What brand and model of pickup is in the Bass? I know there are some with a particularly low output level such as Seymour Duncan ASB actives, in comparison to say EMG pickups - but I would at least expect that you can get enough signal to drive the input gain hard enough to flicker the gain LED! Oh - even though you are running the Bass in passive mode (and correct me as I am not sure what electronics you are using) do you have a fresh battery on board?

Ahhh! I had the Ultrafoot! - The old pink and err blue? version. I upgraded the firmware to what would have been the latest version and it was a great pedal board. Though I thought the design of the opto-sensor strips for the CC pedals was reeeeeally rubbish! Those pieces of plastic would inevitably curl up and make the use of the pedal glitchy far too much for my happiness! ha ha!

Agreed - Infact if you look at the Status site and then the DR site for their explanations of the tonal differences between the two types of string, You'd be excused for being a bit confused IIRC!

In a word yes! - I'd recommend GP6 too - far superior to GP5 and previous versions that were a bit glitchy. I use GP all the time for notating and learning songs, as there are hundreds of sites offering Guitar Pro versions of songs. If you still want to hang on to Guitar Pro 5 - then it might be worth grabbing TUX which is a program which is very similar to GP and can also open GP files. So, to sum up - at least download the Guitar Pro 6 demo so that you can see how much better it is!

TC Electronic C300 without a doubt. There are no doubt countless others out there and yes they are great - this one is just brilliant and almost a secret gem! - If you want it in pedal form, grab the TC Electronic Nova Dynamics. Both offer full band, parallel and spectral (three band) compression modes. I actually can't think of many compressors that offer as much functionality, are reasonably priced AND are actually really good! You shouldn't need to spend any more than 100 quid on a second hand one.

I'll add to the list of active EMG fans! I've used the P (soapbar casing) pups in my basses and I really like them! I'm a big fan of the non-exposed pole piece covers too. Great for digging in without the string clicking against the poles.

Hi Bassman, Yep - firstly earphones will sound very different from any other medium, be it PA or Amp - unfortunately that's just the way it is and can be made worse by the colouring that earphones can add to those amp sims. I have a few patches for recording guitar that I set up through my studio gear but sounds dreadful through my (quality) cans. I just have to remember to not edit the patch if I record with earphones - because I know it sounds great through my monitors! I don't wanna teach to suck eggs - but have you checked the POD's output mode, as you can configure it for live/PA use or plugging straight in to a desk which dramatically re-voices the amp & cab sims. I've found that in the wrong mode the sims can sound muddy when plugged in to backline. Which to me seems logical, because you'd be sending a simulation of an Amp, Cab and Microphone combination in to an Amp and Speaker, not really designed to monitor such. Hope this helps a bit! Aptitude + Attitude = Altitude Nathan East on talking about what makes a good session musician, but it applies to so many other areas of playing Bass. Know your stuff and have the right attitude towards when and how to use it.

I'd love to try some Neons or Black Beauties just to see what they are like, but the price for a six string set is pretty astronomical!
