Right, I've changed my mind and realised what I want! I really like my Ampeg BSP-SVP preamp. It'd be great to shoe horn that in to the box somehow! -

This feature virtually guarantees you will meet one.[/quote] Funny you should suggest that design actually - as my idea of a D Class amp is pretty much the same. I'd use the Hartke LH preamp (which is very similar to the Alembic / Trace / Fender / etc etc etc designs) - but I'd run it in to two 500W power amps that can be bridged or run in stereo or parallel mono to cover all eventualities. I'd want the whole lot in a 1u rack case with a stereo DI, true bypass graphic and a bypass-able Thumpinator by SFX (Max). I might also be happy to include a compressor, but it'd have to be a triple band type such as the TC Electronics Nova Dynamics. Hmm.. maybe a parametric EQ instead.. and a purple LED. no, three! Oh wait I've changed my mind.. I want.... A SHWUBBERWEE!!! -

They indeed have a Jazz neck and were made in Japan. I remember reading somewhere (Could well have been the original magazine excerpt I still have from 1989) that the neck profile is based on a '62 Jazz neck. They are bloody good though! Ladies and Gentlemen, Firstly thank you for making full use of this forum, it's great to see adverts being posted and responded to often. Making sure your new adverts are kept up to date, detailed and responded to helps both yourselves and any musicians interested in getting involved with your bands/projects etc. There have unfortunately been a few cases of responses from forum users that have either been contentious, pointless and in some cases offensive. May I remind anyone who is thinking about posting in such a tone that we are all musicians here and have all at some point needed to advertise and ask for help in finding fellow musicians to work with. I find it disheartening to see that some think it witty to poke fun at or undermine those advertising. BassChat operates a warning system that can result in having posting ability removed, temporary bans or removal from the forum completely. Not surprisingly, repeated offensive posting is a quick way to achieve such. Please, if you have any reason to think that a new posting or response is contrary to the community spirit on the forum, use the 'Report' button on the bottom left of the offending post, or PM myself or any of the other moderators and we will intervene. Be helpful to your fellow musicians - and if you have nothing of value to add to the thread, then maybe it's best not to include it!

LowRegisterHead, there is nothing to stop a band requiring a triangle player advertising on here. Yes, it IS a Bass forum and no, they are less likely to find the musician they require here than somewhere else. So why are you giving them a hard time? I commend MichaelG for not rising to your to your offensive tone towards the band. Maybe it's best to not say anything if you don't have anything useful to add? PM'ing...

Wireless Router Secure Attachment Problems

When I read 'router' in your title I was a bit confused - being as that is the more conventional name for that there lil box (containing the modem) that connects your computer to a broadband phoneline. That'll be the 'transmitter' you are attaching to your strap. ;o) Anyway - there are one or two companies out there that actually make straps with a holster for wireless systems - I'm afraid I can't remember the names, but they are definitely out there. I used to use a plain sports sock with the top cut off then sewn round to form a stretchy tube which worked very well - you could also use a couple of those really wide sweat bands over the strap to slip the transmitter under? -
I'm afraid I can't help! My Headless gets pride of place on a standard A frame stand on the floor - everything else is up on the wall.

First of all, what valves are in the preamp? If they include the usual quartet of Sovtek valves - or indeed any that have seen better days, then purchasing some low noise & drive tested valves will be a great benefit. (The Sovteks are just stock valves and I'm yet to find a set that I like the feel or sound of) Yes, dropping in a quality 5751 in the output section will help to reduce noise, but obviously you are also limiting the amount of output swing you can get to drive you poweramp with. Having a word with HotRox or Watford Valves will give you an idea what is available. My favourites for the SVP and well.. pretty much any valve pre actually are the Harma Diamond STR 12AX7 or the premium JJ ECC83S (Which is exactly the same valve) and Philips ECG 12AU7 for the other position. I've only ever owned one 5751, a GE with a ridiculously long title: GE "JG5751 Triple Mica Black Plates" - but it is described as built like the proverbial out house and certainly has the least amount of hiss or nose of all the valves I have put in the same pre position. Ok, rambling over heh heh!

Has anyone tried the new SLIM C shape precision neck?

Hi, I'd assume it's just a take on one of their other neck profiles - maybe a flatter radius and more shallow neck profile. I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the big chunky necks and look for (what I believe is known as) A profile necks for 4 stringers. 70's P basses (and certainly the non-export CIJ/MIJ 70's RI's) have such a profile. It's far more like a Jazz bass neck, with a smaller nut width. Being on the skinny side, I find them faster to navigate. I've no idea if it's any help, but I have a Jazz Bass Special which I understand has the profile of a 62 Jazz Bass neck and my 70's CIJ P bass feels very similar - maybe the 'american special' also has a jazz-a-like neck? -
I've recently purchased a Zoom Q3HD from Mark. Arrived *before* I paid for it - which is super trust worthy and therefore a big thumbs up ;o) Brilliant bit of kit too!

I think I could give him a spec of what I wanted then let him get on with it and know that I'd love the outcome. Infact, my six string headless was more like that, but we did spend a huge amount of time discussing my seven string, so I guess he knew exactly what I did and didn't want ha!! 'Jerrold Tiers' who works/worked for Ampeg and has written tons of stuff about the SVP on the forum. The hammerite faced version as I understand it featured a different lay out internally due to mains borne noise in the blackface version. However, upgrading to best quality (read as low noise) valves went a long way to cutting down the problem, but I do recall as engineer pointing out that the DI had a hum on my old blackface model. I've also owned a US hammerite unit which was great - yet another thing I sold but wish I could have kept - but that's GAS for you. I can't comment on the physical internal layout as I never owned the two units at the same time to compare. YMMV yahda yahda yahda. -

Sounds like a cool idea! - There are some modules on the (now fairly old) Tc Electronics GForce that allowed a player to control parameters of all of the effects blocks in the same way. I really liked my TC, so I think this is a great idea. for example, speeding up delays as you play a higher pitch or swelling between tremolos and phasers depending on how hard you play adds some real depth to a sound.

The main 'volume' of tapping is in the mids and trebles and by boosting those frequencies instead of just cranking the volume will get yourself heard, but your amp won't have to work as hard. Actually a couple of good examples would be Billy Sheehan and John Myung, whose mids are boosted quite a lot to overcome big guitar sounds. Speaker cabinets can have a big effect on a tapping tone too - if you use only 15" speakers - they *could* be lacking in upper mids and thus will have to boost them on EQ to be heard. Some cab manufacturers, such as Epifani have an accentuation in the upper mids which is great for a nice modern tone. I owned an Epifani UL610 for a while and it was a really nice cab for soloing with as well as moving some bottom end air too!

[/quote] I could be wrong, but I believe yours was the same series as mine - ND610s and mine were ND410s from Tech Soundsystems. The Tec Amp L610 looks more like an Ampeg SVT610 in dimensions - oh unless you had a Tec one after the ND you had? Either way - I did love my Techs and I was an idiot to sell them! One day I'll learn!!!!
