BUYER FEEDBACK

Thom, who are you refering to? I can edit the thread title so that it's easier for people to see who the feedback is for
  2. I've just taken delivery of a rack case from Tony - Brilliant comms and super fast delivery! Thank you!
  3.
Been trying for a Guinness endorsement for years.
Now that would be the big one to get! Yeah, I like that! Nommmmmm!
  4.
Has anyone got their hands on a Hartke kilo amp head yet, or even heard one in the flesh? I see some UK stores are advertising them but i was at the London bass guitar show recently and Hartke didn't even have one on their stand, which makes me wonder if the stores advertising them actually have any. The prices look really good, especially when you compare them to an SVT, Peavey VB3 or a Laney Nexus. Any thoughts?
There's literally only the 'prototype(s)' out in the wild at the moment - One owned by Billy Sheehan. As I understand it, the units used at NAMM were ear marked for another show and thus couldn't be delivered to the LBGS. I'm just waiting on an update from my buds at Hartke UK for an update - but we should see some filtering through soon as they ahve gone in to production as far as I know. Do I have an opinion on them? well, if they start by sounding as good as the LH1000 it's gonna be AWESOME! - especially as there are a number of extra features, such as the EQ, valve drive and a compressor, true stereo, dual mono or bridged operation. Prices are very good for the LH range, so I am sure the Kilo will drop in at a deal making price too! I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one! Looking at adverts for the Kilo - there was actually a v.1 front panel design that (obviously) never made it to the shops. I'm shocked to see internet outlets still advertising them for sale! You could actually order and pay for one - and then have to go to all the trouble of finding they are 'out of stock'... no, not out of stock - they don't exist!! Old layout design advertised: New layout not on sale yet:
  5.
If you were offered an endorsement and could get the bass or amp for free, would you use it because it cost you nothing, despite the fact that you didn't really like it? Personally, I wouldn't.
God no! I'm far too fussy about my gear! I'm a techy and a geek! ha! - I'm also pretty fussy about the relationship with the company too. An endorsement should be a two way 'agreement' and thus free gear, although very nice is only part of the deal. I'd want an endorsing company to believe in me as well as vice versa. I'm very lucky to have some great people looking after me and I have no reason to want to change that. So a big shout out to some great companies from me
  6.
Speaking of cows farting,,,,, here is a vid I did yesterday whilst trying out my new Zoom Q3HD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FE3FGgjGrs
Excellent! Fankx FH. I have been thinking about grabbing a Q3HD - though it's not too high on the priority list at the moment - it's great to see it in action!
  7.

"It wasn't me", as Shaggy once said.
  8. Whilst in a discussion about heavy gauge strings, I thought it'd be nice to bump this thread up for new basschatters to take a look at my build diary. Hope you enjoy!
  9.
Good grief! Much heavier than that and it'd be used on the National Grid!
Heh heh - I seem to remember that in my original build diary for my 7 string (when this forum was known as Bassworld.. or BassTalk, I forget which it was at the time) it was suggested that some of the cables from the Severn Bridge were removed to build my bass [edit] ahh it appears it was Bassworld at the time: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry97349
  10. Make that a .194!! http://www.conklinguitars.com/bass_strings.html
  11. I use a .175 gauge for my low F# on my 7 string. It will quite happily tune to a G and I would recommend it over a standard 145 for example. I used to use a Warwick Dark Lord single .175 on the bottom of a six string set - but I moved back to Rotosound when they started manufacturing the Drop Zone strings. All of their strings are available as singles and I would talk to whoever supplies your strings to buy the gauges you want. Stringbusters have been mentioned already and I recommend them too. I've used Newtone myself as well for completely custom strings in the past and they were very helpful with a great quality product but back then a .175 was out of the question. I've no idea if it's something they can do now or not. The highest gauge strings I am aware of are either S.I.T or Conklin strings used by Jauqo III amongst ohers and IIRC they weigh in at a cazy .190 gauge for a low C# below my F#!
  12.
