you won't be disappointed
Hell no! Mine is on practically every day now and I still keep finding new sounds I like in it - just off the three controls!

Eddy, if you go over to the Bass Gear Magazine website and view Issue 3 online there is a review of the LH1000. When you look at the graphs, it's actually quite hard to give a precise answer due to the interactivity between the passive tone stack. However, you'll see that the boost/cuts are really wide. Instead of me trying to describe it - it's probably best to read the review. Bass Gear Magazine is absolutely awesome and their attention to details in testing is more akin to automotive and audiophile magazines, which is brilliant! Hi Galaxy, Certainly the reviews for the LH500/1000 speak for themselves here on Basschat and talk bass (The 500 being the amp in the 5210C & 5410C) - 'bang for buck' they have been a resounding success. I own two Hartke 4x10 cabs and I think that the LH heads really compliment the cabinets well. I have to say that the 5410C will reward you with some great (and loud) sounds. The only thing that you might wanna take in to consideration is that for the modern bass player, it seems that anything over about 28Kg is heavy! You might just wanna opt for a separate head and cabinet if like me you have back issues!
This is my plan certainly. We could turn it into an unofficial BC bass bash Maybe we should also wear badges with our avatars on for quick recognition as was once suggested for another bash.
Hmmm good idea!

I'm going! - I'd love to meet up with any BassChatter going. I guess I'll wear my BassChat top to make myself known!
Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have any idea about Inner Ear Headphones? The larger ones is what he's got just now and he'd prefer more discrete (sp?) ones. Dave
Yup, the reputable brands all make really good IEMs both in 'moulded' or 'push in' types. I'd recommend looking at reviews for Shure, Etymotic Research and Ultimate Ears to start with.
Same here - I swear by mine. I have the molded ones with ER15 filters in them and I've rarely done a gig without them since 2000. Well worth the money - think of it as a few quid a year to protect your hearing for the rest of your life.
Another Plus The One here too. I also vary between 15dB and 25dB filters. The ER20's are great considering they are so cheap. Be sure to make sure you are wearing them properly though - as if they are not seated correctly, you may as well not be wearing 'em at all as you either won't be protecting yourself - or you won't be hearing music clearly. I would very much advise everyone to get moulded plugs - I've said this often, they may be more expensive than the cheap off the shelf types - but they sound better, are more comfortable to wear and protect your hearing far better. How much is your hearing worth?!

I'm afraid following clarification over acceptable items for sale in the 'Other Musically Related Stuff' forum - General music CD's and DVDs are no longer...errr acceptable! I feel I could have written that sentence better!! Have a look here for details Clarification Of Acceptable Items which is a sticky at the top of this forum.
The T-bird arrived today. A quick check to see that all is well with the pickups before complete dismantling. There will be some repair work to be done - the holes left by the posts for the three way bridge will need filling with mahogany dowel. That'll be the first job. Plus I'll get to work raising some project funds by selling the bits I don't need. I took a wee photo of the body with the bridge resting on it: Chunky
Chunky, but looks somehow right
Hey, thanks Dood. Wasn't sure about the berhinger unit tbh. would need a 15 metre mains lead! Otherwise I think my mind is made up - just need to save the pennies for a while. Mind you - had the smell of burning voice coils outta one of ma speakers last practice - hopefully I haven't completely fried it- will need to tone down the volume I think. Anyway - thanks to all for the advice :-)
No problem! There's actually a guy advertising an FCB on my FaceBook for £60 at the moment if it helps the finances a bit..

I adore Buckeye! My first Shuker was a Buckeye fest - and the thought of a maple board on a Buckeye body does things to me! heh heh! Here's my ole Shuker on the website. I sold it to a very fine gentleman by the name of 'Platypus' Maybe one day I'll get a headless with maple board and buckeye facings again!

