1. Should Veall Terminate (the pointless thread?)
2. Very enjoyable - full of energy and some great ideas in there. Nice work!
3. I've noticed a few R&B bands take session bass players who play Synth Bass, Keys and Guitar. - I too would like to be able to play keyboard that well to widen my musical pallette. I'm more than a competent guitar player and know that I could certainly hold my own if I was offered an Guitar/Bass gig - though I'd need a lot of time to practice Synth Bass! - I'd be more likely to sort out a Graphtec MIDI solution for on e of my basses so that I could play the Synth parts on a standard bass guitar!!! One thing I would love to do in a band situation - as I play 'ERB' is have someone else play a Bass line - and then play melody / chord etc on the bass, just for a completely different tonal 'layer' as Legion above has suggested.
4. Very kind! Thanks very much, I'll certainly bear it in mind and let ya know what I'm up to! Cheeers!
5. SOMETHING with *VEALL in the TITLE *my surname in case anyone was wondering
6. It took me a little while to adjust when I started playing with drummers using electronic kits. I think what can be a problem (much like bass gear actually) is the amplification and cabinets used to play back the drum audio. Small under powered PA speakers for example are cr@p! especially if they need to be cranked, which compounds the issue. The different drums sounds have less definition and rubbish tweeters add so much shrill top end it's difficult to hear the pulse of the kit. I'd liken having an electronic kit behind me to playing with in-ear-monitoring. Something 'feels' lost without the amps roaring behind you if you see what I mean? My other thought is - and this is true for Bass Players and Guitarists alike - A great deal of us don't want 100 different settings and buttons to push to make the thing sound right. - Plug in and sounds great out of the box. - Sadly, and is the case with a certain manufacurer of guitar effects units - the default patches stored 'out of the box' can be rubbish - and if the time isn't taken to work out what sounds great in different environments - then it's no surprise it won't perform as expected. It'd be like turning up for a gig and not bothering to touch any of the controls on our gear before playing! he he! I'm really happy with working with electronic kits now. Infact, I really love working with non-acoustic kit sounds. Messing around with the old 808 drum machine type sounds or indeed even pitched sounds!
7. I have a Valve in my amp. It's great. I love it. Valves are brilliant. Even when they aren't conducting.
8.
Not sure where 'predator country' is but if it's anywhere near me then you're welcome to have a play on mine any time
That's very kind of you! - Predator Country, good ole Naaaarfulk! - See, as a Predator, the pickings are easy up here ;o) nomm nommm! - Might be a bit far away at the moment. However, if the local Bass Bash happens, then mebbe we'll have an opportunity to give it a whirl!
9. Excellent - well it looks like the event could have a good tun out then! No idea when, how , who or what - but if it's gonna be in Cambridge, anyone know any good venues?
10.
hmm, bobfoc.
I laughed out loud! There's a phrase I haven't heard for a while. Lovin' the P bass though
11. Hmmm - definitely interested in A/Bing one out of sheer interest. It puts up a good argument for it thats for sure.
12. Basschat, you done me proud - saved me doing any moderating this afternoon. Best (anti troll) forum on the web.
13. Wow! FIVE threads on the go - maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan are you ALL bored today? ha ha ha ha!!! Tell ya what, if I needed to advertise a product or service - I'm going with Dave's *method!! *except for alienating myself completely and diluting any creedance to my opinions in one post. lolz
14.
There are a lot of guitar teachers who also advertise bass lessons, and I would suspect that the majority of these aren't "real bassists".
I fear this is a big part of the problem. Guitarists teaching Bass to me is akin to a harp player teaching piano. As far as I am aware, there is/was just one 'proper' Bass teacher in Norwich. - I'd like to be proved otherwise - but I *hope* that when I start teaching in the area, Bass Players won't be put off by the fact that they *may* have been taught by tutors who haven't spent a considerable amount of time studying / playing the instrument they are actually teaching. I've been playing for over 20 years now.
15.
Spin off thread frenzy!!
In a crazy 'Joanie Loves Chachi' sort of way lol.. tenuous eh!
16. Godwin's Law finally made it!
17. Considering most Bass Players these days are likely to have some sort of back problem, lightweight gear is certainly a very attractive option. The quality of equipment these days is so much better for the money - so unless you really dig the bottom of the barrel, most kit is fairly worthy of the road.
18. [/subscribed] bored already. Heed my advice Dave.

I will be too - I'll be having a moment of silence in respect. RIP my friend x
20. - I'm actually a big fan of the SVT 2 Pro - I owned one for many years and ran it in to two Hartke 4.5XL cabs. Yes, it was an awesome awesome tone - I don't deny that one bit - but the weight of the rig was a nightmare for a busy bass player. I can get an equally good tone from other non-valve or non-Ampeg gear which by luck also happens to be a fraction of the weight! Nice!
21.
As predicted, .... {snipped}
If you predicted such a response, then you knew that what you were posting was designed to be inflammatory. We all enjoy a good laugh - and yes, we're definitely having one - though probably at your expense. I don't believe for one second that you truly believe what you are saying and think you are just trolling for effect. Unfortunately for you, as you will find - history has shown that BassChatters being the friendly bunch they are, take exception to trolling. You're probably gonna find that you will be starting off on the wrong foot! If you want a balanced discussion - why not give us a bit more background about yourself and how your experiences give you such a strong feeling that your Ampeg is the best in the world? You'll get a much better reply if you want to discuss something in an adult fashion rather than wading in telling us what you think and that our opinions are null.
22. I think this brings in to question what is 'valve tone'? (refering to what the amplifier sounds like specifically, not how it 'feels' to play which isn't in discussion here). Certainly we have seen blind tests here and on TalkBass where people are unable to tell the difference between a valve head and a solidstate one - so to say that all valve heads sound better (as an example) is a bit pointless, unless you strap 'IMO' on the end of your sentence
23.
Many people on these forums seem to be kidding themselves, and others, by pretending you can get 'that' tone out of these little bass heads or portable combos. YOU CAN'T I'M AFRAID!
Well there ya go. We have been told!
