1. For info, i used to plug my Tobias 6er directly in to an Alesis 3630 then directly in to a 450w power amp and then out to a Hartke 4.5xl many years ago. I used the gain control on the Alesis to boost the bass signal up to line level so the power amp received a strong enough signal. Bass and Treble control came from the bass alone. Worked a treat for me.
2. Hi, I've certainly found that it pays to spend time chatting and finding out what the student likes. One of my younger ones likes Pokemon, so using a number of Pokemon style games tied together as 'building blocks' i've been able to teach some fairly complex theories for a younger learner. Being able to drip feed theory and technique through play works well too. Lots of games, lots of fun. A dry guitar lesson would bore the pants out of me, so will definitely have the same effect on a student. Yes, i agree about lesson length. 30mins is nearing the limit for the younger ones. Keep them interested with varied lessons. Last week I did a set of lessons about rhythm with a whole selection of hand drums and things to make noise with in my studio!
3. Lets keep this thread as friendly as possible please. It's too easy to hide behind your screens and throw the toys out of the pram. I think it's a bit harsh to direct the days frustrations on to one person. How many people who are complaining about all the slap actually did something about it at the time? Or just complained about 'the other stands'. Yes, Nigel does slap and so does Doug and T.M. But they weren't beating three shades of crap out of their basses for 8 hours constantly. So mebbe directing your 'pops' solely at Nigel is actually a bit out of order. Are we going to name every bass player who slapped at the show on this thread? The slap wasn't the problem. The cummulative effect of 100's of watts of amplification was.
4. As per the market place guidelines, disagreements over price should be kept to PMs only. FloydElgar, I'm removing your posts.
5. Not yet mate! It's a job to do at some point to see how it sounds, but i've been pretty busy elsewhere! I'll start by rotating around valve one,the 'critical' position and see what difference it makes with my 'magic' valve and my rather spesh 5751.
6.
I ended up brazening mine out having had a two pronged sales attack on the Overwater stand (not an expensive one I hasten to add and tonights eBay & the last couple of nights gigs cover it - just) Chatted to a few BC'ers, missed a few more one the way (Seashell I think I may have been sat next to you at Neil Murray;'s masterclass but am a shy retiring flower) and kept almost getting a word with Dood but not quite, then Doug Wimbish rean over and it was too late. Ah well, there's always next year
Awww sorry fella! Right, next time we'll be sure to have a coffee!
7. Today's Ollie? Yeah, i did. Ha ha, it was a bit different from the run of the mill clinic, but I thought it was rather fun. Dave Marks holding down the bass line like a real trooper bless 'im!
8. So great to see so many familiar faces and to put also finally put faces to names! I had a real blast over the last three days. I love being a bass player and being part of the community. I worried less about the noise, just as long as I could hear what you were all saying.. Yup, i did waaaaaaay more talking than playing again this year!
9. Lol.. Though at the start of the day there apeared to be very little slapping going on...
10. Hey all! I've just gotten back to Dood Towers after a day of insasne Bass noise. This year I was totally expecting it and came prepared. I think a lot of others were too. So with that, i was less bothered by the inane slappage that so many feel is the only way of displaying their prowess on the instrument at guitar shows. Heh. I was though totally lovin' talking to as many of you as possible and having a brilliant laugh! Basschatters are bloody brilliant and I only wish that I'd known who more of you were to say hi to! This year I have broken my record. I managed to play four basses by the end of the day, as I'd been talking so much to y'all. Last year it was a massive zero plugged in!! I'm sorting out my transport for tomorrow and looking forward to meeting more of you as well as those doing the weekend stint that I didn't get to talk to properly today! I took one 'photo lol!
11. Beeyyyooootiful!!!!
12. I've just spent all afternoon with Doug Wimbish. He is going to be amazing at LBGS. What a top chap! We've jammed together - I played his super Spector, all battered and bruised but awesome and he made my Shuker sing! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150603394298123&l=384dcbad36 Picture link hopefully!

15. ZOMG! Picki has just joined the forum!
16. What are the chances of getting a tshirt printed up tomorrow with my avatar on?!
17. How did I miss this thread!!!! Hello my lovely x I hope you are well. See you at the weekend I hope!?
18. I will now be there both days! I'm rubbish with faces, so full name and basschat id in your introduction please
19. I'll be there, see me lurking around the Hartke stand!
20. There's a possibility i'll be down for both days, but i'll post back here when i know for sure as I'd love to catch up for cawfee and a chinwag with y'all. I'm gonna be toting my wares on the Hartke stand, but this year i intend to actualy play through some gear on other stands! Last time i spent so much time talking to everyone, i didnt plug in to a single amp!!!
21. Dude, i totally use awesome blue pointy picks! *checks. I really do!! Dunlop stubby are great for speed. Infact, i outran a kipper with one just the other day.
22. Put simply, a passive high pass filter relies on the loading of the circuit it is connected to as well as it's own components in order to set the filter 'value'. Not knowing what the schematic is inside the plug (be it a simple choke/capacitor arrangement, i don't know) I'd suspect that it may work, it may have little effect at all if the centre frequency is pulled down too low, or it may eat away more bottom than you'd like if the centre frequency is pulled high by the load. An active circuit alleviates the loading problem and is far more preferable. I'd love to see some more technical detail on this to see what the suggested load should be for correct operation and to see how many amplifier effects loops wide of the mark. Disclaimer: AFAIK, correct me if I am wrong, IMHO, your assets are at risk if you do not keep up payments.
23. Cheers John! I should have been a bit clearer in my reply as I meant to say about the Yammies, though I think GH did pull the Nash out for gigs with Matt. I might be wrong, but i think Matt has shown me stage pics with him and the Nash in.. Duzznae matey in the grand scheme of things, lol, but yep, he definitely played the Yamaha basses with Matt.
24. If all you need is a bit of growl, maybe look at a pedal to augment your set up. I've just played with a DarkGlass B3K that does an awesome job of adding anything from a little bite to all out Ggrrrrrrr distortion from one small box. Also check out the Catalinbread SFT or indeed if it's an Ampeg grunt, the Tech 21 VT Bass pedal will reward you with those tones. You'd still have the GB tones to return to, as well as not having to outlay tons of cash on new amps etc.
