1. FFS! Sad news indeed. RIP.
 2. Why do all James Tayor songs sound the same? he he!!! - Yes, he is great and instantly recogniseable - but I watched JT with Carole and then the JT solo thing later on and I think he played the same song with different words ten times!
 3.
Quick question with regard to the 4 PRO, what is the best footswitch for it?
IIRC you can 'MUTE' and switch the EQ in and out with the footswich can't you? In that case - pretty much any two button footswitch with a Stereo 6.3mm plug on the end. A Marshall 2 button switch will suffice - infact - on ebay there's a whole bunch of 'clone' switches available that you can get for under a tenner. Looks like this and are wired like this
 4. Hi Bo' - I just tried to type a reply to your comment on FB, but the stupid heap of crap didn't save my somewhat long and wordy reply. That has really pissed me off! Anyway - as it happens - most of what I typed has been said already - thus saving me a long retype! What I was going to add on to as well is pretty much what I'd said before about fundamentals with bass. Ok, firstly the port. I can understand why you are tuning to 31hz - however - I think that forcing a port to a particular frequency as 'guess work' is or could be counter to what you actually want to achieve. WINSID can show you graphically what I am trying to explain. (You'll be able to see the frequency curve of the cabinet change as you force the size of the prot to new figures) You'd be better off working out the optimum tuning frequency for the cabinet and speaker combination. I have a good book on it somewhere - but I have forgotten the 'calculations' - thankfully - again WINISD is much easier on the brain and will give you those figures. So, Speakers are not so efficient down on those really low frequency ranges and require a great deal of power to get those notes sounding. (If you can get the fundamentals to sound at all in such a cabinet) You may find that accentuating the overtone frequencies in your EQ and scooping some mids around the 300hz range will give the illusion of depth in the tone. Then, if you really need woofs of bottom end, rely on PA support. I learnt the hard way that I was throwing away lots of Watts of power trying to reproduce fundamentals through cabinets that were just not able to!
 5.
French speaking, you say? He's Belgian, but it's sung in French
PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE Tell me this 'song' was recorded AFTER The Damned's 'Jet Boy Jet Girl' and not vice versa. I might shoot myself if Captain and the boys covered Plastic RubberBand or whatever his name is.
 6.
He talks like a mad scientist, he stings like a bee! BAREFACED Cabs are licenced and you won't get your tone raped. It's a brilliant new column, fascinating to read, YET I couldn't give a sh*t about what he's talking about, because I use a POD X3 LIVE into the PA. I get all the sounds I love at the touch of a button and let the GLORIOUSLY BASSY PA take care of the rest. And YET, it's probably the best thing I've read in a music magazine, and I want more! Weird huh? Sorry, I just got back from a very good gig to find BGM on the coffee table - glass of wine, a rare smoke and a quick read later, I find I'm feeling really rather exuberant
Hey! I have't read this months BGM with Alex in - but if his column is written with the same interest and technical content that his posts here used to, then I'll defintely checkit out. Does anyone here read Bass Gear Magazine? I LOVE it!! I subscribe to the digital version - thus doing my bit for the environment too!! (Hippy!!) I'm a total gear geek and I love seeing what makes 'things tick'. Bass Gear Magazine take the lids off to see the quality of manufacture, then tests gear to make sure it stands up to what the manufacturers say it should. Tom Bowlus and his crew are absolutley top notch and it'd be great to see someone like Alex exercise a bit of technical know how in Bass Guitar Mag.
 7.
Yeah, you know that thing when he says his rack controls the temperature of the sun isn't real, right?
One of my favourite YouTube videos!!
 8.
Try and have a go on a Barefaced BigOne (not the compact, thats not the same sort of thing) or an Epifani UL410 (series 1 preferrably). Or if you have the cash a Bergantino IP112 and the extension cab or an IP310, with the right pre can sound HUGE.
The ISP Technologies rig I had, you could say was a mixture of Big One and Berg IP. It could certainly deliver the goods, especially scooping some mids out and cranking it up!
Couldn't agree more with this. We had a rehearsal this morning and the drummer was trying out his new shells (Ludwig Vistalite in blue, for the mono-browed dribblers out there!). After he'd finished masturbating we just locked in together, really tight and the sound/power was immense. Still smiling now!
Woooo!! My ole drummer, Glenn Hughes' Matt Goom (now playing for Raven Vandelle) owns a clear Vistalite kit - I concurr with your views! OMG!! What a kit!! - He also had a Yamaha 'clear' kit as well - and I have to say, those clear shells sound great! ...Hmmm... come to think of it - there's a theme here - my current drummer's kit is a clear Sonor one! - Well... *one* of his kits is! Immense, punchy and tone tone tone!!
