Think it's a general electric of sum sort... I use the the green label jan 5751 GE in my Vox.
I posed the same question on my Facebook earlier and got another answer that is near as damn it right! It is indeed a GE. it's a NOS 5751 - manufactured in 1958! Again, for those of a geeky tendancy - it's a black plates, triple Mica. Can't wait to get the wee beast installed!
oh another remake thats nothing like the original
Technically it's not a remake - as these particular Harma valves are all premium tested JJ's. Despite it not being a perfect replica of the Telefunken / Tesla E83CC it's still a bloody good valve for the money. I rate them.

p.s. - who is geeky enough to try identify this one then?

Well the cheeky lil chappy has arrived. I don't think I'm gonna get time to install it or do any proper listening tests till tomorrow - but I thought a teaser would be nice for ya! Dood
For my birthday yesterday, the missus very kindly gave me a Digitech JamMan Stereo looper.
I have one too!
...I heart looping. Dan
Yep, me too! I haven't spent as much time as I would like with the pedal as I find I have other stuff to do and sort out - but I'm really impressed. I've got a few ideas that I have been meaning to YouTube which could be helpful - but as I say, I just haven't found the time to slot the recordings in! It really depends on the piece I am playing as to how I go about presenting it (say to a listener). The simplest way to describe how I like to attack the pedal is the 'Tony Hart method' (ha) - You know how he'd draw a load of seemingly random lines on a piece paper then in a final flourish it'd all come together as an amazing picture? I like doing that - else I can't help thinking that the audience will get really bored of listening to 16 bars of a rhythm on it's own whilst I work out what to do next! The only thing I really would like in a looper, but my budget wasn't going to allow it - would be to be able to set different loop lengths for each layer. I have a free software looper that can do this and I prefer the freedom this allows. For example - a 4 bar 'drum' turnaround looping with an 8 bar bass line and so on. but as I found out, for a hardware looper of this kind (such as looperlative) things get a bit more expensive.
Agreed, but surely the mighty Zeus could do the job himself?
Yeh I reckon Zeus would be up for that, he was a drummer after all! -"Annnnnd on the drums... the God of Thunder himself....."

Interestingly, I've always wanted to play through a Pork Loin or Green Rhino as they seemed pretty suited to bass. Will give these a look when I get a chance.
Later, in a bid to widen their appeal, they were joined by trombonist Tommy Still, but they were Still, Norfolk 'n' Tallent
That's not the same time as Sax player Garrat Broke was it? I thought they did work together as Still Broke, Norfolk n Tallent.
If memory serves me correctly, Goggle once formed a DnB duo with the rapper Titchie Tallent. I believe they went under the name 'Norfolk 'n' Tallent'..?
Yes, indeed that it true. There's a few pubs in the county that still have their posters framed. Ahhhhh, there was this time Goggle was in his playing zone and spun on his heels - knocked Tallent's horn rimmed glasses clean off. How we laughed as Titchie tried to come back in to the last section of the 15/16 turnaround of the epic 'The Railways of North Norfolk part 2' - deary me, it was like watching a train wreck!

