Looks like I've recently missed out on a 2880 and foot controller on TB.. ahh!! tooo slow! Must spend more time in the marketplace sections!
-
Yeah it's better than the RC-50 and there are some on TB fairly cheap, you can also save money by just getting the unit if you already have a midi footswitch
Ah! Really? That's interesting - if I can operate the 2880 from my Roland FC-200 - that'd be cool!
-
but a second look at the 2880 user manual and functions has me salivating... oh dear!! Here we go again! lol!
Yeah good choice for a starter loop pedal, it'll probably do everything you need for quite a while.
I looked at the Stereo version - and it appears it's not stereo at all lol - infact, it appears that until you start spending a lot more cash - pretty much every unit loops in mono - so the free software version I have been using has well n' truly trumped most hardware units! but it's down to cost - and I didnt really fancy lugging something like the RC-50 around - until such times as I have finished 'playing' and then get serious lol!
-
Decision made! Based on price and options I'll be grabbing a Digitech Jamman - no doubt second hand. The option of loading on WAV samples on to the pedal will be brilliant Vs the things that I'd like to do with a more expensive unit - and looking on ebay - I think these go cheaply - I hope!!!

Making 6-string set of Ernie Balls - what gauge C string?
Dood replied to JimBobTTD's topic in Accessories and Misc
Agreed - I use a 30 for all my C strings, so something close to that will hopefully give you a more even tension across the set. -
The 3 I listed are not limited to the length of the first loop to clarify
Thanks matey! Yup, I understood that to be the case but appreciate it anyway! I've got some time for a surf this eve - so I'll see what delights I come up with!
-
Cheers Ste! Ahhhthat's really crud!! - Hmmmm - I'll have to look at the alternatives I reckon - I could see punters geting a bit bored with waiting whilst I dropped in a 16 bar loop with nowt else on it!!
-
Hey all! I'm a bit confused! I have a question to fire at any loop pedal users. Some of the tracks I have written with a software looper have been created with say, a single bar of drum loop, then on the next phrase 'channel' I have recorded say 8 bars of bass line then on another a four bar chord change turnaround. In all the videos I have been watching on YouTube of all the pedals I am interested in - I can't seem to see that this is possible? - It appears that everyone, in their demos have gone for a 2 or 4 bar repeat and not really broken out of that on each loop. Which, although great - would be really limiting for me. Any ideas?? - I really wanna try one! Just don't know which to go for!!
-
Hmmm - before you start trying to add pedals n' stuff - we need to get you a clean signal. I'm wondering at the moment if your 100W amp can keep up with the rest of your band, if it is distorting like that? Conversely - does the amp have both volume and gain controls? - If it does - next time you are with the band - try lowering your gain control and bring the master volume up higher to compensate - just to find out if your distortion is happening in the preamp or the power amp of your 'head'. A compressor, a good one can help - but I think we should concentrate on getting you as much headroom as possible first, if you like that clean piano sound. To give you an idea what it means to me - the least power I have used is about 500W RMSlive and my current rig is 1000W RMS. However, certain passages requiring touch sensitivity do get the compressor treatment!
-
Easy answer, is that I will drop your post directly in to the Hartke forum! Hartke UK (Gareth and Michelle at Korg) have been absolutely brilliant and I am sure they can help you out with your query. A personal thanks goes in there too for my own Hartke rig

There's always lots of threads about Bass Guitar Magazine, but I wondered how many others indulge their geeky side with Bass Gear Magazine? I actually love it and have much respect for Tom Bowlus and his wide gear experience. Here: http://www.bassgearmag.com/web/ Available as an online digital download version or hard copy. - I buy the digital download as it is handy to keep on my laptop. Yes, I admit - I refer to the tech specs of gear tested in the magazine. I wear an anorak!!

