1. Great work mate! It's good to hear a selection of Jon's basses together deftly demonstrated! Be sure to send the link to Jon too!
2. It is with great pleasure I can add that I have been asked to interview my fellow Hartke endorsers Dave and Frank prior to the clinic for LickLibrary.com. I will also be at the clinic supporting Hartke, so come down, it'd be great to put BC names to faces!
3. Strange, I could have sworn I typed a reply about my PJBS on a thread like this one! I have one in red (it's the 'Power' active model) and love it. Mine is well used, I bought it off eBay US years ago, but it's neck and frets are in superb nick and it plays like a dream. I'm toying with a pick up upgrade, but I actually really like the sound and worried that I'll spoil or lose that character even though I'd be gaining another.
4.
Thanks for the reply dood. I have tried reinstalling, I even installed the Reaper 4 beta - still the same problem. Unfortunately I don't have any other machines to test it on (nor a USB key to run it off). As for device drivers, there hasn't been an update for them since I got the interface. I'm starting to think it may have something to with the ASIO driver setting (which I've updated and downgraded to see if it was the cause) or sample rate - something like that, but I've never tampered with those settings (neither on the ASIO panel or in Reaper) and don't have a clue what a lot of it means. I think it's very strange that it only occurs when I change the tempo or time sig...
Yeah, it does sound rather odd! - Reason I mention it, is because Line 6 just updated their drivers and floods of issue complaints appeared on the Line 6 forum! OUCH! - Infact it did stuff my machine for a bit too. But it is strange that it happens in the cases you mention. I can't remember - but I *think* there is a way to reset Reaper to 'default' settings that might help. [edit] oh actually - yes in my start menu: "REAPER (x64) (reset configuration to factory defaults)" - Could try opening a session with the shortcut and see if the problem reappears?
5. I reposted the FB message earlier today - I don't know Jay personally, but my band mates have been recording at the very studio. Real shame to hear about this. There's some ****ing pondlife out there. Hung, Drawn and Quartered on capture then his remains hung from the walls as a deterrent please!
6. Agree with the above. The Genz kit is designed to be 'HiFi' with clarity. - If you've ever tried to run a distortion pedal straight in to a PA with no EQ, you'll get the same fizzy effect. The 15" speaker has a great deal of those upper mid and treble frequencies rolled off that would usually make distortion sound harsh and fizzy and thus will sound more pleasing to the ear. Tweeters aren't great with distortion either unless there's a bit of filtering and EQ before the distorted sound goes to the amp and then speaker. For example, I use Hartke aluminium coned cabinets that are naturally bright. I therefore Eq a 'guitar speaker' frequency curve on to just my distortion channel so that it sounds a lot smoother when the signal gets to my bright speakers. I hope that makes sense! - in short, the Genz kit is is just doing a better job of relaying a facsimile of what is going in to it out to the speakers - the 15" is rounding off the top end to sound less harsh. Incidently, Jimi Hendrix used to use 15" speakers in his guitar rig with spades of ratty distortion!
7. As a brand, Hartke are very much enjoying being snapped up by pro artists at the moment - so yes, great kit. The Kickback gear retains it's value on eBay which to me suggests that it is very good. I certainly was impressed. I have to say though - if the amp looks like it should be in a Kickback combo - where is the rest of it! - Rings alarm bells if an amp has been dissected. Can you post some pictures and we will e able to give you some more details.
8. Hmm!! I'm afraid I am not sure. Have you installed any Reaper updates or changed and interface settings recently? I'm guessing by your post the answer may be no - but it could be 'update' related somewhere along the lines - drivers included. The great thing about Reaper is you can install multiple instances of the program -for example, I have Reaper installed on a USB key too - so, by running up the USB version instead of the PC version I can see if there's a problem with Reaper or my interface should glitches occur. I have to say, that every single time I've had a problem (and those aren't many) it wasn't Reaper at fault. It was either me, or an interface update causing the problem. Worth testing the theory. Do you have another PC / Laptop you can do a test run on? Dooooooooooooooood
9. Ok, I did it!! I am the happy owner of an iPad. I have to say that so far I am very impressed. It's a great business tool already, even before I start playing with music tools!
10. Waaaaaiiiit a minute! I think I have a startling discovery! The percentage figures in the OP are based on items for sale on eBay. Welllllll, it seems to me that it's not 10% of Bass players having 5 and 6 string basses for sale.. It's actually 90% of bass players are getting rid of their 4 stringers because 5 and 6 strings are far more useful!!!! ..... Right, that's the touch paper lit.. I'm logging off for a few hours!! Tee heeee ;0)
11. Another big +1 for D'addario Planet Waves customer service here too. Absolutely brilliant. Not many companies still offer the kind of warranties they do on equipment and this should be commended publicly!
12.
For home use and abuse mate - some kind of highly favourable finance deal they are offering through a third party straight out of your wages before tax, saaaaweeet!
No way!! That's pretty cool - You don't need a 'second one' then? ;o) ha ha!! - Sounds great, I'm definitely gonna have one soon, just a case of where from and how much!
13.
For f***s sake, paid £380 2 weeks ago from Andertons!
If it's within 14 days of purchase, you could have a chat with them about it. You are within your rights to return your amp still and just buy another at the new price - or if Andertons are understanding, at least give you a credit note for the difference as it would be far less hassle. I'm not suggesting going in guns blazing, but definitely ask about it. I had a similar situation with another company and they were very sympathetic. Infact the price drop was so considerable I ended up with a very nice acoustic guitar from the company!
14.
