1. The Apogee Jam looks like a nice piece of kit - compact will be helpful! - I think I might get some sort of charging dock as well so that I can have the iPad to hand so that I can grab it whilst I am downstairs / teaching / watching TV etc instead of having to go through to my desk.. boot up laptop.. wait for it to log in.... do updates... snoooooore!!!! Do you think it's worth getting a 3G version now? Maybe a bit of future proofing, should 3G networks get better in the future?
2.
I bought the Xoom to enable flash and have a better experience with the internet, sadly the ipad's smooth scrolling and fast zooming still made me want to use the ipad. The only thing I dislike about ipad is mail, very basic and needs a major upgrade. The new Apogee Jam looks great, they make awesome products, I use one with my Mac and it has no issues, the Irig is ok but the sound quality is poor (due to using the headphone/mic socket) it's ok for rough mixes. Buy whatever you can afford, I have the 64gb and have 46gb of data on the unit, but if you are not putting your itunes songs on then 32gb would be fine.
Ash, can you hang an external USB hard drive off the iPad?
3. Thanks guys, that's actually really what I wanted to hear! - Ash, I hadn't thought about latency and am pleased to hear the iPad 2 is able to perform in that respect. The Xoom looks like a great spec and would be brilliant for 'other' stuff and messing around with. I really like how my Google accounts / Gmail integrate with the OS on my 'phone and it's that which naturally draws me to the Xoom. If I were using the tablet just for surfing, games and documents, then it'd be brilliant. However, even where the iPad falls short in comparison to the Xoom, I think it still well out weighs in terms of it's advantages. I think I'm going to go the iPad route! Steve, Case in point there! - No one is manufacturing hardware like that for any other Tablets. I even thought briefly about using Windows 7 on a tablet so that I could use my current USB hardware - but reading reviews, the W7 tablets are laggy at best and thus I'd be better off sticking to my laptop for the 'bigger stuff'. Anyone know the cheapest place to pick up an iPad 2? AND - is 32Gb enough?
4. Thanks for the input guys! Yes, it seems there's literally nothing in the way of interfaces for Android OS ran hardware (The Motorola Xoom looks pretty awesome though!!) - Windows 7 tablets are too slow and laggy, because they aren't optimised for touch screen use (from what I understand anyway) and iPad 2 offers Garageband and a few notation programs along with a veritable supply of hardware interfaces. I think, as much as I am new to and love Android, it just ain't ready for what I need. I think the iPad 2 wins hands down and will now be added to my shopping list. Should I need any Windows functionality then I will 'remote' / thinclient to my PC on the same network and stream data back and forth. Now it's a case of finding the best and cheapest place for said beast. Do I really need a 64Gb version or will 32Gb suffice? I don't think I need the 3G option, but having said that, it could be something to think about for the future and thus wouldn't hurt to have it even if I don't use it right away. Your further input is most welcome! Doooooooooooooooooooooood
5. Wow! I'm amazed at the discussion the single cut has generated yet again! - I wonder what the discussion would have been like if Leo had never designed the 'double cut' and pushed the telecaster look for guitars and basses instead?
6. Ahhh I have one of these in *red* too! Brilliant instruments. I'll watch this one. I reckon it'll go for about 350 minimum...
7. I've deleted the other 3 posts for you.
8. Well my research thus far has basically told me the only thing I can really use for music is the iPad! Connecting anything other than a digital camera to an Android tablet seems a bit alien! I need to go find all the different audio interfaces now and find out which are best and which are rubbish. I seem to recall iRig being at the top of the pile.
9.
Right time for a proper update with anew picture of the book matched fingerboard:
Very nice piece of wood!!!
10. Hey everyone! Well, since it's absolutely chucking it down outside, I decided to sit and ponder over a purchase I have been GASsing over for a while. I'll cut straight to the chase, else I might waffle on for hours about what kit I've messed around with over the years! I can see massive potential for the iPad and Android Tablets (kinda disregarded Windows 7 for now) but my questions are: At the moment I can only see that the iPad has 3rd party recording interfaces being made for them (such as iRig etc). There's nothing on the market for Android tablets right?? I've not seen anything anyway! What interface are you using with yours / recommend? Is anyone using Android as a music related OS? For example using Guitar Pro style notation software and for recording / media? What Apps are you using and have you been able to use any 3rd party hardware? Ultimately I think I'll end up with an iPad - The idea that I can use it as a teaching tool as well as using it for leisure and business is a cool one - especially with an 'on demand' power up instead of waiting for 'old faithful' to boot in to windows everytime! Would love to hear your thoughts, ye collective brain of BassChat! Dooooooooooooooooooooooood
11.
As with ped its bowels with me too. I call them "adrenaline poos", always have to have a right turf out before a gig or any situation where a bit of nerves is required. They are not crippling, (the nerves not the poo!) just a little sharpener to the edge. I always get them & would probably feel weirder if I wasn't a bit nervous. Always go for a slash in between if we do two sets though. Could always wear yer bass a bit lower to cover any embarassing leakage or splash back issues! Cheers, Norm.
I finally have a name for the condition! - I used to suffer really badly with the ehem...'Adrenaline Poo' and like Ped, if a venue didn't have the facilities to accomodate, it'd just make the situation worse. Last few gigs I hadn't given it a second thought to be honest. Maybe I'm cured! The whole 'need to go' thing when getting ready to play a gig is strongly linked to the natural 'flight or fight' response we have within us and the effect it has on your body. As I understand it, your subconscious senses that you are getting nervy, maybe anxious/ adrenaline starts kicking in. It can't 'see' what is happening so prepares the body for action - it then sidelines other 'functions' to divert energy to what it thinks you'll need to survive. I can't say exactly why it happens, but the side effect for some, one way or another is the errr, how shall we say 'loosening of the bowel'.. Which is where the phrase 'sh*t scared' comes from, I think. Many have found that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can clear up these 'urge to go' by safely reteaching your subconscious mind to not get in a tiz like an over zealous guard dog everytime you do something that gets the anxiety levels up a bit!

