1. Amongst my favourites would be: Paul Gilbert and John Pettrucci... yes, I know, I know.. but actually their playing style and approach to their instruments has been a huge influence on me and my playing. Their strings are just thinner ha ha!
  2.
If the East Anglia bash happens, and we both get there, you are welcome to try mine! Sorry Jack, no soundclips yet. I'll see if I can persuade the young master to record a couple while he and the firepod are in the house. There are some interviews with VB-99 users on the Roland website www.rolandus/community/insider but they're a bit heavy on waffle and a bit light on actual soundclips.
Trigger pulled! - I read enough reviews to hopefully give me an idea what to expect then stumped up the wonger for a 6 string set of DR's. They arrived today and I'm having a bit of a play. They sound pretty good so far - not to mention looking pretty funky! I went for Peacock Blue to go with my Shuker's flip paint finish.
  3.
I'm still coming too
Awesome! - I'll try to get down so that I can help you set up - I'm picking up Stag and BassCat too on the way.
  4. Out of interest, is anyone coming along with an ACME cabinet? Just intrigued to try one out again!
  5. Yup, +1 here - I've bought many a valve from Derek Rocco. - Similar experiences too, as we ended up having a very long conversation about tubey goodness! - If his select valves are good enough for Mr May, then that's an endorsement I can live with!
  6. For those who may have missed the long running sticky, full details are here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...t=0&start=0 Please come along and get involved!
  7. Looking forward to it - I'll no doubt be continuing my b'day celebrations in the presence of my fine Bass bretherin!
  8.
Slightly OT but how do you lot play along to GP? Do you play the though an amp / combo or do you plug into the computer and if so what do I need to be able to plug into the PC?
I use a Line6 GX as an interface/soundcard - I open up both GP6 and the Pod software together, choose an amp sound and the whole lot goes straight to my monitors so I can play along.
  9.
yep thats exactly what i heard him say on stage at the bass day
Ahhh cool - I had to leave before he was on stage so missed the masterclass.
  10.
I have recently bought an RH450 2nd hand but appear to have a problem and was wondering if anyone can advise. When i try to set the gain level on the amp the red light overload indicator does not come on i can put it all the way round. I have a shuker jazz bass and mainly play it in passive mode the leads i use are the pro series NP2X-AU-SILENT which i bought from bassdirect. Has anyone got a suggestion to resolve this am i doing something wrong for instance.
First thing to try is another bass as well and see if the problem goes away - then a different lead. What brand and model of pickup is in the Bass? I know there are some with a particularly low output level such as Seymour Duncan ASB actives, in comparison to say EMG pickups - but I would at least expect that you can get enough signal to drive the input gain hard enough to flicker the gain LED! Oh - even though you are running the Bass in passive mode (and correct me as I am not sure what electronics you are using) do you have a fresh battery on board?
  11. Thurbs, E Sharp, that's a very generous offer! That's brilliant guys. I am confident that plenty will come along and that we won't be out of pocket. I haven't seen a 'quiet' bass bash advertised on BassChat yet!
  12. Jon Shuker is based at Hope in the Peak District and is very easy to get to from Manchester. Very highly recommended by many a Basschatter http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/
  13.
I had heard that Billy Sheehan dropped Ampeg because they are now made in China, and he wanted something built in the USA.
When I spoke to Billy recently, it wasn't so much where Ampeg gear was made, it was more how it's made. He certainly wasn't happy with the performance of newer Ampeg gear.

More info' here: http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...3&brandID=3 - Yes, I WILL be trying one - and it's very likely that I will upgrade from the LH1000 if it's the beast I expect it to be!

    ART X15 Manual

Ahhh! I had the Ultrafoot! - The old pink and err blue? version. I upgraded the firmware to what would have been the latest version and it was a great pedal board. Though I thought the design of the opto-sensor strips for the CC pedals was reeeeeally rubbish! Those pieces of plastic would inevitably curl up and make the use of the pedal glitchy far too much for my happiness! ha ha!
  16.
Do yourself a favour and download Reaper - an uncrippled, unexpiring fully functional Demo here It should get on fine with your Alesis mixer and be a whole lot easier to get to grips with than Cubase...
yes yes yes and triple yes more! I use Reaper and long since dumped Cubase for being annoying and a PITA to work *all * the time. Reaper? Faultless!
  17. Hey! Are you the band's new Bass Player? I saw your ad' up on the Djent site.

    Teachers

It's funny you should say that actually Jam, because it appears as a Bass Teacher in Norwich, I am in a serious minority! Lots of guitarists teaching Bass though.
  19.
Anybody tried these? http://stringsbyaurora.com They appeal due to the range of gauges...
Well if nothing else, it's great to finally hear what coated strings sound like! - The Video, although short and uninspiring is enough to suggest that the tone is good off them. Thanks for the heads up - I'm looking for a cheap set of coated 6's to try out at some point soon.
  20. Agreed - Infact if you look at the Status site and then the DR site for their explanations of the tonal differences between the two types of string, You'd be excused for being a bit confused IIRC!
  21. In a word yes! - I'd recommend GP6 too - far superior to GP5 and previous versions that were a bit glitchy. I use GP all the time for notating and learning songs, as there are hundreds of sites offering Guitar Pro versions of songs. If you still want to hang on to Guitar Pro 5 - then it might be worth grabbing TUX which is a program which is very similar to GP and can also open GP files. So, to sum up - at least download the Guitar Pro 6 demo so that you can see how much better it is!

    Rack Compressor
DBX 160X for me.
Yep, like that one - I think a fave in studios is the 160A too.

    Rack Compressor

TC Electronic C300 without a doubt. There are no doubt countless others out there and yes they are great - this one is just brilliant and almost a secret gem! - If you want it in pedal form, grab the TC Electronic Nova Dynamics. Both offer full band, parallel and spectral (three band) compression modes. I actually can't think of many compressors that offer as much functionality, are reasonably priced AND are actually really good! You shouldn't need to spend any more than 100 quid on a second hand one.
  24. I'll add to the list of active EMG fans! I've used the P (soapbar casing) pups in my basses and I really like them! I'm a big fan of the non-exposed pole piece covers too. Great for digging in without the string clicking against the poles.
  25. Ah! McNach beat me to it! ;o)