Just get a POD X3 Live, programme your bass nightmare and let the PA take care of the rest, man. Backline is so '90s
Yeah, I gotta agree here - the X3 is capable of some really brutal tones, especially as you can mix a deep stereo bass rig with a ..well.. big deep stereo guitar rig! Imagine a big phat bass playing through a massive Hartke stack and a Mesa guitar rig at the same time!! - Slightly off topic - I've just bought a line6 GX as well, to travel light with and POD FARM 2 is just awesome!!!
 9.
Bump for pics of my own making... 650 pounds everybody!! surely its worth it just for Doods seal of approval!
That's cheaper than a Barefaced Big One AND you get a power amp AND you get a preamp AND you get a cover too! (The Barefaced uses the same woofer, for those who are interested)
 10. It isn't 'switchable' and doesn't use an'auto sensing' switch-mode power supply - you'll need to buy a UK version
 11. I love the Chapman Stick and that tone is beautiful! Especially those deep notes! Clean and resonant. The piece is sweet and hypnotic Guido!
 12. Look also at the possibility that the 6.5A fuse in the amp is a 'delay' or 'slow blo' type that is designed to take an initial surge of high current. The 5A fuse in the mains plug is a fast blow type and is probably unable to handle that initial spike. Without a lesson in egg sucking, have you checked the manual for you amplifier and does it suggest the size fuse required? Definitely heed Dave's advice - those 'computer' style IEC leads (yes - some people call them kettle leads..) are rated for 13A. Try one of those with a 13A fuse.. and if you are unlucky and the 6.5A fuse blows - don't just replace it - it's time to get your amp checked over!
 13. Good grief!! Cab, Amp and Studio quality preamp for less than the price of a cabinet! I'm surprised it's still here!
 14.
Personally if I had the extra cash, a Markbass F1 would be in my collection. Very small, very light, and a tight punchy tone.
Yes, definitely +1. By coincidence - I have only just spotted the MB-200 and made a post just a few minutes ago!!! lol
 15. http://www.gallien-krueger.com/products_mb.html Look at this! it's a weeny one!! compared to the MB500:- (Same size as the F1)
 16.
I think it was me who sold it to you on evilbay, and how i regret it. I was desperate to raise some money at the time to buy a new amp, now my band has broke up and i have been searching desperately for another of these units, thats how i noticed this post when i did a google search. I love the fact that the controls are all inside the unit so once you have found a setting you like there is not so much temptation to mess with it. The sheet i sent with it was something the Tech 21 support team sent me when i enquired about a manual for it, i too was puzzeled by the phontom power info, i assumed it was becouse i was not using it with a suitable mixing console. If you ever decide to sell it, please get in touch.
Woh! Small world eh!! a bit OT, but it reminds me of my recent reunion with a digital EQ that I sold on BassChat a loooong time ago! - I couldn't find another for love or money, so on the off chance I posted on BC. Long story short, I bought it back from the chap I sold it to and it's not leaving again! he he! It's brilliant. Anyway, what an intriguing early Sansamp. I actually like the controls being out of the way so they can't be bashed when you have set it up just how you want it! I have a Paradriver and I do knock the controls sometimes!
 17. I am crying from laughter. "Boshhh!" lol
 18. I use - with the really inspired title 'YouTube Downloader HD' lol ;0) it works and you can download to different formats depending on your needs - ie high quality or low file sizes for use on an Ipod etc.
 19. If something is rattling around *inside* the valve then the first port of call will be getting a warranty replacement as it is blatantly faulty. Then if their biasing has broken your amp, then they are liable for sorting that out as well surely?
 20. Glad you are sorted! That's great! I noticed an improvement going from 9 to 18v - but I think it was worthwhile as I am using a preamp as well, so having the extra current is probably a bonus!
 21. Maybe the dust cover is working loose gain - or worse, the cone itself is coming away from voice coil?
 22.
I like this version: Quite like David Gilmour's bass solo.
Just a shame that, as usual the people behind the video editing and camera direction have NO IDEA where the solo is coming from.
 23.
In the first instance, you can buy monorails direct from www.status-graphite.com They're also available at www.ABM-mueller.com & http://www.allparts.com/ABM-Single-String-...bb-3501-010.htm
Beat me to it! The same three I thought of too!
 24. NnnnnnnnngggAaaaaaarghHHHHH !!!!!! How frustrating Pete! Talk about having to prolong the pain! I hope the month of May sales past for you!!!
 25.
dammit - just remembered the 2 blue picks slipped under the scratchplate at Wembley - should have added those in my pic!
Good point! I have blue pics - just not the same ones as JD's
