Yeah, it would work - though my only reason for not worrying about a PA cab is that you are kinda limiting the UX1's useage. It's absolutely brilliant for recording ideas and using as a sound card on your computer to listen to music (or so that you can play along to songs) - so my suggestion would be to get a cheap set of active monitors instead, such as the Behringer ones available for a better quality home rig. I think that the UX1 would sound better that way.
Oh dear.... not these muppets again.... Avoid like the plague...
I see they are still selling off 'kit parts' on ebay. I assumed this was actually parts for amp stock they never sold?
i just added it to my basket and got to a checkout stage.......................
Oh dear! That's worrying! Another website administration to join the masses of 'we have no idea what we have in stock' online sales.
I've got a couple of these but again not cheap..... 700W bridged into 8 ohm and weighs 2.6Kg
Cool, I haven't seen those before. Clever idea too.
One of these? http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/ClassD/ClassD.htm Is that discontinued then? EDIT: Just realised that's 600 into 2 ohms, 450 into 4. Did they used to do a bigger one? They look pretty cool.
Yep, the question was asked a few years ago - and the website hasn't change for sooo long now. Even the footer says 2004!
When it comes to something like that though, its more expensive then most the small amps.
Yup, there is a premium on 'small'!

Oh, BK Electronics (www.bkelec.com) *used* to do a power amplifier module that slotted in to the back of a cabinet (with a bit of minor drilling) it could run 600W at 4 Ohms. Sadly, despite being awesome power amps, they stopped making them. 'VelvetKevorkian' on here may still own my old module. However, one or two companies do make 'panel' amps - the sort you find in active subs etc - but are full range. One such company is Hypex (Hypex.nl) or if you fancy a bit of DIY, look at ColdAmp.com - these are the guys that our very own 'Alien' went to, to build the Alien Amps power amp which *should* still be in the Build Diaries forum.
the SWR amplite is 400 into 4ohms, might not be quite the power your after though.
Exactly the lil puppy I was thinking of mentioning. My answer would be to run a MarkBass F1 flat as a poweramp, which would cover the 350W at 8 Ohms. TDCB, didn't you have an F1?

Hi Jim, I'm really sorry to hear that. Must be dreadful. - I'd heard of the name of the condition before, but didn't know what it was. I'm going to look up to find out a bit more about it now.
He we go again. Reaper, ~ £25 ($60 in fact) for a small business/non-commercial license. Free trial offer too with full functionality. Best DAW I've used for recording in Windows. Best return on investment for software I've ever got too. Does all your slow down stuff too btw...
Yes yes yes yes!!!! Love this DAW! - I've bought the licensed version too because it is THAT good. All of my YouTube videos were edited within Reaper too! (Syncing hi quality recorded audio to webcam video) - I do all my mix downs to MP3 in Reaper too along with writing all my demos. I'm sorry I don't have any to upload right now, but I will do! Reaper is by far the easiest DAW to get up and running and has been the most stable I have ever used - honestly. But the great thing about it, is that if you need all the bells and whistles - they *are* there - but the are not cluttering up the interface like some other DAWs when you open them up. 5 stars on this one! I noted that it has been suggested that Reaper is more for beginners? - I think the very early versions of Reaper were like that - but the latest version is ram packed with pro tools. I also use: ToonTrack Superior 2 drum software for programming life-like drum parts as it uses real recorded drum samples and a simple to use effective GUI. Guitar Pro - mentioned already - a staple tool in the guitarist's 'kit bag' I think! - I'm about to upgrade to 6 - it looks waaay better. Tux - this is a free alternative version to Guitar Pro and will open GP files. Like previous versions of GP it isn't without it's little and rather annoying foibles! - Still, both are value for money when comparing against other similar apps for notating and playing back band parts via MIDI. and an old favourite of mine - the *original* version of Sound Forge! - Nope, not the Sony version, Sonic Foundry's original 4.5H with the MP3 plug in. If you can still find it, shim it and it will run in Windows 7 like a dream. So simple, but it really is like a Gardener's favourite spade. I use it for fast access to 'slowing down' or 'looping' difficult phrase. Also excellent for stripping out drum loops for jamming with and a whole host of mastering facilities. Line 6 Pod farm and Gearbox is actually a good set of tools if you use any of their interfaces. - No, they don't sound great 'straight out of the box' but a bit of tweaking can get some excellent recorded results. Following on a recording theme and trying to get decent guitar and bass recorded tones, look up 'guitar cab impulse convolution files' (others can explain it far better than I can!!) - I've been using a few to great effect in audio plugins. But for bass, you can't go wrong with the incredible Ampeg SVX plug in - it is brilliant! in my 'utilities' I have a YouTube downloader so that I can work on tracks offline, VLC Player, DropBox (for sharing projects with bandmates) and housekeeping tools, such as CCleaner for getting rid of unwanted temp files etc,
Just did a search on 6 string MM pickups and could only find one, I never really see any 6ers with J pups either, they all seem to be soapbars. How come? Thom
Thom, they are out there - but yes, the 'soapbar' casing for a pickup is much easier and cheaper to manufacture - as it is possible to put different configurations inside the same shaped casing. (So, a 'soapbar' doesn't have a particular tone as such). For example - EMG do J pickups, they are just in the same shell as say a P style, or dual rails. - It also makes it easier for us suffering from G.A.S to swap out completely different types of pickups, if they are all in a similar shell! One day I could have a P bass pup, the next a musicman sounding pickup - but with the EMGs, they just slot right in and I don't even need a soldering iron If you are specifically looking for a six string MM pup, then I recommend either Seymour Duncan or Delano off the top of my head as just two companies who manufacture such a beast!

Yep, worth mentioning that you get the PLI free with the yearly subscription and the £2k worth of insurance is also included free. I found that adding all my other gear to the policy to equal the value of my previous policy (prior to joining the MU) I saved over 50 quid!!!! Not only that, I've certainly benefitted greatly from being in the M.U - even just in a few months I have definitely gotten back the value of my subscription. Well done MU!
If you like very crisp and super pingy top end (Marcus Miller slap tone) the RH450 isnt suitable. Its more lo-mid focussed. There is PLENTY of definition and treble for me.
I agree with ma man here. The low mids are more focussed and I couldn't quite get the depth of low end I like too - which could be to do with the rest of my signal chain interacting with the amp. - So personal taste there. I wonder if the Stacatto 51 would have been a better choice! Still an amazing head though.
The Turbo Rat has no blend of wet and dry signals, so thats out. Any other ideas?
If you can find one, the Rat Juggernaut was a version of the Rat with a dry mix for bass players - if you like that kinda distortion.