Ah it's starting to make sense now So do I buy JJ or Harma? Sorry for the questions!
heh heh! Don't apologise! That's what we're here for! - Well if you go somewhere and buy a premium tested (for noise and microphonics etc) JJ ECC83S, the chances are the price won't be much different from a Harma STR from Watford Valves. That said though, I don't really know what tests one company does vs another and therefore have no leanings. Derek at Watford Valves has been really helpful to me in the past though and I've not had anything to worry about with the Harmas yet.. I've revalved nearly all my valve gear with Harmas too and as I say, I think they are a great improvement over a stock Sovtek. Watford Valves do sell the JJ badged version too, but I don't know if they are a tested version.
  13. Yup, I owned one - great little cab. I love the tweeters on the Accugroove gear, very pleasing to my ear. It's certainly a very capable cabinet - does a nice full sound, but no matter what the marketing spiel suggests - it still is only a 2x10 and has limitations set by physics! A pair stacked is a very effective and portable rig too.
  14.
I had a chat with them on the phone but I couldn't understand a lot of what he was saying most of the time because he was talking quietly.. he said something about 'STR HARMA' and a harma retro... any idea what that means?
The Harma brand is Watford Valves' own. They select quality valves and drive test them to 'premium' standard and the best ones get badged with the Harma name and logo. In a report on their website they say that the Harma Diamond STR is a replica of the Telefunken ECC803s / Telsa E83CC made by JJ Valves. I'm actually a fan of these - I like how they sound - I've owned both the Harma versions and the JJ versions. I would choose either of these over a Sovtek any day, but that's just my taste. The Harma Retro is also also an ECC83 (which is a like for like 12AX7) - but this one is a recreation of the Mullard ECC83. As far as I recall, they were interested in finding a valve that sounded like the Mullard vs one that was constructed the same. On the subject of Sovtek - they are a huge manufacturer and companies such as ElectroHarmonix and GT rebadge Sovteks for their own distribution.
  15. Ahh cool, you have beaten me to an answer then! On the subject of customer service though - Gareth and the team are top notch!!! For those who were at the London Bass Show, he was there with the Hartke stand. I too am hitting the waiting list for the Kilo - in the meantime, the LH1000 sounds brilliant! Really happy with it - I've always been a 'graphic EQ, buttons lights and switches' kinda guy - but that tone stack EQ is really flexable because those tone controls interact with each other in a nice 'musical' way. Anyway, if I hear of any more details in the meantime, I'll post 'em up!
  16.
oh my word, you cant sell this, they are awesome!!! !!!
Have you repaired your party wall since turning yours up past '2' in the front room?
  17. Yeap, big high five for all the team at Rotosound. They (including Jason and John at LBGS this weekend) have always bent over backwards to help me. Behind the scenes is a great lady called Coral who works tirelessly dealing with orders. Thanks Coral, absolutely brilliant! Infact, expect an interesting (I hope) post from me re: Rotosound in (hopefully) the next few days!
  18. These lovelies are actually mine! Just Dood It...
Then this'll be worth catching: http://readytorumbleunsigned.co.uk/r2r/new...s-out-at-heat-3 Not to mention I'll be pulling some pretty crazy moves with Beta earlier in the night also
[edited post] - I had a lil rant reply earlier as the image used on the page belongs to me and features Nigel, Jason How, myself and Billy Sheehan - By the wonders of the internet, I've had a chat with the site author and he has kindly credited and name checked the picture. Jobs-a-goodun!
  20. Love this thread! Go for it stef030! I know that this fine community will be behind you all the way! Welcome back to the low end!
  21.
How weird. For some reason, I always thought Sheldon Dingwall looked like Leland Sklar. Nevermind. Truckstop
Heh heh! It's funny you build up images of what people - or for example what Basschatters look like through the forum - and then it's interesting to find out what they really look like in reality. Well.. I think it is anyway! - Really good to put faces to names at weekends - just wish there was more time to meet more of ya!
  22.
Aye, but there are strings attached...
da-dummm.. tishhhhhhhh!!!!!! ahhhhh very good!!!
  23.
I was just thinking - I started playing bass 31 years ago aged 16 and through all the ups and downs I've experienced in my life, playing bass has been the most consistent refuge for me. I love being a bassist!!!
Absolutely the same for me 100% - I started guitar when I was probably about 9 and Bass properly from the age of 13. I absolutely can not see a day when I will stop - a more permanent fixture in my life than a tattoo! Spread the love!
