Great thread, but actually tough to answer! I'd love to play with Paul Gilbert, Brian May or mebbe John Petrucci. Lovin' Paul 'Chimp Spanner' Ortiz and Misha of Bulb/Periphery fame too! The list could go on and on, - I guess Mr May would be first on the list being a childhood hero/idol.

If this were my Facebook, I would be clicking the 'Like' button right now!

Also, just to add to the mix - a string with a round core, verses a hex core will have a more flexible feel. Quite a few manufacturers will state what type core their strings have.

Given the millions of tracks up on myspace, even halving the file size is a massive saving in running costs. With Myspace losing a lot of business these days, I can imagine that cost saving exercises such as these will become more common place for them as they try to up the profit margins!

IIRC, expect to pay another 25%-28% on top of the price (inc shipping), which will include Customs and Excise duty, Courier charges and VAT. Then don't forget if you are buying from the US, a certain issue with a difference in mains voltage. Some amps are switchable, some require replacement components that can be costly too.

Thanks for the replies guys! It was a bit of a strange question to pose - as in most part we tend to plug in to PA which is capable of reproducing a better quality audio - i.e CD's etc. - Anyone ever tried playing CD's through normal bass guitar cabinets? ruddy awful! ha! - So it was interesting to find out what companies are TRULY manufacturing cabinets that can handle a full range of audio AND actually sound good. Notice I am not sating 'flat response' here - because even most PA cabinets and home HiFi cabinets aren't flat response. - but ones that can reproduce music to a high quality. Then add on top of this, being man enough to handle bass guitar too - indeed being able to be used for say drums and percussion with high SPL transients too. From a size and weight standpoint, the Acme B1 seemed like a good idea, being 3 way. Oh, in response to the 'rig' thing - the plan would only have been for a smaller combo sized solution - again, like the B1 or maybe as far as a 2x10 but not really for full on gigging - just workshops and tutoring when I am out and about. Gigs would be handled by PA and backline.

Hi Krohurte. I'd try at least taking the valves out and reseating them to begin with just in case there is a tarnished contact. Check the switches are working correctly with a multimeter too. I *can* tell you that valve 2 feeds the dirty channel alone and V1 the clean channel, so see if you can try another valve in that position - maybe just swap the two round as they are both the same to see if the problem moves to the clean channel instead. If that doesn't help then it's time to delve a little deeper! The channel switching itself is only controlled by the footswitches, no signal passes through them - so it maybe an 'active switch' (Which are all J175 FETS) that could be messing about. Or - well, I'm loathed to suggest the 'step up' power supply for the valve HT as I'd expect the volume drop to happen on both channels - maybe it could be the power supplying the heaters on V2. There's quite a few possibilities - but at first try the easy stuff, like swapping the valve out! How do you find the V-Twin for bass? I nearly bought one off ebay last year! Rare beasts for sure!

My findings so far about pricing my lessons is that if I do get any reticence over an hourly rate, it's in some part due to the 'customer' not getting actually what goes in to making up that rate. They seem blissfully unaware that like plumbers and electricians, we are (usually) self employed. In a 'normal 9-5' employees get all their sickness covered. Their holiday, perks and taxes mysteriously get worked out for them before what's left gets deposited in their bank accounts. When we break down *our* hourly rate and work out what would go out as taxes, expenses and our holiday and sickness allowances - we don't actually earn that much at £25 per hour. The tendency to 'be nice' and drop our rates is fine if you have so many students chomping at the bit, but in these times where some are struggling, it's still important to put the correct value on what you do and not under sell - value who you are and what you offer. If you under sell, you're not covering your bills. Remember, if you put your prices down, it's much harder to put them back up again. This probably all means diddley-squat if you have no students though and you have to start somewhere!

Excellent! - I'm happy to hear of your findings sir! - Have you also found improvement in the ability to record in low light conditions, as I understood that it was an area of weakness in the original Q3. One of the things I *really* like about the Q3 reviews so far is that unlike most camera 'phones and a lot of digi cams, it doesn't distort loud music. Watch this vid from 1.15 The guy is beating the poop out of his kit and there's no break up. That would be excellent for me when recording rehearsals (in stereo too) direct to the Q3HD.
