1. Ahhh yes, I remember there has definitely been a thread about the lil fella already. There responses appeared to be pretty good and I was tempted to get one myself - but then G.A.S happened and I spent my money elsewhere!!
 2. Hey guys! Wow! That's awesome! Great stuff so far - I'll be plugging in my earphones for a listen shortly. I'm feeling quite excited actually - as I keep thinking of reall cool songs to cover in a loop stylee!
 3. I'm watching the RC50 demo videos now Cheers Molan! Keep 'em coming! - I'll drop Josh and Steve a line too.
 4. Oh and how about PC software versions?
 5. I'm a bit of a late bloomer with all things looping, but I feel a bit of a bug coming on! So - for all you lovely people who use them and have experience of them: What's good, what's not and what are my options? I may use my Line6 X3 and TC Electronic GMajor2 in tandem, MIDI'd up to my Roland controller - I'm assuming some loop pedals will allow me automation via MIDI too?
 6. Loud Technologies are the UK Distributor and have helped me with Schems in the past.
 7.
There is plenty of mid there, but the tone stack is very unituitive (to my addled brain). Set mid on max, treble on about 1, bass on about 1. Really! I find that a 2,10,2 starting point, then roll off the treble to taste and bring up the bass, whiclst slowly rolling back the mids is the easiest way, damned fiddly though. But it can do a very wide range of very nice tones.
I start with a similar setting myself - though I probably push the bass end a bit further round than most,as my bass pickups are mid and top orientated (in comparison to a P Bass for example) - But I get the same results. Bass up then pull the mid down if I need to. My treble control is down around 2 all the time and I am running a JJ preamp valve. Though I have to admit, I do fancy a bit of 'rolling' if a really nice Mullard comes my way! - Not because I need to- it just looks like fun!
 8.
Guess which of these is recorded with an all valve Trace V4 combo, which is through a Roland Vbass unit and which is through a POD! 1 - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85432/jam%20clips/...oon%20short.mp3 2 - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85432/USB%203/Canti%27s%20Wrap.mp3 3 - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85432/Clown%20Killa.mp3 ped
Which one was doused in Snake Oil, Ped?
 9.
On the downside some guitarists I know say they are great but just don’t react to their playing or feel like a real amp but it is not far off.
That I agree with - especially in older DSP chips where the latency was, in some cases as much as 10ms end to end. It's a wierd feeling - and really hard to explain, but 'doesn't react' or 'feel' seems to be the best description. I think it is getting better though with faster more powerful processors. The AxeFX by Fractal and also Eleven by err.. Digidesign? are both at the top of the DSP modelling ladder and are getting great responses from the industry. I haven't played either yet though.
 10.
For example, specifically - what basses are less well made than Shukers?
It's not fair to belittle other luthiers specifically. However, whilst researching I'd asked for advice from owners of basses from certain luthiers and had been showed examples that put me off. I'm not saying that it would be a problem for everyone but IMHO - and you know I am fussy - if I am paying premium prices, I want the very best, down to fine detail. I'm just saying that for the price I personally think Jon Shuker is seriously under rated in comparison to the other 'names' - and I found that my expectations of others let me down. YMMV blah blah blah
 11.
Digital clipping is a totally different thing to digitally modelled distortion. Digital clipping occurs from overdriving a digital unit, which is generally a bad idea.
+1 Digital clipping could occurr if the unit is set up is configured incorrectly - as you say, if the signal gain was too high. This is not a fault of the unit itself.
 12.
We're going to be drummerless for about 6 weeks, and need to work on new material with an easy to programme but relatively realistic sounding machine. Any suggestions? Thanks Chris
Are you learning covers? Here's a suggestion for you. Use a laptop - downlaod a free DAW such as Reaper and a free Midi Drum plug in then go searching the net for MIDI files of the songs you are learning. Once imported in to Reaper you can assign the drum plug in to the drums on the MIDI track - mute the other instruments and play along with the preprogrammed parts. You *could* if you then wanted, fill out your songs by adding other virtual instruments to the other tracks (if available) to included, say, keyboard parts! Just an idea if you are that way inclined. I use Reaper and also Toontrack's Superior 2 - which may be a bit outside of your budget - but there are plenty of free plugins availble - the in built kit in Cubase SX2 for example (and other versions) isn't too shabby for rehearsing with.
 13. I admit it - I am a gadget freak and have spent years twiddling multiband graphic equalisers and faffing with all sorts of flashing lights and buttons. I am really enjoying plugging straight in to a head which sounds brilliant straight out of the box and has only three tone controls - yet, with the interactivity can cover all the 'bases' I require.
 14.
Assuming the TC RH450 is digital modelling, I'm sold on that particular effort...
Yup, it's preamp is in the same DSP domain as the POD. It sounds great! When I bought my first Hartke Hydrive - I ran it with the RH450 - a very capable head that doesn't sound 'digital' at all.