iPad Fx Board
I'm not sure i always want to deter them if you see what I mean, just read some more and apparantly the unit will work without an ipad installed, you use the ipad to edit you're patches, this is sounding better and better, anyone know of a price for one?
Woh! That sounds like a great idea! - I always thought that the Line 6 stuff was brilliant because you could plug a laptop in and configure it - so being able to disconnect the iPad totally is brilliant. I'm liking it more and more too!!

iPad Fx Board

Woh, that's really cool - I've seen a lot of people working on using Tablet PCs with hardware synths and workstations. The idea is brilliant and has already started me thinking about integrating a tablet in to my studio / bass rig somehow. I'm really pleased to see mainstream manufacturers catching on to the possibilities that tablets and other mobile devices can afford us as musicians. It's really not doing my GASsing any good though, as I am trying to decide if I should have an iPad2 or an Android / Windows equivalent! Oh boy-o-boy!
14. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?? It's out already? Man! That sucks! I was hoping to live off the glory of my piece in *this* months edition AT LEAST to the end of the month! ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!
15. Hi, welcome to the forum! Well the quick answer for you to get a more powerful amp with the same sound would be to upgrade to the Hartke HA3500. (350w) or the Hartke HA5500C (500w). Both fantastic amps from the same model series and sharing the same preamplifier.
16. You'll be pleased to hear that the Commando has more than a passing resemblance to the sought after V-type combos! Without being too geeky about the whole thing (please, grab a pillow if you feel your eyelids getting heavy!!) The preamp section of the Commando amp really is a FET (transistor) equivalent of the v-type valve preamp. Same passive tone stack and gain stage layout. I'm not sure about the power amp section, but I think that Trace pretty much uses the same type(s) of design across the range. I had a V-Type pre for a while, it was ace!
17. I don't think my fave female Bass Player actually plays Bass anymore. As a musician, she was awesome - brilliant playing and singing voice too. Though if we're going on looks alone - yeah, very attractive, pretty lady!
18. On a budget, you could look at the Line6 UX8 which not only records 8 tracks separately as requested, you essentially get a POD X3 and a whole host of other functions thrown in to boot. Makes great sense especially when it comes to 're-amping' from a dry signal later on if you weren't happy with any of the recorded sounds.
19. I'll no doubt be there again this year with Shuker, Rotosound and Hartke - I will also, like last year be one of the only people refraining from 'slappage'.. ha!
20. Captain Sensible once described me as 'flamboyant'!

Sonuus B2M

Hi Monckman, There's been a few threads about the unit with some reviews in: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=Search...hlite=%2Bsonuus

Very nice! - Though I'm having slight problems believing the two lil dudes hanging off the end of the PCB are capable of churning out 500W - 250W RMS I can believe. That said, I'd like to see some more info' on the kit though,
