1. I've video reviewed the Darkglass B3k, 3 Leaf Proton and 3 Leaf GR2 in Guitar Interactive Magazine ( www.iGuitarMag.com) in my bass department. Both companies really deliver top quality pedals, so i can see this being a positive move on both sides.
2. 'fraid so. You'll need to state a price on your advert BassMachine. Thank you!
3. Congrats! I'd say your first app would probably be one to keep an eye on your data useage. It's really easy to eat that up if you are surfing/downloading on 3G. It gets expensive when you have to pay per Mb after the 100Mb has gone. 02 have their own app that will tell you how much you have used as well as info about your tariff, so start with that one.
4. Hi! Thank you for the post, i'm actually all sorted for amps and cabs. My F1 has been replaced by an amp I took a fancy to in a bought of G.A.S.
5. I've been noticing slow load times with safari, both on my Mac and iPad when wanting to open pages on BC.
6.
Why stop there ? You missed out the Blues Crab, Flex Boost and Cruncher from Mooer's boost/overdrive/distortion range
The depths of my pockets are a limiting factor! ha! These pedals do look great though!
7. All sold! Great to see you after so long John! See you in 7 years yeh?
8. I love the form factor of these lil babies! I'd be very interested in adding the Green Mile, Hustler, Black Secret, Ultra Drive and Metal Blade pedals to the 'must try' list! I have a 'parallel effects loop' I could drop a pair of these in to for a bit of dirt in my signal! Nice! - but which do I get first?? Lol
9. Of course, as with any Luthier, you don't *have* to have their body shapes no more than having to have a Jazz body for example. You could have Jon make you a flying V if that floated your boat ;0) He he! They look scary, but I spent a lot of time with Jon getting them as easy to play as possible. Scale length/ Neck carve / Fret size and profile etc etc etc. Those who have played 'em (at 'bass bash' get togethers) are usually happy to find nothing mystical about the extra strings at all. No different from sitting at a grand piano! All the same notes, just more of them he he!
10. He he! Yes, I couldn't wait for the Fusion 800 that is due out and lept on the FET MB800 instead - it's pretty awesome, I'd expect the Fusion to be a real winner.
11. No, this hasn't been cleared with the moderating staff. It should be discussed with the moderating team first. If you are a shop as you say, then you should refer to the notice in the Affiliates forum.
12. Andy, just to add to the discussion, you're in Sheffield? You're practically in throwing distance of Shuker. Not that you should base your decision solely on that, but it may help! I think generally everyone will have their personal preference and for me, other luthiers may or may not have put me off a custom with them in the past for one reason or another . I'm delighted with my basses and would recommend them way over and above basses twice the price, that are mere pretenders to the throne. ;0) ;0) Anyway, I hope you get a chance to play as many basses by different luthiers as possible as well as going to see the companies in person to meet and discuss your dream bass. Most luthiers should be able to show you examples of their work and give you an opportunity to test some. If i were nearer, i'd be happy to let you take a look at my customs. Good luck!
13. If it's any help - the front panel of the F1 is removeable with just a couple of screws without damaging it. I intended on doing some graphics for my F1 but never got round to it - It just has a black face now! I've put it up for sale here on BC for not much money. I'd looked at several options including a vinyl overlay that I think could have been very cool, or a polished mirror front. I think a matching sleeve would be very cool - you could even make the head casing look like a valve amp (like a Marshall for example) - but instead of the space being used to make way for transformers and valves in a normal valve head, you could make a little drawer round the back for leads and power cables? Functional!
14.
Yeah after playing yours I just thought, if this guy is capable of making a 6 string fanned fret as comfortable as this, he's the guy to build me a 5 string J Obviously they are worlds apart, but everything of his I have seen/played has been absolutely stunning.
+ 1 million. On top of his incredible luthiery skills, his eye and attention to making sure the smallest details are perfect certainly sets him out from the rest.
15. Any interest in this one?
16. Awww Bremen! You took me right back to when I was a kid! I remember our old kettle we used to have and that big ole connector!!
17.