Hmmm, it has just occurred to me that it could have been possible to copy the old Fender 'Photofinish' basses. (Or was it Yamaha??) Underneath the glossy clear lacquer top coat wasn't a beautiful bit of flame maple, it was a photograph of said wood placed on to the facings of the bass. Maybe it'd be possible to do a glossy print of a chequerboard pattern and lacquer over the top of it in the same way?

I've just been rambling on another thread about changing a 12AX& for a 5751. I've definitely noted differences which I think will be the kinda thing you need to tame your amp. You don't have to spend a fortune to grab a couple of 5751's to test the theory with either.

Wow! Love the white Epi edit - Looks really cool! - I just had a fleeting thought with ref to the tuners. You *might* need to rout under the thumbscrews to make room for them to turn if the bridge is sitting in on the body as you have pictured. If it turns out that the bridge can hang off the back of the body, then no problem. Here's my Shuker to illustrate what I mean: Or hanging off the back of the body as in this Shuker
I am conflicted, confused, possibly deranged. From a single photo I've seen of Dood's rig - an LH1000 coupled with a TC electronic G-Major 2 I now have a hankering to expand my palette of sounds and aural landscapes by getting one of these units. Playing in a three piece sort of prog rock style outfit; so there is scope and space for some whacky noises (tastefuly done obviously). I've asked Dood who liked his I think - I cheekily asked him to do a review but he's a busy talented chap so I thought I'd ask the wider community... Q - Has anyone any experience with the G-Major 2?? especially with bass? Q - How about with any midi controlled effects like this - I'd like to know if there is any noticable delay between switching patches? Q - Should I just stick with my two pedal setup - bass-multi-chorus and DD-3 delay? I may have to re-mortgage to afford this terrible GAS attack. bugger.
Ahhh, sorry fella! I'll try to answer as many questions as I can on this thread and if I get a moment, I'd love to do an HQ video of the GM2 in action. To start with though: in answer to your second question - no, you can set the GM2 up for seemless patch changes, which also means that the delays / reverbs and other time based effects spill over to the next patch change, thus sounding smooth and natural. Pedal boards - pretty much any board can be configured with the GM2 as it can 'learn' the pedal board output - OR you have the option of programming the board to the CC/Midi implementation of the GM2. Either will work, but I prefer to leave the pedal board as default and configure the GM2. I personally use the Roland FC200, which is brilliant - it has now been superseded by the FC300. I've also used the rather 80's looking Art Ultrafoot. Again, a brilliant board. I think most people go for the Behringer FCB - It's actually really well made and I know of at least two units that survived a 'tech metal' band European tour and probably still work to this day! Racking up the GM2 is quite happy in a shallow Gator case. I think I might need to get a 4u over my current 3u as I have more items to go in now! DOH! Ahhh what else can I tell you? Well - I think the external channel switch relays on the unit is great - It can be programmed to channel switch your amp or non MIDI effects as part of a patch change, which is very cool! Mine is sat here twinkling away at me right now - which has reminded me, you can download software to edit patches/back up on your PC and upload them straight to the unit - though to be honest, the TC is really simple to edit so I haven't reinstalled the software since my last PC rebuild!
Basically, I'm getting more into slap bass and "modern" bass tones, so I thought it would probably be time to move on from my current P-Bass + Flats combination to something a bit more suitable. I was told EMGs sounded great, and after giving them a listen on the EMG website however, they sound pretty fantastic. I'm not sure if that's down to Bobby Vega, the guy who does the samples, and his setup, or the actual pickups themselves. I'm also debating whether or not the "X-series" are worth £30 more than the normal ones. Judging by the clips on the website, I feel they are, but the pickups were put in two different basses with different setups, so other factors may have affected the sound. And not wishing to sound cynical, but EMG may have made the X-Series sound better than the plain EMGs on purpose so that punters pay the premium for the improved preamp and what not... Is it worth getting EMGs, or should I just get a new bass (Jazz/Stingray/etc) already? Links: EMG P EMG PX Thanks guys, Phil
I'm a big fan of active EMG pickups and electronics. I've been using them for years, including P style soapbars. My current basses have DC soapbars in. If I were to upgrade either of my P basses, I'd certainly not hesitate in saying that they can do a modern slap sound with said pickups on board. EMGs have a nice sparkly top end and can do a real fat bottom end. Mine aren't the X version - though I'd like to give them a try to see what the difference is.

