[/quote] Sims = Amp Simulations (ie selecting an Amp and Cab combination) - I asked because you also have a bypass volume to select as well, so when the sim is off, the level is the same direct as when it is switched on in the patch. Also , have you tried switching the output to 'line' to bring the signal output up? - The manual also suggests that where possible, turn the master volume on the X3 up full for best signal to noise ratio. The X3 doesn't as such include an input gain control, so you may find that some compromise had to be made for basses with a really high output level, so that it won't distort the input section of the X3. My active pickups have a very high output. Try turning off the input pad switch as that will allow lower output pickups a stronger signal in. I think it's just a case of balancing input with output. I had to faff with mine too! - and finally - have you selected the right mode for the Live output? ie - for an amplifier input as opposed to 'studio/PA' or 'power amplifier'? Worth checking, especially if you have used Line6 Monkey recently to update the firmware!

Hmmmm... intriguing! How are you 'configured' with your amp? and when are you finding the signal is weakened? With Sims on or off?

Hey guys! Wow! That's awesome! Great stuff so far - I'll be plugging in my earphones for a listen shortly. I'm feeling quite excited actually - as I keep thinking of reall cool songs to cover in a loop stylee!

I'm a bit of a late bloomer with all things looping, but I feel a bit of a bug coming on! So - for all you lovely people who use them and have experience of them: What's good, what's not and what are my options? I may use my Line6 X3 and TC Electronic GMajor2 in tandem, MIDI'd up to my Roland controller - I'm assuming some loop pedals will allow me automation via MIDI too?

Loud Technologies are the UK Distributor and have helped me with Schems in the past.

But it can do a very wide range of very nice tones.[/quote] I start with a similar setting myself - though I probably push the bass end a bit further round than most,as my bass pickups are mid and top orientated (in comparison to a P Bass for example) - But I get the same results. Bass up then pull the mid down if I need to. My treble control is down around 2 all the time and I am running a JJ preamp valve. Though I have to admit, I do fancy a bit of 'rolling' if a really nice Mullard comes my way! - Not because I need to- it just looks like fun!

It's a wierd feeling - and really hard to explain, but 'doesn't react' or 'feel' seems to be the best description. I think it is getting better though with faster more powerful processors. The AxeFX by Fractal and also Eleven by err.. Digidesign? are both at the top of the DSP modelling ladder and are getting great responses from the industry. I haven't played either yet though.

However, whilst researching I'd asked for advice from owners of basses from certain luthiers and had been showed examples that put me off. Use a laptop - downlaod a free DAW such as Reaper and a free Midi Drum plug in then go searching the net for MIDI files of the songs you are learning. Once imported in to Reaper you can assign the drum plug in to the drums on the MIDI track - mute the other instruments and play along with the preprogrammed parts. You *could* if you then wanted, fill out your songs by adding other virtual instruments to the other tracks (if available) to included, say, keyboard parts! Just an idea if you are that way inclined. I use Reaper and also Toontrack's Superior 2 - which may be a bit outside of your budget - but there are plenty of free plugins availble - the in built kit in Cubase SX2 for example (and other versions) isn't too shabby for rehearsing with.

I admit it - I am a gadget freak and have spent years twiddling multiband graphic equalisers and faffing with all sorts of flashing lights and buttons. I am really enjoying plugging straight in to a head which sounds brilliant straight out of the box and has only three tone controls - yet, with the interactivity can cover all the 'bases' I require.

It sounds great! When I bought my first Hartke Hydrive - I ran it with the RH450 - a very capable head that doesn't sound 'digital' at all.

I'll echo what has been said here already in that Jon has an incredible experience and eye for neck shapes. After a discussion and consultations for my first Shuker, I was 100% confident that I could leave him to build my headless Shuker, pretty much without seeing it at all. Honestly! I knew the neck was going to be exactly what I wanted, because I knew he understood what I wanted. My headless turned out even better than expected and is my absolute favourite and best bass I have ever played. Not just being biased - but I have played many many very expensive basses - and this one, being bespoke just is exactly what I wanted. no niggles, no nothing. With that in mind, it puts the 'time to build' in to perspective. You only have to look at the waiting list for other 'top of the range' custom builders to know that you are paying less and waiting less time for something just as good - and I'm sorry to say about other builders - The Shuker is better made too in comparison. {I am adding the disclaimer 'IMHO' to this post.}

As a sweeping statement *most* musicians are not techno geeks and thus expect to twiddle a few knobs and sound like SRV. However, modelling just doesn't work like that - infact even big valvey amp stacks don't either. The POD *can* sound amazing in the right hands - but a lack of experience - or indeed a lack of reading the manual in the first place will only grace you with a turd to polish. I would quite happily turn up to a studio session with just a POD (X3) - because I am confident that I can get the tones I want from it and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between live or model. - oh and finally, none of the sounds I use are stock ones... Eeeeesh!!! - I'd rather get the POD with no default sounds on! lol

I ran two 4.5XLs with an SVT 2 Pro on top. I have recently moved to the LH1000 and two Hydrive 410 cabinets. Infact,I'll post a pic in a sec. TONS of clear bottom end! )