 15. I'll echo what has been said here already in that Jon has an incredible experience and eye for neck shapes. After a discussion and consultations for my first Shuker, I was 100% confident that I could leave him to build my headless Shuker, pretty much without seeing it at all. Honestly! I knew the neck was going to be exactly what I wanted, because I knew he understood what I wanted. My headless turned out even better than expected and is my absolute favourite and best bass I have ever played. Not just being biased - but I have played many many very expensive basses - and this one, being bespoke just is exactly what I wanted. no niggles, no nothing. With that in mind, it puts the 'time to build' in to perspective. You only have to look at the waiting list for other 'top of the range' custom builders to know that you are paying less and waiting less time for something just as good - and I'm sorry to say about other builders - The Shuker is better made too in comparison. {I am adding the disclaimer 'IMHO' to this post.}
 16.
but a very well programmed digital modeller does sound amazingly authentic.
I think this hits the nail on the head. As a sweeping statement *most* musicians are not techno geeks and thus expect to twiddle a few knobs and sound like SRV. However, modelling just doesn't work like that - infact even big valvey amp stacks don't either. The POD *can* sound amazing in the right hands - but a lack of experience - or indeed a lack of reading the manual in the first place will only grace you with a turd to polish. I would quite happily turn up to a studio session with just a POD (X3) - because I am confident that I can get the tones I want from it and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between live or model. - oh and finally, none of the sounds I use are stock ones... Eeeeesh!!! - I'd rather get the POD with no default sounds on! lol
 17.
so those of you who have alu Hartkes, are they bottom shy, G.
NO! in a word! - I think it's probably a case of room EQ / personal taste / essential stage EQing / bad set up in play here. I could say the same about many rigs I have seen live. I wouldn't bang on about Hartke gear if it couldn't handle the bottom end I crave! I may sound biased, now that I am (recently) proudly endorsing. - however, I started using Hartke in the 90's because of their capability in the low end whilst remaining clear and true at high volumes. I ran two 4.5XLs with an SVT 2 Pro on top. I have recently moved to the LH1000 and two Hydrive 410 cabinets. Infact,I'll post a pic in a sec. TONS of clear bottom end! )
 18. I hope you don't mind - I added the word 'Ampeg' to your title- because I know there is much love for the SVT610 and hopefully you will get more responses.
 19. Oh sh*t no! I echo Stingray5 and hope that indeed he is with us for many more years to come!
 20. Yes, my F1 hissed exactly the same. It is the head - but you will find that some tweeters are able to reproduce those upper frequencies that hiss appears most prominent in better than others, hence why it was more obvious with the Aggie cabs. Their tweeters are very clear sounding.
 21. Tweeters don't hiss, amplifiers do. What you are probably hearing is just the power amplifier of the F500 idle. It's nothing to worry about and completely normal. ALL amplifiers hiss to an extent and what you are hearing is just being picked up by Aguilar's sensitive tweeter. If you are hearing a noise that is more than *just* hiss, then it might be worth checking the amplifier out, at least with another cab with a tweeter in to see if that does the same. You shouldn't hear whines and whistles if you have nothing connected to the amplifier and all the controls at zero.
 22.
Hi is anyone using a Peavey IPR1600 in there rack? I am using Crowns at the mo, have these got enough guts to drive the lows? enough puff. I am using Crown Torroidal tranny stuff at the mo (lots of spare juice) . I have not been impressed with this new wave of digi stuff so far. I like a big dynamic range at my fingers see, when I am playing. Ta Dan
Hey Dan, if I can sway you 'digi' wise. I think with a decent D-Class (Or H,or the other varieties) there is no reason why they can't be as good as or better than 'non digi' stuff. I hate the term 'digital' in reference to D-Class gear, as it *isn't* digital, but that's a rant for another day lol. I've heard good things about the IPR gear, though not used them. If you want to get some reviews on how power amplifiers perform driving deep bass in to huge subs and which are the best (which I think is a pretty good test for us bass players) go here: http://forum.speakerplans.com/ I'm really pleased to see that a power amp I used to own is at the top of the pile for superior performance. That's anything by Powersoft - and they are all D-Class, 1 unit high and pushes out a real 2KW RMS. That's a good dynamic range for- well - any situation!
 23.
Thanks for remembering mine... :snob:
Guilty as charged m'lud. I have edited my post! - Tom, I remember visiting Jon for the first time when I bought my first Shuker. Your Bass was there waiting for that mammoth 3 coil custom pickup to arrive! I think it defintely sowed the seeds for getting my own design together! Please forgive me!
 24.
Easy win: Custom fitted earplugs.
There isn't enough space for all the zeros after the '+1' below,so you'll just have to imagine them. When you get them, you'll wonder why you didn't do it before! +1