Actually, the output as it appears on the output devices is always either at 0 or rail voltage. It's the output filter choke, cable capacitance, the voice coil inductance and the cone inertia that integrates it and turns it back into an analogue signal. And yes it does use mark/space ratio, and so it does contain an analogue>digital converter of sorts, though not 'digital' as we generally use the term. But I'm splitting hares Here's how it's done: http://www.irf.com/technical-info/refdesigns/iraudamp7d.pdf
Yup, certainly splitting hairs, that's for sure, but I do stand corrected with reference to the way that the input signal is used to 'modulate' a PWM carrier signal and to quote from another reference 'this signal is used to drive the output devices'. Sure there's digital aspects but as you say, not digital as we generally use the term. In a similar analogy, it looks like a 'kettle lead' but it's not. It's all in the details!
18.
Clip or he doesn't exist
Sounds fair enough, can we opt for no clip? Lol.
19.
to be fair, they are 'digital' rather than analogue in that the output devices are always fully on or off, ie 1 or 0
It can't quite work like that in terms of dealing with an analogue signal. If it were that straight forward, then the signal at the speaker would only ever be two levels. 0v or (for example) 10v to truly denote an output of 0 or 1 in the digital domain. The speaker would be either at it's resting point, or being pushed out in one direction statically, nothing in between. A digital amplifier would be more common place in a control system, such as one driving a stepper motor for example. It's output only ever needing to be fully on or fully off, possibly using some sort of mark-space ratio to control movement. Coming back to the audio amplifier, unless it involves some sort of DSP circuit, such as the preamplifier in the TC RH450, there is no analogue to digital conversion and thus the signal stays in the analogue domain. Effects units, such as those by Line 6 are digital as they rely wholly on A/D, DSP and D/A conversion. It's pretty safe to call them digital.
20.
I don't see why you would have to pay a royalty fee for performing a cover. How would pub and wedding bands get by?
The venue that the band is performing at should hold a PRS entertainment license. Some of the cost of the license is said to cover (on average) any cover versions / disco tracks being played. This money should get back to the copyright owner via the license fee? Not that I have ever seen that detailed on a royalty payment myself!! I once played a covers gig and two retired ladies came in with PRS cards asking for a list of the covers that we play, as the venue was getting a 'spot check' from PRS. I assume these surveys are to get an idea what material is being performed in venues, but I can certainly see that this isn't an exhaustive survey!
21.
Actually are there any good rack distortions? I might start a rack instead of a pedalboard when I get looking properly
For Bass? Very limited! SWR's Interstellar Overdrive and Ampeg's SVP-BSP come to mind and maybe the odd 'one off' where pedals have been installed in to a rack, but not much else? Rat had a Juggernaut rack I think too? Maybe I'm imagining that though. The other option is to buy a guitar rack preamp or the usual line 6 / Boss type modelling kit instead. - But then we're back to amp sims which may or may not be desirable.
22. TC Electronic do great effects racks. Amongst the best for the semi-pro and pro musician. I recommend the TC Electronic G Major 2 and it's big brother the G Force. You will need a separate MIDI foot controller to change patches / effects etc. I love these because they don't have any distortions or amp sims on. You can rely on your amp's natural tone and use the G Major 2 to switch channels on your amp for you. I've owned both and now have downsized. I am using a TC Electronic Nova System. Failing that, the ole Lexicon MPX G2 is a good find on eBay. It looks like everything else somehow has to have a million amp sims and rubbish distortions on them! I've not yet found one I *really* like, though the Line6 X3 and Boss GT10B units that I had were not bad when you spent a lot of time with them.
23. I recall someone telling me an amp 'sounded too digital' recently. What they meant, although not really knowing how to explain it,was that it's flat response (that it is known for) sounded uncoloured and lacking in the peaks and troughs of boosted lows and scooped mids of other heavily EQ'd amplifiers, thus in comparison less exciting to the ear. Funnily it was a D-Class amplifier and one of my little pet-peeves is people calling them digital. Grr!
24. My video of the review of the MB800 came out today in iGuitar. The magazine is free to read: http://licklibrary.ceros.com/iguitarmag/issue-10-eddie-van-halen-iguitar/issue10/page/186 That's a really great amp!
