To join in th econversation - I owned a GS112 for a while and agree, it's a very capable cab, that's for sure! The MarkBass LM2/3 + 2xGS112's is a really stonking rig that I have fond memories of hearing at one of the first BassChat Bashs. (Homer', it was your rig!! You da man!!) As a Hartke'r I'm eyeing up the Hydrive 112 as a quiet rehearsal / jamming cab.

As for the bridge cable - yes, as Rasta says, they are dead easy to make / have made.

It's gotta be Chocolate Thunder!! I was thinking DB410, a 212 or 112&112NT or even just getting a single 15. I used to love my old Henry 8x8", I thought the old Hartke 410XLs we're killer too. My Bag End's beautifully voiced but it's a shade quiet. I don't mind a single cab; it's just gotta be clean and round sounding. Anyone got a strong feeling about the Aggys? Thanks in advance. I have it on Vinyl! - I have to agree that the video content was derivative, but no, did not feel that 1) the chap was taking it seriously or 2) was put any effort in to what he was playing. Other than the Muse 'riff' I think the timing if the other 'stuff' made it sound a bit poorly executed. Gotta be careful with tapping I think. It's all too easy to start and end on the beat, but everything in between is a bit loose, whilst contending with fat ole strings! Going with 1) I think!
  9. I stupidly sold a beautiful P- Bass. What a tone it had! - Poor thing had been previously refinished in 'natural' with a questionable varnish, but had the 70's black pickguard - 90% sure it was a dimarzio pickup, reverse Kluson keys.. quite a heavy beast. I sold it to a guy in Bury St Edmunds. I often wonder where it has gotten to - it had two distinctive screw holes where a thumb rest had been placed above the E string near the bridge. I think I have some pics somewhere, I'll have to get them scanned in!

  11. Cheers fretmeister - I also saw a convo on TalkBass where he hinted at a thought for D-Class head, obviously to rival the 'lightweight' market. Whether or not it will happen, I don't know - but I'd love to give the Kilo a whirl, especially if they can keep the weight in check.
  12. Hullo! My immediate thought wth running a fuzz straight in to the PA, is that it will sound harsh and could lack definition due to the PA's Tweeters. I'd be inclined to buy a loop pedal (or similar) that will allow you to plop the pedal in the usual place, and then blend the fuzz in with your normal bass tone. I use an MXR M80 exactly for this reason, it is designed so that you can EQ and mix dry bass with filthy dirt. You *could* try to tame it by running an EQ after the fuzz then in to the PA to round off the top end a bit and maybe boost the lower mids to simulate a speaker cabinet EQ curve. That should make it sound a bit more realistic. Though I would be inclined to go with a loop plan. It's completely normal to disappear in the mix with a guitar distortion pedal, as it removes all of your bottom end when you switch it in.

I still, to this day do not know why no sound passed, despite having set it up and doublechecked my work. Reaper installed, run Line 6 POD software select output sends 1 & 2 as the stereo mix,Go to Reaper, right click VU meter in DAW select stereo input, Sends 1 & 2 (Or Mix L & R). Hit record. Really that easy! UX-8 worked straight away! There are, as you say, a number of tutorials on YouTube and a wiki and a friendly user manual for Reaper. I'm a big fan!

I use an M80 myself - I've modified mine so that it lives in my live rack all the time and I have it controlled by my MIDI effects unit. Having said that, most of the time I use it the same as the OP.. AND I have fallen in love with 'going stereo' again with a luscious chorus! OH dear!!! Speaking of SFX - I think that'd be a great idea to have a custom built unit. I've said it before and I'll say it again - One day, I'll order something very cool from Max. Every time he displays a new item my wallet winces at my glee!
  21. I'm afraid I haven't tried the compressor you mention - but I'm going to dive straight in with two suggestions, both by TC Electronic. The reason I select them (not only becasue they are my favourites) is because you specifically mention playing guitar through them as well as wanting a good Bass compressor. For a rack mountable unit go for the C300. It has two compressors on board and TC have been very clever and added a rotary 'program' switch. You tell the compressor what you are using it with, for example 'Bass Drum', 'Female Vocals', 'Acoustic Guitar' or 'Bass Guitar' - it then configures itself between spectral (multiband) and full band compression. Also features Parallel compression techniques too which will be good for acoustic guitar. You don't need to know a great deal bout programming, you just set and forget! You could probably find one for around 100 quid on ebay, which is astoundingly good. Secondly, the Pedal version but far simpler, the Nova Dynamics. It features 4 compressors and two noisegates on board - you can have two running at once. Again, the multiband and full band compression is available. I would recommend the multi-band for acoustic and bass. You can also switch in a noisegate to keep background artifacts to a minimum. Again, 100 quid. I own the Nova Dynamics as I stopped using rack gear (briefly!!!). If you can pick one up second hand, grab an EBS multicomp if you cant get a TC easily. They are also brilliant, but the Nova Dynamics rich feature set made it a winner for me.
  22. For the line6 recommendation, I've had experiences with a good few of them. For just recording one instrument at a time on to a laptop, I would highly recommend the Line 6 GX (Over the Tone Port) and for recording software, I actually LOVE Reaper DAW [url="http://www.reaper.fm/"]http://www.reaper.fm/[/url] It is totally free to download and use - but I liked it that much I bought a license. You can even install it on a USB stick and take it anywhere. If you want to plug in a microphone at the same time, then go for the UX-1 - If you want to be able to plug in stereo keyboards, or two microphones or two guitars then go for the UX-2, Finally, if you want to record 8 seperate instruments all at the same time, the UX-8. With the new HD units on their way, I can expect the prices of these units to start tumbling, but to be honest, they're cheap to start with, but actually work! great for demos etc.