I nearly went for the Jan Philips, but I managed to bag myself a bit of a special 5751 - I thought I'd treat myself! Details to follow, but I think I'll keep you all waiting!
If Hartke Made XL or Hydrive 212s i'd own one by now! The XL cabs sound awesome
They used to and you might still be able to pick up a 2200. PeteD and Fretmeister both own/have owned the 2x12XLs and I think they sound great - I'm a big fan of the XL range, speshly the 4.5XL http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...8&brandID=3 I saw a conversation on TalkBass with Larry and he'd said (at the time) there wouldn't be any reason to make a HyDrive 2x12 as it would be just the same as two 112's anyway - I think he'd said that he wanted to keep the range simple and easy to manage. Now, I've no idea if demand has changed that more recently - I think a tallboy 2x12, which appears to be an 'in' design would possibly fill a gap. Who knows!
Dood - that's interesting that you have those values for the "reference" setting - did you work those out yourself? - I got advice from Uncle Larry direct... "Remember that the LH-1000 has a "tone stack" EQ and the flat reference setting is bass 3, mids 10, treble 0. Setting all the controls at noon will give you a scooped midrange sound. Read the manual and you will get the idea. There are only three knobs so set them where they sound good for you and your bass!" Yeah, me and Larry, we're like that... mkay!
Nah, although I have used the Tone Stack calculator featured in a previous post - I'd read about the Fender Tone Stack settings via TalkBass. Yes it does vary between amps using the schematic design as component values are fettled with I guess!, hence why I'd said 'around' 2-10-2 to be on the safe side. Thinking about it, I think I may have even had a similar message from Larry too, but I had some inbox issues a while back and seem to be missing some mail! grr! Actually, whilst on the subject, I think it's brilliant that you can talk directly to him and he gives you time and honest answers - and you don't have to be a mega star or a huge corporation. Nice touch Larry! Anyway, I digress - for me my mid control is pretty much up on ten, treble usually about two then I mix bass to taste, sometimes with a little bit from my bass instead. The tweeters on both my Hydrive 4x10's are set to the -6dB setting. I'm using EMG actives and preamps which have a really clear top and deep bottom end, so pulling back the tweeters just takes the edge off a bit!

Wow! Marmite anyone? heh heh!! Quite a split in opinions eh!

The Headless bass is an absolute god send for me.. I really wish I'd gotten one years ago! All of the advantages listed above and I see no disadvantages verses a headed bass at all. If you are used to playing a 6 or 7 string bass, the headstock and tuning keys can actually be a noticeable addition to the weight of the instrument when you think about them hanging off the end of a neck, bearing down on your shoulder. For those with back and shoulder complaints, it makes sense to try to remove any undue aggravation! Sometimes I think that my Shuker 7 string should have been a headless bass too! As for dead spots.. nep, Jon Shuker's basses don't have dead spots!
Back onto the clean tone thing... (I don't run my sound 100% that often) how intense is the mid scoop of the LH? I've read over on american sites and 'that' forum, that you need to but the mid control to 10 to get a mild scoop and other wild things and many conflicting peices of information so please clarify for me
Just a quick reply - well - in the case of the LH preamps, due to the 'Fender Tone Stack' passive EQ - the 'flat' setting (as near to bypass that you are likely to get) is around Bass=2 Mid=10 Treble=2. Therefore from a flat setting you can up the bass and treble drastically from the 2 point. You can also pull the mids right back from 10 to scoop them out deeply. All three controls are interactive so it's possible to get a huge range of 'curves' from just three controls. The flat setting will be kinda similar for any preamp using the same tone stack design, such as the Alembic F1-X, The BSP clean channel and the Trace Elliot V-Type.
I always wondered, can you push the valve in this into distorting? (Or because of the way the pre-amp designed that can't happen or?) As the SVP BSP I (and now Dood as well!) Have, has a Valve for the Overdrive channel and thats one of THE best overdrives i've ever heard I'm planning on getting a GK neo cab and might get a LH500 to go with I know they are designed to stay clean but at (crazy deafening from what i hear!) high volumes does it break up? Anyone got any sound clips? Not much on the net
Yeah, if you push the pre hard enough it will distort, but I think the original design was meant to be clean with tons of head room which is what I prefer the head to do. I like that I can push it hard enough and the natural valve compression handles my active basses nicely, but I don't make it bark. I'd prefer to do the 'dirt' elsewhere in the signal chain so that I know that I can always arrive back at a beautiful clean tone. The LH1000 nails that - and that's not just being biased - i think the simplicity of the head and lack of opamp junk makes it a brilliant sound. Ok, the BSP - sit down mate, you're in for a shock! Yes there is a valve in the preamp that feeds the clean channel. The signal is then fed to the distortion channel afterward. The tube circuit it self isn't design to drive, much like the LH.. infact - it's pretty much the same schematic for both the LH preamp and BSP clean section. The dirty channel is a familiar distortion pedal design with a bit of shaping to stop it sounding fizzy. Although, as you know - it can do if you want it to! I have ran the two clean preamps in parallel for an AB session - I am pretty sure that the differences are down to the totally different valves types in each and a few component value changes. They both sound great though - the LH does pip the BSP at the post for detail and clarity. YUM!! Yes, I have to say that the distortion channel is pretty amazing on the BSP - I'm interested to get my hands on the Hartke Kilo - as I want to know what the distortion channel on that is like!!
My new LH1000 is the dogs danglies as far as I'm concerned: produces the range of tone I like and has bags of power to compete with a g***ist who has 2 x 4x12 cabs. Compared to the old Hartke MOSFET 3500 head it replaced this thing is whisper quiet. only after the g****ist switched off his gear did I get to hear the fan running! I do have a question about this head: is the effects loop in series or parallel? Given that there is no balance control (like wot the 3500 had) I assume it must be series? Dood - we need to know - do you use the "Kill Dry" on or off on that TC unit???
Hey fella! The effects loop is mono serial and therefore I *would* run the TC with the Kill dry off in that position. I say I would, as infact as my basses have such a hot signal I run them straight in to the TC GM2 and then out to the head! It's just so that the compressor on the TC GM2 sits before any EQ in the chain and thus is a bit more controllable and doesn't pump so much. I do use a TC Nova Dynamics as well which is greatly superior to the Compressor on the GM2(Which actually is very good) so kinda negates what I have just said - as I could put the GM2 in the loop and the Nova Dynamics between Bass and amp input! Further to undoing all that I have written so far - the last rehearsal I went to - I only used the LH and a single cab and it was great. Maybe the rack will stay home more often! ha ha!

