Pic of the sum total of any damage, other than the odd litle scuffs to be expected on the 'feet' where the cab has say down on hard surfaces at workshops etc. Sorry the pics are on their side!
Over the past couple of months, I have hardly played bass at home, but I play guitar every day. And when I go to rehearsals as a bassist and play songs we know, and work on new songs, I am a much better bassist. I am more fluid, more imaginative, more dynamic, more expressive and more comfortable. I am also playing more with a pick and right hand damping more. Along with the volume pedal which has become a large part of my natural style, I am really feeling it now, not just mechanical. I am a much better player through not playing at home. Not that I am advocating this approach you understand. I am finally happy not being a reader, I got fed up of feeling guilty about it and shed that stupid burden. I am a happy bassist (for a f***ing change ).
Hi Nigel! Ahhh I totally have to agree with the advantages of playing Guitar as well as Bass. I've always played Guitar and a very little Keys too, but after many years of tinkering with drum kits I finally have a lil kit of my own. I've been watching Bob Gatzen and Jo Jo Mayer DVDs, learning all the really geeky stuff like different stick grips too. I've found that my playingbhas taken yet another step up and not only am I enjoying playing a bit of drums, bass has taken yet another new lease of life too. That's great because I've notched up about 22 years playing now and I'm still in love with the damn thing!!!

It's all change in gear land .. But not big rig stuff, just changing out some of my teaching and workshop gear. I bought my Acme B2 from 'Soliloquy' who imported the cabinet brand new, owned it about 3 months and as I understand it, wanted two B1's instead, so sold it in it's brand new state to me. I'll post some pictures of my B2. I haven't used it for gigs as I always use my Hartke rig, but I have taken the cab to the odd rehearsal (quiet sessions) and has been used at home for teaching. Have a look at www.acmebass.com for full details. This example is the version 2 in 8 ohms with carpet covering. There's the odd mark and small scuff on the outer plastic work, but absolutely does not affect sound or operation. I am asking £350 plus shipping (or pickup) which is a marked saving on the cost of importing/taxes/duties/shipping from US.

You're definitely missing off the TC Electronic Nova Dynamics from your list!! It's feature rich and cheaper than some of the pedals in your list, yet features both full range and multi band compression (3 vs EBS's 2) and noise gates too. The pedal can also be used in full stereo for studio applications OR configured so that two different basses can be plugged in and have their own separate settings. It's a transparent compressor that does exactly what you want without adding it's own colour.

Ahhh, wait a sec! I think I know! The older models didn't and the newer ones do!

The JamMan doesn't? Are you sure? Both my Boss and JamMan do quantize. Just wondering..
Would be better if you posted feedback in Si's feedback thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=0353203
I've merged the two separate threads together now.

Fender Jazz Bass Special and Power Jazz Bass Special PORN
Dood replied to chriswilliams666's topic in Gear Gallery
Wow! Very nice! I find myself wanting to get a colour change on mine! That White PJBS looks great! I must admit, I'm leaning towards getting Dimarzio picks for mine as an upgrade.. Not sure why as the Quarter Pounders appear to be the more usual upgrade! - I had a Dimarzio P pickup in a precision I had years ago and it was great - I also like the Sound of the 'Will Power' P pickup by the same company. I guess I need to hear a PJBS with either sets in to get an idea what they are capable of. -
I've just downgraded from the rather cool Digitech Stereo JamMan. I wanted a single pedal that I could chuck in my gig bag instead and have just bought the Boss RC3. I'd say that the JamMan, having more buttons and functionality would make it better for live annnnnnd you can connect further footswitches to the pedal for it's other operations. I think if I were to use the rc3 for live looping too, I'd grab the 2 pedal footswitch to cut down on on stage tap dancing. For other loopers, take a look at Electroharmonix, Akai, Eventide and for the daddy of loopers, Looperlative.
Is there a way to really measure output at varying volume settings, if so , then one of the magazines should surely set up a test when reviewing and give some sort of rating or benchmark, which at least would allow you to compare across the board with a level benchmark As I said before whatever amp I use I always seem to end up with the dial in the same place anyhow
I think that was the original idea behind Bass Gear Magazine's reviews. They 'go to town' on kit, lifting the lid to look for quality workmanship and at the same time to test manufacturer's technical figures and specifications to see if they agree. I've not read the TB thread but my personal thoughts is that I take a very dim view of any company that tries to pull the wool over the consumer's eyes. Conversely I am pleased when I see an amp exceeding it's rated specs, such as a certain reasonably priced amplifier that in tests chucked out 1100W RMS :0)
yes that did strike me as a little strange, Maybe someone 'in the know' can give us the insider gen ? Someone like Dood might well know (hint?)
Hey Daz! Well - unbelievable as it might be - no, I actually have no leads on this year's show! - That said, I've been pretty damn busy these last few months and hadn't gotten as far as planning my BassDay. I've got some amazing news to spill soon which will hopefully be great for us Bass Players - sorry I can't say anything yet! If I remember to, I'll see if I can find out what's happening this year!
Sound qual is great, isn't it. At 1080 it's not looking stellar to be honest. Needs substantially more stage light, imo. On the other hand, with all these clips the easiest method to look pro by far is to get the bleedin thing on a tripod. Do that & you're halfway there, whatever the visuals
The Q3HD (and lesser Q3 model) both have tripod mounts on the bottom too!
Took a look at the zoom on you tube..the audio quality is really good.. It reminds me of the quality you get with the little stereo mic that Sony used to make...perhaps still do. There is a fantastic side by side comparison with a couple of other HD cameras of a guy playing an acoustic guitar but I noticed quite a lot of blocking going on..especially on the backdrop where there was just a large section of solid colour..is this the quality of the vid or something that happens when you upload to youtube? There is some great footage of Rammstein that a bloke had taken live that was so much more impressive than other fan shot footage...looks like a good bit of kit. Will definitely take a look.
I would say that's more of a problem with the amount of compression that Youtube forces upon your work you have painstakingly and lovingly poured in to your HD quality video!!!

I've also notice KRK monitors popping up here and there, http://www.krksys.com/index.html - I've heard and used the RP6 and VXT 8's and thought they were very faithful in reproduction but the Rokit range are regarded well too. I can't say what is best though as I've heard too many in different settings to give a reasonable comparison. I liked the little Mackie monitors! Interestingly, I don't have a set of reference monitors but I do have a set of proper old school audiophile HiFi speakers that I have owned for years. I know what they sound like and am so used to them, so I actually mix on those instead!
Just for the record, I disagree with this. Two preamps running two power amps (your power amp is stereo iirc, essentially two power amps in one module) into two cabs, sounds properly bi-amped to me. Gk and ampeg do some preamps that I've heard good things about.
I can see where you are coming from if the name were taken literally 'two-amping' but it's a little more specific, meaning separate amplifiers power separate speakers to drive the high. low and mid frequencies respectively.
