1. I've justbtaken delivery of a Hyperdrive but not had a chance to play with it properly yet. My 'band pass' distortion comes in the form of an Ampeg Billy Sheehan bass preamp. It's a hard one to beat as it has a full clean valve preamp and a seperate distortion channel that can be combined. I pull the lows and the highs of the distortion out and tune the mids to slot in the scoop of my clean signal thus giving me a nice rounded fat tone that is nice and distorted too. Clean bottom and top, dirty mids. Slap sounds great through it. It's a rack unit, but i have thought about having a pedal version custom made several times. Its so good, i sold the first unit I had and then had to search to buy another!
2. Wow! Superb! One of my first 'proper' amps was this very same model. Used for years with a huge 2x15 cabinet I was always complimented on my bass tone with a big fat juicy sounding P bass! It looks like new too! Great stuff. Nice trip down memory lane for me.
3. Thank you guys! God I love.... basschat!
4. Indeed, purchase a lead that is described as connecting to the 'line outs' on the apple dock. You'll get a stronger 'direct out' signal. You could, if you wish purchase an audio interface designed to give you a stronger output signal, as well as also including other 'inpit' facilities.
5. I'm afraid I can't help, but on a similar subject (if you don't mind me piggy-backing your thread too) - I'd love to track down the broadcast quality release of Pink Floyd, Live in Venice in 1989. It was originally shown as a TV broadcast - but i'd do anything to hear a stereo version that isn't all gnarly like my old videos were! Maybe a Pink Floyd expert could help us out with both requests.
6. I've seen Lissie's bass player also taking up drum duties simoultaneously at gigs, which is very cool. I'd also like to put a shout out for my very talented friend, work mate and musician Carl Cole who recently played in a band called Frames:Fire. He played keyboards and drums at the same time. Not just holding down a chord, we're talking tapping away arpeggios whilst grooving along on the rest of the kit! I'll see if i can find a video or two on YouTube.
7. Ahhhh! Thank you! They are great cabs. Preliminary investigations suggest that insured shipping in england could be around £20 per cab. This coupled with the low price I am selling at inthe first place is still a bargain i feel. You are, obviously, most welcome to collect. I will also be travelling down south east on Friday 4th May.
8. Hi Jackers! I've only played the RH450 through the HX410, the 4x10 equivalent. It was loud and punchy! I'd actually expect the 2x12's to actually sound fatter and deeper as the 4x10 cabinet is a sealed unit. The HX112's have front facing ports. The HX112's would be amazing with the impedance switching with the RH i reckon!
9. He he he!! Thanks Jim! - I know! G.A.S calls! Ewan, the GS112 has a more scooped tone. There's definitely more mids to the HX112's making them sound warmer. The GS112 sounds deeper at lower volumes but I feel that it could get lost in the mix. A single HX112 having more mids may make it sound less bassy, but I reckon the HX despite it's lower sensitivity figure sounds louder. Not that volume is the be-all-and-end-all, that's just what I think, using the same amp as I had when I had the GS. (Not the Kilo). A pair work well together given the true impedance switching to make sure amps are loaded correctly. Always nice to know you have many possible configurations (as I mentioned above) without fear of unleashing some of that magical amp smoke!! heh!
10. Bob, check out issue 9 of Guitar Interactive Magazine when it comes out - I reviewed the cab and the PF350. www.iGuitarMag.com Sadly we haven't got any dimensions for you, but I think we have some good shots of the insides. You might be able to guess the inside front to back measurement by taking the outside measurement and subtracting the thickness off the cabinet walls. so, 2x18mm. I think the main problem would be the height of the amp. It could get in the way of either the tweeter or back of the woofer when you try to lower the lid. I loved the idea though, as you will see in my review!! - Current issue is 8, so 9 isn't out yet. (it's free to read, by the way)
11. Nice one lobematt! Went to see 'shuggah last week. They were immense! - Nice playing and good work with reaper. I love how easy it is to do YT vids with it and have a great sound / mix! Dooooood

14. I think for all the reasons you have mentioned, you have my total thumbs up for going to Jon! I'd say the same to anyone going for a custom instrument: Arrange a meet with Jon and spend some time discussing the bass down to every last detail. What you like in other basses and what you don't like. Discuss tone, weight, neck carve and features too. I think the relationship between you and Luthier is very important in order to make sure you get your dream bass. I spent months talking to Jon about my 7 string. We needed less time to plan my 6 string Shuker as he pretty much knew by then what it is I need in my basses. My 6 string is *still* the best bass I have ever played or owned. Genuinely that includes all of the big names basses. Jon is up there with the very best in luthiery and I would have no doubt about where my next custom will be coming from. Doooood.
15. Hi guys! Yes, it was a superb bass. Actually one of the best basses I have reviewed. It would have come home with me if I could've gotten away with it. Muzz, you are so right! it's crazy to think so much tone was coming off such a pleasantly light bass.
16. Hmmmm, nooo, I've not heard anything 'up' with the LH heads doing that. How were you connected to the cab? Bridged or dual mono config?
17. Hi! Neck laminating is nothing new and it's a great technique for making a very strong neck that is less prone to warping ( as each piece of laminate can either be a different type of wood, or for example have the grain rotated). In terms of it's useage, the very best basses, including Shuker, Fodera etc use multilaminate necks. Both of my basses have a seven piece laminate of Maple and Wenge. The Dingwall here is seperate pieces all of top quality Maple, with a very sexy piece of Maple for the fretboard. When we refer to 'laminates' it doesn't have to refer to a skin layer of something nice looking over the top of an ugly or boring tonewood. For a Bass neck, the laminates are nice big healthy chunks of wood bonded together for strength and tonal properties. I hope this helps!
18. It was actually a normal pick, played by a jazz guitarist in a club, but everyone in the venue and surrounding areas died from boredom as he droned on for hours and fecking hours. Soon, the village was forgotten, ruined and decayed. Many years later Milton Keynes was built and somewhere in the UK an arrowhead was found. The end.

20. My review of the Dingwall Afterburner ABZ 6 string bass. The link to the full magazine article is in the YouTube video comments. I try not to do anything 'widely' in any of the videos. You'd rather listen and see the bass than me 'woodshedding'!