Just thinking about my perfect fretless and wondering if anyone made it. It would have to be based on a passive Fender Jazz, all black, with matching black headstock. Rosewood board and idealy black neck but would happily accept maple. Plus black scratchplate and black hardware although happily accept chrome. If anyone remembers the old Fender Power Jazz from the 80's or maybe 90's I think then it would be like that but fretless. The thing is I don't really know of Fender doing matching headstocks on their current MIA range. I think the old Lakland Darryl Jones had a matching headstock but not sure if you could get them fretless. Stingray do fretless and matching headstock but its active and not a jazz Any other ideas or does my dream fretless exist?
Hey Linus! Last year a couple of fretless Power Jazz Bass Specials came up on ebay US. I know, cos I nearly bought one - and as you suggest, it was black, black and more black! So tastey! I can see the attraction with the PJBS. I adore my red fretted version. It was the very first bass I ever GASsed over in a magazine. Took me the best part of 18 years to get round to buying one though! ha ha ha! Keep an eye out on ebay.com, you might get lucky mate!

Hey DOOD!

HEY! I'm here!! Sorry I took so long arriving. (God there's gotta be a joke in there somewhere). I won't even fuss maself with the 'how many strings/ what is Bass' debate - just THANKS for the post! With ref to the beast in question though, I play guitar, keyboard and a smidge of drums as well as Bass - call me wierd, but I really like the idea of having all the best bits from each in one instrument. I often get asked why I don't own a Chapman Stick yet, for the same reason!
16.
Dan - I just ordered one thru work Arrives in a few weeks! I did put a thread on here about GarageBand...
Ordered one thru work? For work use or for home? - I spent most of the afternoon talking to alovely young lady in the Apple store and tinkering on the iPad - yeah, think I need look no further. Sorry to say that Android as an OS just hasn't caught up yet. iPad it is!
17. Ahhh quick update - looks like if USB isn't an option there's an SD card reader instead, so that'll do me fine!
18.
To be honest I think you would have to hack it, as you would need to see the file management which ipad does not let you see, it can be done but I do not believe an app has been created for this or Apple would allow you for such a thing. To let you know the Camera adaptor kit needs a USB powered hub as I think it is only 10 watts power I could be wrong but Apple reduced this to stop people adding non Apple products.
Hmmmm!! That's interesting and just a little bit annoying!! So I'm back to using my laptop for viewing pictures etc. Kinda put a bit of a spoiler on things as I'd hoped to be able to use the iPad for media, like taking videos and transfering them on to iPad whilst I am away from home. Will have to check that out further, but my finger is hovering over the 'buy' button grrr!!
19. The Apogee Jam looks like a nice piece of kit - compact will be helpful! - I think I might get some sort of charging dock as well so that I can have the iPad to hand so that I can grab it whilst I am downstairs / teaching / watching TV etc instead of having to go through to my desk.. boot up laptop.. wait for it to log in.... do updates... snoooooore!!!! Do you think it's worth getting a 3G version now? Maybe a bit of future proofing, should 3G networks get better in the future?
20.
I bought the Xoom to enable flash and have a better experience with the internet, sadly the ipad's smooth scrolling and fast zooming still made me want to use the ipad. The only thing I dislike about ipad is mail, very basic and needs a major upgrade. The new Apogee Jam looks great, they make awesome products, I use one with my Mac and it has no issues, the Irig is ok but the sound quality is poor (due to using the headphone/mic socket) it's ok for rough mixes. Buy whatever you can afford, I have the 64gb and have 46gb of data on the unit, but if you are not putting your itunes songs on then 32gb would be fine.
Ash, can you hang an external USB hard drive off the iPad?
21. Thanks guys, that's actually really what I wanted to hear! - Ash, I hadn't thought about latency and am pleased to hear the iPad 2 is able to perform in that respect. The Xoom looks like a great spec and would be brilliant for 'other' stuff and messing around with. I really like how my Google accounts / Gmail integrate with the OS on my 'phone and it's that which naturally draws me to the Xoom. If I were using the tablet just for surfing, games and documents, then it'd be brilliant. However, even where the iPad falls short in comparison to the Xoom, I think it still well out weighs in terms of it's advantages. I think I'm going to go the iPad route! Steve, Case in point there! - No one is manufacturing hardware like that for any other Tablets. I even thought briefly about using Windows 7 on a tablet so that I could use my current USB hardware - but reading reviews, the W7 tablets are laggy at best and thus I'd be better off sticking to my laptop for the 'bigger stuff'. Anyone know the cheapest place to pick up an iPad 2? AND - is 32Gb enough?
22. Thanks for the input guys! Yes, it seems there's literally nothing in the way of interfaces for Android OS ran hardware (The Motorola Xoom looks pretty awesome though!!) - Windows 7 tablets are too slow and laggy, because they aren't optimised for touch screen use (from what I understand anyway) and iPad 2 offers Garageband and a few notation programs along with a veritable supply of hardware interfaces. I think, as much as I am new to and love Android, it just ain't ready for what I need. I think the iPad 2 wins hands down and will now be added to my shopping list. Should I need any Windows functionality then I will 'remote' / thinclient to my PC on the same network and stream data back and forth. Now it's a case of finding the best and cheapest place for said beast. Do I really need a 64Gb version or will 32Gb suffice? I don't think I need the 3G option, but having said that, it could be something to think about for the future and thus wouldn't hurt to have it even if I don't use it right away. Your further input is most welcome! Doooooooooooooooooooooood
23. Wow! I'm amazed at the discussion the single cut has generated yet again! - I wonder what the discussion would have been like if Leo had never designed the 'double cut' and pushed the telecaster look for guitars and basses instead?
24. Ahhh I have one of these in *red* too! Brilliant instruments. I'll watch this one. I reckon it'll go for about 350 minimum...
