1. Hey, TC, 'WinMob' and 'Android' versions please!
2.
Quilted body, flamed neck, birdseye fingerboard
Yes yes yes!! - I still ADORE Johngh's Shuker headless.... take a look at this blonde bombshell: AND WotnWhy's Wonderful Shuker - a Bass that inspired me to go Shuker in the first place. and whilst I am at it: is nothing short of spectacular!!!
3. Actually, *I* kill strings very quickly too, especially at gigs. I love the 'new string' tone and find that after the first set, the strings will have gone dull, by the end of the night, dead! So, anything that can keep my hands dry, or keeps the sweat off the strings seems like a good idea to me. But then, I'm far more open minded than most and am not dragged down by fashion or what looks cool. It's utilitarian. I do utilitarian! (Well - with the exception that both of my Shukers are GORGEOUS looking basses ha ha ha - but, that was second to playability.)
4. I believe the BIAS LED circuit constantly checks the bias of the power amp valves - and *can* flicker when you are playing. However, if you have had the amp on for a good 20mins or so and it is idle, I would expect the LEDS to remain constant. I *did* read somewhere - maybe talkbass that earlier versions of the circuit were a bit untrustworthy - however, I never had any probelms with my SVT2al the time I owned it. It was a 99 Black Face. You could try swapping the valves out and rebias to see if that helps - ok, so thats expensive - unless you can borrow a set?
5. I'm really pleased with the LH1000. I admit I am a self confessed 'tweaker' and love my buttons, switches and flashing lights. My old bass rigs used to look like something off a spaceship!! (I'll post a pic at some point for a good laugh) - but the simplicity of the LH, coupled with a great sound straight out the box is just brilliant - and quite refreshing for me! I took a bit of time to get used to the interactivity of each of the tone controls with each other - as I was so used to a graphic type EQ - but to be honest, onceI got the hang of it, it's like having a multiband on 3 knobs. I like a lot! There's a lot of girth in there as well. The power amps are great modules - especially bridged ;O) Finally - cost - well, what a genius move by Hartke - drop a proved industry valve preamp in to a box with a monsterous power section and then make sure it is affordable for everyone. Bass Gear Magazine did a full tech test on an LH head - and the review was really positive. They had the lid open and everything! I love my Hydrive cabs too. I'd missed my previous cabs more than I realised and am finally settled with my rig! I do beleive I am free of GAS!

Tweeters....

Tweeters with a crossover (which can be as simple as a capacitor inline with the tweeter itself) will make no discernable difference to the impedance that the amp 'sees' if you disconnect the tweeter. It is very unlikelt that a tweeter will be running in series with the woofer speakers. This is not a normal method of configuration, thus,by disconnecting the tweeter terminals, will not stop the woofers from working. If you are unsure, refer the work to a qualified individual
7. WOH!!!! That's awesome! I love those curves making the orange gloss look coloured glass! Impressive and very striking.
8.
I thought we were the intelligent counter to the missing link on drums?
mmm-heh heh heh. - and to simplify what the keyboard player is saying to the rest of the band. )
9. I've merged the duplicate thread for you, however it all went a bit wrong as the advert you had edited this evening was the one which *didn't* have all the replies on - so everyone, refer to post TWO in this thread. Apologies - I'll tidy it all up as much as possible! Dood.
10. Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuatiful Shukerness! Congratulations mate! I just read the 'waiting for the courier' thread. I really can't understand how USELESS some delivery types can be!
11. I missed the clinic - Norfolk's stupid road system let me down in rush hour traffic. gutteddan.com
12. I'd dearly love to post music and videos of my band - but alas, at the moment we have none, nowt , nadda, zero, zilch to share! (Yet)
13. Wow! I'm surprised I'm not on there! Pah ha ha ha!! Want a quick lesson in finding a woman's G-Spot? Well, easy really - take your middle finger and take note of the distance from your first knuckle to your finger tip. Holding your hand palm upwards, insert your finger in to your wallet. Now, you're feeling for a ridged area close to the front. That's right, that's the raised text on your credit card. Get used to aiming for this spot and you'll be sure to please everytime lol lol lol lol. I jest of course ;o)
14. Hey Mark! Moved thread as requested!

