1. Hi Bassman, Yep - firstly earphones will sound very different from any other medium, be it PA or Amp - unfortunately that's just the way it is and can be made worse by the colouring that earphones can add to those amp sims. I have a few patches for recording guitar that I set up through my studio gear but sounds dreadful through my (quality) cans. I just have to remember to not edit the patch if I record with earphones - because I know it sounds great through my monitors! I don't wanna teach to suck eggs - but have you checked the POD's output mode, as you can configure it for live/PA use or plugging straight in to a desk which dramatically re-voices the amp & cab sims. I've found that in the wrong mode the sims can sound muddy when plugged in to backline. Which to me seems logical, because you'd be sending a simulation of an Amp, Cab and Microphone combination in to an Amp and Speaker, not really designed to monitor such. Hope this helps a bit! 3. Ahhh! Very good! There's a choooon I haven't heard for a while!
4. Aptitude + Attitude = Altitude Nathan East on talking about what makes a good session musician, but it applies to so many other areas of playing Bass. Know your stuff and have the right attitude towards when and how to use it.
5. I'd love to try some Neons or Black Beauties just to see what they are like, but the price for a six string set is pretty astronomical!
6.
Cheers Dood, Unfortunately it doesn't support when the app is run on the computer, its states that it does on the support page though. I read on some forums and apparently the last version is 1.23. Thanks though Dave
Ah! I see, ok mate - hope you get a copy ok!
7. B&Q, Homebase, Focus, local hardware store? You can also get spray cans of Isopropyl Alcohol from Maplin. It's the same juice used in 'head cleaners'
8. Unfortunately I don't have a TW pickup to trade you with - but what are your symptoms (or rather the symptoms the bass is having!!)? Have you tried swapping the two pickups between their two positions to see if the problem moves? Or do you feel that both pickups have the same problem? Hmm, being as the TW is a dual mode pickup - if you don't have any joy getting a swap with someone - maybe isolating the two halves of the pickup and test them separately? Just a few thoughts. 10. I've been using Dunlop Big Stubby 2mm picks for a while now - but the other day, the Dunlop / MXR rep for the area in which I live gave me a Dunlop Ultex 'sharp' 2mm pic. I'm really impressed with it for bass as well as shred guitar and acoustic. I think I'm going to order some through. http://jimdunlop.com/product/sharp
11. I can see that you can download version 1.34 for Mac for the Pocket Pod on the site chap. http://line6.com/software/index.html
12.
ive been looking into a similar setup as youve described, one thing I dont understand though, if you run the kidney shaped pod 2 or x3 as the preamp, where do you put it? I know its probably down to preference but do most people leave them on their board or on top of the poweramp? the live floor based version looks too massive to have with a pedalboard aswell, and the rackmount pro version is a stupid price. id prefer just the x3 model but it doesnt look like its designed to be used live
The kidney bean PODs I guess would be better off sat on top of your amp - as it has a connector for an external foot controller board, as does the X3 pro. The X3 and other Live models obviously are better suited to be down by ya feet The X3 bean would be fine for use live, with the external board - but it'd probably be cheaper to just buy the X3 live instead!
13. I certainly have done in the past dumelow, but sorry I have no pictures! I've used various pedals as a preamp including the Sansamp Para Driver wirth great results. I'm back using a head in a rack these days, but two light weight cabinets to make life a bit easier on my knackered back! (Hartke LH1000 and 2x HX410) Should I fancy it, I have a pair of MarkBass F1's racked up as well - I think on their own, they are ridiculously light and powerful - not to mention lighter and easier to carry than a separate pedal and power amp!
14.
Very well, mate, very well! Glad this year is over with - it's been bloody manic! I should drop you a line when I'm next down your neck of the woods.
Sounds good! - Yeah the end of the year has been very crazy, but hopefully the extra 'homework' will be worth it for the start of the new year! We shall see!
15. I'm afraid the X3 is now sold. Sorry, I forgot to update the post - I'll do that now!
16. Interesting reading! I like my board to be as flat as possible, very little relief and the action to be as low as possible - but there's a fine line between trading off tone Vs playability. I like a bit of rattle in my tone, but it is controlled. I can get my basses to sound clean when I want them to, but there's nothing like digging in and making the bass bark a bit! I use my custom ramps for both finger style and pick which goes along way to stopping me from playing too hard and choking off notes. I started off subscribing to the Billy Sheehan method: As low as possible then bring the action up again to get rid of the rattles and problems - but it is important to have a really good fret job and set up if you are going to have a crazy low action, because it can lead to all sorts of fret buzzes if you have uneven fret heights. This could well be a reason why a good few basses you try out in shops are set up with such high actions - because the fret jobs are a bit poo!
17.
Hey man, that sounds great - we will be up and running asap. If you do know anyone in the south that would be up for this then please put us in touch. You could always leave your band and tryout for this haha. Email us the gig details at [email protected] Cheers! Shane
I saw your ad' over on the Djent site - I'll check out your material!

20. Deal with confidence with the fine Mark 'Geilerbass'! Nice to meet you Mark, I hope that your new acquisition keeps you busy and happy - as I'd said in my PM, if you need any more help with configuring the X3 I'm happy to help! Definite positive feedback here!
21.
Welcome in, chief. Find myself spending a lot of time in Norwich with work, and it's not too dissimilar from olde York - well, barring your accents, mind. Enjoy the site
Hullo mate! How's you?
22. Hi Dan, I'm Dan.. I play Bass.. and I live in Naaarch too!
23. Time seems to be slipping by and yes we do need to get that payment in advance. I'll have a PM with Charic as we somehow need to get the money to him so that we can book the hall, I guess.
24. Rotosound 'Rotos' range - Cheap as chips Nickel Roundwound.
25.
I am using a builti-in soundcard atm, my PC is pretty dated! until I go to uni in July and then I am buying either a very high spec laptop or a mac pro, but I am unsure which atm, a windows will get me much better specs for the same price but a mac gives me freedom over two operating systems with boot camp.. altho I am thinking of windows atm.
Ok, I've not seen an onboard card that is 'up to the job' yet - I'd definitely be looking at getting a soundcard designed for 'studio' work. (Either internal or external)
so in essence, your saying we can have a master sequencer running on a PC, and then have the master PC hooked up to other PC's and control them?
That's another way of doing it yes - the sequencer could be running on a PC with MIDI outputs - or it could be a sequencer on a workstation keyboard! The likes of Korg, Roland etc all do workstations with fully featured sequencers on them. _ Indeed, my mate was shoing me the Fantom the other day - and he plugged his electric guitar straight in to it and used the on-board amplifier modelling to record a distorty mega guitar tone... and where did he record it? well not only did the keybaord have a sequencer, it also had a multitrack recorder onboard! You can buy standalone hardware sequencers too - if you didn't wanna lug a PC around with you. Yes, if you wanted you could have other PCs as well as keybaords, lights, effects units all controlled by the sequencer / master PC / Master keyboard.
and by sequencer, you do mean Cubase or another DAW, correct?
It's worth just making the distinction that a DAW has the ability to be a sequencer, but it isn't specifically a sequencer. There may be software out there whose primary use is sequencing only. Cubase obviously can do a whole lot more - for example running virtual instruments / record / score etc etc etc.