Hey Owen - Funnily, I had a similar view of an EH valve I had in a pre once. Just use the valve as preamp as normal. I've read various reviews saying the likes of "oh it will need 8 hours of playing before it has settled" etc - but there's nothing else you have to do other than use it! The Tung Sol is a good valve for sure! - I'm not sure on the situation now, but they were manufactured by EH at the Reflecktor factory in Russia - either before or after that the New Sensor corporation bought the name, but manufacture stayed at the same factory. Either way, it should reward you with a good tone. the EH yellow badged 12AX7's are Sovtek valves and usually the same models as GT, because both companies buy Sovteks in and rebadge them.

Well it has been a long day running A/B's in my Hartke head. Some interesting results though not necessarily unexpected! So here's how the day played out - I will do my best to not be biased! I ran up my amp head and left it for a good 20mins to settle. I spent about the next half an hour playing Bass with the EQ set to 'flat' and also bypassed the preamp so I could get a feel for the tone of the amp without a valve in the signal path at all. (Which in itself is quite a difference!) After playing for a while I decided it was time to transplant. Out came the JJ ECC83 and in went the NOS GE 5751 pictured previously. Same thing again - leave for 20 mins and come back for a play. I've repeated the above about four or five times throughout the day and so far I am happy with my thoughts on how the two valves sound. I realise that the JJ has accrued about 20 hours use, maybe more and the 5751 is considered NOS. I'd be interested to see how it compares in a few months time after being thrashed a bit! The volume and tone controls stayed in the same position each time. However after the final run through I experimented with different settings to check for noise and what effect the valves had on the tone controls. The results: The first 3 differences I noticed straight away when I plugged in the 5751. - A drop in overall output volume - Well, this I was expecting as the 5751 has a lower gain value. no problem. My basses have a very hot output which means that with the JJ valve my volume control on the amp is pretty low, even live. Still plenty of travel for that dial to go to add the volume back. - A dramatic drop in background noise from the preamp. Especially when engaging the bright switch. I'm used to hearing additional hiss - yes, there still was, but greatly attenuated. - Even when I compensated for the drop in gain of the 5751 using the volume control to make up the output level - however, without that additional background hiss. - Earlier in the thread I referred to the 'upward compression' of the 12AX7. Gotta say there was much less of this effect with the 5751. Myles Rose advised me this would be the case and I will see how I get on with it - or rather without it!! I think I miss it. Hmmmm There were a few more subtle differences. I think, to my ears that the upper mids are less..errrm.. 'in your face'. I can't really describe it really. They're not scooped - just less obvious in comparison to the JJ. I feel this maybe because the JJ is meant to be a clone of a Telefunken/Tesla valve that is particularly good in microphone preamps as it accentuates frequencies in the female vocal range. I've read this many times and if this test is anything to go by, I'm inclined to agree. Not that my fiddling today has been even remotely technical! The top end when ran up through my monitors is absolutely pristine. New strings sound just lovely! - I was expecting some additional bottom end prowess from the GE but I hadn't noticed a big difference if any. But lets give the lil fella a few hours to break in and then I'll go back and test again. Ok, I've been playing CD's through the preamp for about two hours now, driving it fairly hard. I have to say that I *do* notice a difference in the sound. I'm afraid it's difficult to quantify the difference in terms of descriptions - but if I kept it really simple and said that the 5751 sounded clearer and more pleasing to my ear than the JJ then that's good enough. I'll try to expand on that if any of you can't get to sleep tonight and need something to do instead of counting sheep!!!! That's about it for now - More rambling to come soon! [edit] - Been playin music through the amp for a good few hours now and decided to drop my bass on for a bit of a jam. It appears that I now have a lot more bottom end than I did earlier! In a good way too!