16. If you can find one, I'd be the first of many to suggest you seek out a Fender 'non-export' CIJ 62 P bass if you are particularly looking to save some pennies! Unfortunately now that Japan has had it's knuckles rapped, it's harder to get hold of new ones - but second hand ones come up on the forum every now and then. Indeed, I have a 70's US Vintage reissue P Bass of the 'non export' variety and it was about 500 quid to import about..well.. 3 years ago now. Big difference in the price of the US sort.
17.
thanks Dood, Actually have two of these (Marshall switches) lying around doing nothing, so will plug that in and check it out. One last thing, If I were to run the 4PRO mono bridged with the appropriate speakon cable, would an Ampeg SVT610hlf be able to handle it solo? I understand this feature is ideally intended to be used with the 810 cab, but just wondering if the 610 would cope well enough power-wise? At the moment I am running it in dual mono with a pair of Ampeg BSE410HLF´s-(one out of poweramp A and one out of B ) and it sounds pretty sweet, but a US built 610 (and road-cased) has popped up nearby and Im just wondering if it would be worth taking the punt? Cheers, Col
Yes, you will be able to run the SVT 4 Pro bridged in to the 610. The bridged power amp, according to the manual is able to drive a 4 Ohm load @ 1200W 'continuous'. In reality, normal bass playing is not able to attain 'continuous' 1200W - The 610 cab will be able to handle 90% of situations - I have to say, having heard the BSE410 and the SVT610 - the 610 seems to sound twice as big, due to that extended bottom end - but - the two 410s are still moving more air, given the extra two speakers. So you could gain with one hand and lose with the other depending on what you want. I have to say, personally I would go for the 610. My mate Stag has one paired with the SVT 5 Pro and it's a beast!
18. FFS! Sad news indeed. RIP.
19. Why do all James Tayor songs sound the same? he he!!! - Yes, he is great and instantly recogniseable - but I watched JT with Carole and then the JT solo thing later on and I think he played the same song with different words ten times!
20.
Quick question with regard to the 4 PRO, what is the best footswitch for it?
IIRC you can 'MUTE' and switch the EQ in and out with the footswich can't you? In that case - pretty much any two button footswitch with a Stereo 6.3mm plug on the end. A Marshall 2 button switch will suffice - infact - on ebay there's a whole bunch of 'clone' switches available that you can get for under a tenner. Looks like this and are wired like this
21. Hi Bo' - I just tried to type a reply to your comment on FB, but the stupid heap of crap didn't save my somewhat long and wordy reply. That has really pissed me off! Anyway - as it happens - most of what I typed has been said already - thus saving me a long retype! What I was going to add on to as well is pretty much what I'd said before about fundamentals with bass. Ok, firstly the port. I can understand why you are tuning to 31hz - however - I think that forcing a port to a particular frequency as 'guess work' is or could be counter to what you actually want to achieve. WINSID can show you graphically what I am trying to explain. (You'll be able to see the frequency curve of the cabinet change as you force the size of the prot to new figures) You'd be better off working out the optimum tuning frequency for the cabinet and speaker combination. I have a good book on it somewhere - but I have forgotten the 'calculations' - thankfully - again WINISD is much easier on the brain and will give you those figures. So, Speakers are not so efficient down on those really low frequency ranges and require a great deal of power to get those notes sounding. (If you can get the fundamentals to sound at all in such a cabinet) You may find that accentuating the overtone frequencies in your EQ and scooping some mids around the 300hz range will give the illusion of depth in the tone. Then, if you really need woofs of bottom end, rely on PA support. I learnt the hard way that I was throwing away lots of Watts of power trying to reproduce fundamentals through cabinets that were just not able to!
22.
French speaking, you say? He's Belgian, but it's sung in French
PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE Tell me this 'song' was recorded AFTER The Damned's 'Jet Boy Jet Girl' and not vice versa. I might shoot myself if Captain and the boys covered Plastic RubberBand or whatever his name is.
23.
He talks like a mad scientist, he stings like a bee! BAREFACED Cabs are licenced and you won't get your tone raped. It's a brilliant new column, fascinating to read, YET I couldn't give a sh*t about what he's talking about, because I use a POD X3 LIVE into the PA. I get all the sounds I love at the touch of a button and let the GLORIOUSLY BASSY PA take care of the rest. And YET, it's probably the best thing I've read in a music magazine, and I want more! Weird huh? Sorry, I just got back from a very good gig to find BGM on the coffee table - glass of wine, a rare smoke and a quick read later, I find I'm feeling really rather exuberant
Hey! I have't read this months BGM with Alex in - but if his column is written with the same interest and technical content that his posts here used to, then I'll defintely checkit out. Does anyone here read Bass Gear Magazine? I LOVE it!! I subscribe to the digital version - thus doing my bit for the environment too!! (Hippy!!) I'm a total gear geek and I love seeing what makes 'things tick'. Bass Gear Magazine take the lids off to see the quality of manufacture, then tests gear to make sure it stands up to what the manufacturers say it should. Tom Bowlus and his crew are absolutley top notch and it'd be great to see someone like Alex exercise a bit of technical know how in Bass Guitar Mag.
24.
Yeah, you know that thing when he says his rack controls the temperature of the sun isn't real, right?
One of my favourite YouTube videos!!
25.
Try and have a go on a Barefaced BigOne (not the compact, thats not the same sort of thing) or an Epifani UL410 (series 1 preferrably). Or if you have the cash a Bergantino IP112 and the extension cab or an IP310, with the right pre can sound HUGE.
The ISP Technologies rig I had, you could say was a mixture of Big One and Berg IP. It could certainly deliver the goods, especially scooping some mids out and cranking it up!
Couldn't agree more with this. We had a rehearsal this morning and the drummer was trying out his new shells (Ludwig Vistalite in blue, for the mono-browed dribblers out there!). After he'd finished masturbating we just locked in together, really tight and the sound/power was immense. Still smiling now!
Woooo!! My ole drummer, Glenn Hughes' Matt Goom (now playing for Raven Vandelle) owns a clear Vistalite kit - I concurr with your views! OMG!! What a kit!! - He also had a Yamaha 'clear' kit as well - and I have to say, those clear shells sound great! ...Hmmm... come to think of it - there's a theme here - my current drummer's kit is a clear Sonor one! - Well... *one* of his kits is! Immense, punchy and tone tone tone!!
Just get a POD X3 Live, programme your bass nightmare and let the PA take care of the rest, man. Backline is so '90s
Yeah, I gotta agree here - the X3 is capable of some really brutal tones, especially as you can mix a deep stereo bass rig with a ..well.. big deep stereo guitar rig! Imagine a big phat bass playing through a massive Hartke stack and a Mesa guitar rig at the same time!! - Slightly off topic - I've just bought a line6 GX as well, to travel light with and POD FARM 2 is just awesome!!!
