Yup and as Yorick says - you only need a couple of spots - as this will make removal easier should any remedial work be required in the future.
However if you want a Conklin 7 string bass then really only Conklin will be able to build it for you.
Good point well made - When I flip that around on my own circumstances - Yes, I'd probably have *still* had a Shuker even if he lived in the US. So I've learned something today!
-
I went to the London Bass Guitar Show to go try these, as Hartke were there - but I spent all day talking I didn't plug a single Bass in for the duration. The switchable impedance is a great idea - I see Epifani have also used a similar system in some of their cabs. If these babies sound anything like the rest of the Hydrive range, they're gonna be great! Calling TinyViking! I believe he has a pair of HX112's. Now let me see - my LH1000 can drive down to 2 Ohms on each channel.. I believe that's 8 HX112's in 8Ohm mode! )

I too have owned the GTBD-7 - mine was a nice red one and sold to a guy in Spain before I got my Shukers. - I'd certainly recommend keeping your eyes open for a secondhand one. You can pretty much expect to pay a good 25% extra on top of the UK equivalent of the US price when importing a bass due to all the various charges, tax and shipping - which for an £800 bass is probably more easy to swallow vs a £1500+ My personal opinion, taking the point made by skej21 is that I'm certainly more inclined to put that extra money toward after sales care / servicing of a complete custom instrument instead of losing it to Customs and Excise. I'd be less worried about driving my Bass up to Shuker than sending off back to the US too. That said - Conklin basses are great and I had really great comms with Bill (and TalkBass' John Turner who owns rather a large collection of Conklins!) when I was looking for mine - which incidently came from eBay USA!! - The GTBD-7 is a 'stock' signature instrument.
Pretty much got it sorted now Going for an SMX, cheers for the advise all
Oops - sorry - didn't see the lat post of the thread before mine - oh well - I'll leave it for the sake of information!
Again, it requires a bit of a budget-stretch (and I believe it's actually three-band), but the TC Electronic Nova Dynamics is rather lovely and it includes a gate too.
Yes - one of these! - I've owned several multiband compressors and found that the third mid band of the Nova is that extra bit of control that the Multicomp doesn't have. Oh - and the pedal is actually TWO pedals in one box. Each individual pedal gives you the option of a multiband Compressor, or a full band compressor or a noise gate. You can run both at the same time. Both halves alos feature 'Parallel compression' that will aloow you to mix a dry signal in too which will give you a nice big fat sound. Highly recommended. One of my students picked one up for £80 this week - I believe it's new too.
I've thought about getting a pedal based preamp & running that into my FX-Loop aswell, has anyone tried the Tech 21 Leeds/Oxford? (I'm not much for the Ampeg voicing, so that puts me off the VT Bass abit)
Well, unless I'm mistaken - certainly for the BDDI , it's 'speaker simulation' has a massive scoop in the mids and is likely to make things worse for you. I am making an assumption based on the fact that I haven't tried the Leads or Oxford models that they may do the same.
Stock tubes/valves tend to be budget based economic choices, depending on the sort of preamp, they can make a pretty big difference.
+1 there!
-
I see your basses have active electronics - in which case, turn the bass and treble down a little on the instrument and turning LH's volume up will have the same effect as boosting the mids (along with truning the bass control on the amp down too).

I actually sat tight and watched intently start to finish - tasteful and spot on performance, thanks for posting!
A BSP Pre *AND* a V-Type Pre Dan? roflcopter
After an interesting discovery - I found that schematically, there are similarities between the V-Type and Clean section of the BSP and thus wouldn't be gaining by having one sadly. I can however vouch for the quality and sound of these preamps as I used to own one a while back. They are very good indeed!
It's a sign! You should keep it and put it through your Hartke cabs! (which I'll bet sounds amazing)
It actually does Chris! - I've tried it through a good selection of cabs including my monster Hartke rig and the 'shaping' controls on the head are brilliant for re-voicing. Yeah, awesome lil amps!

My foray in to Bass started I'm sure like many others - I plyaed guitar first, because I didn't really know much about the Bass guitar when I was aged 8 or so - but I soon discovered the low end and I'd began on Bass in earnest around age 12 and had my first Bass guitar aged 13. I never stopped playing guitar as well and we had a pinao in the house too. It wasn't long before my brother took up drums so I had that to fiddle on at times too! Later on I played lead guitar in a local metal band for 6 years or so, whilst my Bass took a back seat. Feeling the call of the low end whilst experiencing the demise of said band, I moved to full time ERBs and have been there ever since. I have guitars that I play all the time and keys in the house as well. I think it's very important for a bass player to have an understanding of other instruments too, especially to play some drums!

AmpliTube 3.5 guitar and bass amp software is now free
Dood replied to Brian @ IK's topic in General Discussion
Been a big fan of Ampeg SVX for quite sometime - so 3.5 being free is great news. Good work IK Multimedia! -

Amplitube 3.5 is free and now in 64 bit version

Cheers Dave! Much appreciated! -
A fantastic endorsement Andy! - My old rack rig was a wash of compressors and effects and all sorts of gubbins. Any doubts I had about the LH1000 were very quickly quashed when I turned up at the first rehearsal with it and my two Hydrive cabs. I ran it absolutely clean with no drive or anything but still I had everything I wanted from the head alone. I'm amazed that unlike other manufacturers, Hartke have chosen not to put a ridiculous price tag on a tried and tested valve preamp - but instead crammed a very powerful power amplifier in the same box as well! I think the only upgrade I may be tempted by would be the Hartke Kilo when it comes out in August - but even then, I think it'll only be a GAS attack as I don't think I actually *need* the other functions to get a great sound, it's there already! If anyone has a GAS attack and an LH head comes up for sale - get one, they really are impressive!

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate the kind responses! I've got some more cool news in the pipeline, but you'll have to wait for that! - I have however just come back from seeing the Derren Brown SvenGali show. OMG!!! Yeah, that guy is awesome!

Hey Shep! Ahhh no mate, not stealing thunder at all! I think it was great news and I'm glad to see that you are sharing it with the community! Good on you! Well done fella, it's awesome!
Just make sure they don't fob you off with American cables that won't work on UK voltages...
Dammit! I've been had! They all have the wrong plugs on the end! lol lol!
