happens.
I've been contacted by a company to do a review of some instruments actually! Great minds and all that kinda thing! I write the Bass Guitar section for a worldwide online guitar magazine, so I've had plenty of great instruments to compare to!
..... people who think they are owed something? ........people might realise the worth of one and not just think they were entitled to one.
It's a sad state of affairs that too many people in this world think that they are somehow owed something and thinking that they should get it for free. Maybe even being discourteous to those who have worked bloody hard for their achievements too. As you say, it's not a right, I think it should be earned like in so many other industries.

Errr... has anyone seen my jaw... it fell off with a thud to the floor and rolled under the table. I'm not sure if I should go looking for it or sit here in shock, dribbling all over my keyboard.

Your bandmates would have to be daft to have not noticed your discomfort. DO talk it over with them as soon as! But do it with a clear head. Please do rant here, but of course chat to them calmly about it. Then have the rest of them verbally beat the cr@p out of the unsavoury little character instead