I use compression - not much - but it HAS to be Parallel Compression (i.e.mixing a dry tone in as well) Because I only want the quieter passages, such as tapping / harmonics to be lifted out of the bass lines without the effects of signal limiting in the chain. Get the balance right and you can't really hear the compression working, yet pinch harmonics and pecussive/ ghost notes have a uniform power and volume to them which makes things sound neater I feel. Oh and it's not at all making up for sloppy technique he he he!!!
Thanks Dood. I understand what you mean perfectly and thanks chaps for your advice. The idea came about from realising that EQ settings and fx settings don't work for my different basses. That's not to say I want an 8 string to sound like a buzzard and that's not what I wanted to do. But I realised that I'd be piling through settings for ages setting patches when I could just control them centrally. I ended up getting the idea from an old Trace MP11. Very grateful for the advice and knowledge as this is something I've never done before.
That's not a problem, I'm more than happy to talk tech! I have been plagued by the same problems myself - especially live. Certain basses would just swallow up any chances of hearing effects and replace them with deep bottom end in comparison to others. Poor soundman!! It doesn't totally help you at the moment - but the way I over came the problems and managed to get some kind of control was to settle upon one dry bass sound (or a couple) that covered as many bases (pun) as possible and then replicated it across the instruments I was likely to use in any given situation. What I mean is - my two Shukers both have the same pickups, electronics and switching. If I then swap between instruments, the bass level, gain and EQ settings on my amp always stay the same. BIG, articulate and tight. After that, I manipulate the tone with additional EQ and effects to get the desired sounds via my outboard units. Funny you should mention the MP11 - as I had been using a programmeable graphic EQ to do my tone controlling as well!

I think they are a good 'bread and butter' valve and are value for money. The amountof manufacturers who use them as a stock valve I guess is testament to an even level of QC these days. I'm kinda tempted to do abit of 'tube rolling' myself and start collecting a batch to play with. I have to admit, that of the few I've tried in specific amps, the Sovteks weren't my favourite. I will add the disclaimer that it's well documented that some valves seem tosound good in one amplifier but not in another,so it's a major case of YMMV! - but hell - trust ya ears, if it sounds great, it IS great!
-
Fantastic! Nice work! Hmm,maybe we should be looking at the posibility of a forum for interviews, like the reviews section?
-
I'd like to add to the handy tip for completeness of the exercise. Yes, slow the track right down and make sure you can play it confidently and cleanly in each increment up to speed. Then, I want you to start incrementing past the speed of the track, but make sure you can still play it cleanly. Go as far as you can and ensure each note sounds properly and you are taking care to ensure you strive for quality. Now, after you have spent a good hour doing this - you'll find the original speed soooooo easy in comparison. If not - go back and do it again!
Yeah stereo. Not got the pre yet, will be this week.
Sweet - will check it out a bit closer then! Shame they didnt think to put the looper on the X3 Live!!!!

Yes, I have certainly done it - though instead of assigning dedicated channels etc - I cheated a bit. Daisy chain the MIDI connections as sugested in the manuals. In my case I set my receiving devices to the same channel (or Omni - which is like, auto) And then set up each patch as per the pedal board. What I mean is - decide how you want to lay out your MIDI board. Typically, I set up each bank of ten (I have ten pedals on my controller) for either specific songs or indeed banks of sounds you are likely to use together. Then I break that down so that I ALWAYS have certain types of sounds in the same place. For example the '1' pedal will always be a dry clean bass tone - and 3 will always be a boost, 4 chorus and reverb, 5 timebased effect etc etc. Then it's just a case of hitting the pedal then tweaking all your units so pedal one has the sound you want, then on to pedal two, pedal three etc. You might find that on certain patches, you are not using effects at all - well - no problem, the effects unit patch could just be set to bypass. This may lead to duplications in your patches as you copy them from say patch 1, to 5 to 13 etc etc - but most effects units and preamps give you more than you'll ever likely to use anyway. I hope this makes sense!! - The idea came from watching videos by John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess as to how they set up their kit for songs - given they have SOOO many patches per song! If all else fails - you could just buy a line6 X3 Pro / Live or if you pockets are deep enough there is the delicious AXE Effects by Fractal. Yes, I saw the one in the for sale forum and nearly wet myself - allof your amps and effects in one box - and thus one controller and no messing about. I'm have an X3 Pro, which I use now and again - but I also have a TC Electronics G Major 2 that I have control some outboard 'stuff' coupled to a Roland FC200 - a brilliant MIDI controller.

Anybody used the Rotosound Nexus strings yet ?
Dood replied to markdavid's topic in Accessories and Misc
The strings themselves are coloured?
Well, maybe they aren't steel! - out of the packet they looked shiny like acoustic (bronze) strings or Optima Gold. -