Using the same method that I recorded the above videos with, here's a recording I did at the weekend of my mate doing his version of the Chimp Spanner track, 'Bad Code'. Once again, this is a single take with a Webcam. I miked the kit and sent the stereo signal from a mixer directly in to my 2 channel interface. My DAW had the backing track that I fed to Carl via the line output on the interface to a sub mixer for his lug ole levels. My laptop recorded the video as well as the audio feed. We only had a certain amount of gear to play with and none of it was specific for recording acoustic instruments! - I'm very pleased with both Carl's playing and my audio and visual engineering! - All post production/ mixing was done with free software on my laptop. Hope ya like the track too! p.s. the click is actually on the backing track supplied.

Wow! That's brilliant! Love the look of the Carlo Robelli 8-string bass too - kinda looks like a custom version of Brian May's Red Special in bass format!

A full time cover band? That's called a Tribute Act isn't it? Sorry, joking aside - JTUK has made some good points. I'd also say that as with starting any business/ going self-employed.. Get yaself on an up to date training course specific to what you want to do and seek as much advice as possible. - Being a full time musician can work for you, but you have to feed the little devil constantly to make him pay back!!

An electronic tuner is a sensitive device - if you are striking the string that hard that is goes out of tune so much that you are unsure of at what point to tune the bass with, then I'd suggest playing the string with a much lighter touch. Old mankey strings full of grease and skin can help to confuse electronic tuners too if they are dull - so it may be time to get a new set on! Finally, if your bass is set up with a really high action and you are tuning at the 5th fret (for example) you may be pulling the bass out of tune simply by fretting the note - which will in turn mean that when you release the string, the 'open string' note will be out of tune in comparison.

Here's mine and several other BCer's basses on the Shuker website! http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/hlgal.htm BigRedX - That single string looks like a lot of fun!! Can you tell us a bit more about it?

It's just upset you called it 'digital' ma matey! Good luck, I hope the bill isn't too large.. which given it's a german D-Class amp - it's probable gonna be SMT circuit boards and thus more of a pain in the bum to fix! I hope it's not expensive!
